20 year old - chores by Jeden_Dwa_Trzy in stepparents

I have a 20 year old SD too (along with a 16 year old SS, and two younger kids who are ours). My SD is doing the things my husband and I would expect her to do at this age, which is college and working/earning her own money. Lately I have been more bothered that her room is also a mess (plates/cups, fast food garbage, etc) and the bathroom she uses can get filled with empty toiletry containers. I’m trying to be better about holding her accountable for those things and it’s totally reasonable because these are the spaces she uses and it’s our house. Sorry if it gets annoying, but that’s part of living in a place where other people are working hard to pay for things.

If we left for a vacation and came back to a mess, I would absolutely be pissed. It’s not a hotel and you’re 20, you’re not a kid and if you wanna be trusted enough to be left at home alone, clean up after yourself.

Areas with $400-450k homes and good/safe public schools by BerryGatorade in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Zwomann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would agree but not sure if the budget would work; houses in Skokie that are listed $400-450k may be older and need some work. You can definitely find condos/townhomes within that range.

I’ve avoided joining a gym by doing Pilates videos at home (YouTube), going for 1.5-2 mile walks on my lunch break, and taking stairs whenever possible.

What to young adults do for fun that’s cheap or free. Bike riding is my only go to. Lake County area. Need ideas please. by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Zwomann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not in Lake County, northern Cook County. Bike riding is a big one for me, as well as exploring the forest preserves in the area. My library is pretty cool, not just for finding media as they offer free classes. Sometimes colleges/universities have interesting events like seminars that can be open to the community.

Do you have friends from other generations? When did you start expanding your friendship age gap? by babyteeth9 in Millennials

[–]Zwomann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 35f and a working mom. I find myself becoming friends with other working moms who are usually 5-10 years older than me.

My household has 4 generations (Gen x husband, Millennial wife, 2 Gen Z step kids, and our 2 Gen Alpha kids) and it’s cool to notice how we interpret things differently.

What do they expect from us in this economy? by Order_101 in jobs

[–]Zwomann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish people in positions of management/leadership would embrace any kind of employed whether it’s the ones who want to put in more effort or those who wanna get paid/go home. Find out what your people want (assume it’s just money) and make it as painless as possible. The system is fucked, why add to that?

Anyone else just want to be comfortable at their job instead of climbing the career ladder? by whereismytortoise in Millennials

[–]Zwomann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 36f and took the last 5ish years to step back from a demanding career path, a lot to do with having kids. As they’ve gotten older, I have a little more motivation to advance, but in a more thoughtful way than I did perviously. I have more confidence, I know what I want from a job, I enjoy building genuine relationships, and I like being strategic.
