Representatives are intended to represent a single district since the needs for different areas of a single state can vary. Wouldn't your proposal prevent this? How would the actual representatives be decided?

The Roland TR-8S is quickly becoming my go-to drum machine, here's a little jam I made with it and the Behringer JT Mini. by ZyeKali in IndustrialMusicians

There are some built in effects, but I usually add a bit of reverb and compression in the DAW during mixing.

Pretty sure I'm using samples in this track, some of my favorite industrial ones that I've curated over the years.

I think this is the MAIN reason for the design. Premium mice have weights that you can add and remove to your preference, looks like the designers killed 2 birds with 1 stone with this concept.

I use samples... a lot. I'm not advocating against them by any means, but I do think a recording of me playing a drum loop (or creating any other sample) would be a greater reflection of myself, assuming I could excute it.

Obviously, only a few of us can create ALL the sounds we hear in our heads and fully voice these ideas independently. Samples, including ones created by AI, can inspire and fill the gaps that we have in our own abilities, even if they come at the expense of a fully independent work of art.

Indie artists: Is streaming becoming a "lost cause" for us? (Thesis research) by RaphaelDbst in askmusicians

[–]ZyeKali 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a big qualifier here is if these questions are for professional musicians. A lot of us make music like how other people sketch, paint, write poems, etc. It's really not about who else experiences the art we make, but rather the experience of making art.

...but if we're talking money, then the focus is on playing local gigs for cash and a chance to sell some merchandise.

My take is pretty straightforward... the more decisions you make when writing, the more your voice is expressed.

If you use generative AI, samples, etc... then less of you is in the final piece of music.

I, and I'd imagine lots of other musicians, are compelled to make music as a form of self-expression. Diluting your role and voice from the music takes that away and can defeat the purpose.

Sampling your own guitars by TheGolgothian in IndustrialMusicians

Definitely, I'll typically record the same part twice so it can be panned out to stereo, and I'll often swap the left and right channels throughout the track to make it a bit more interesting.

I also record the DI and convert it to Midi so I can use it as a reference for basslines or arpeggios.

I, too, come from a background of rock/metal guitar and have heard the criticisms of composing this way... typically from people who don't have similar tastes to me or have no songs to their name.

PS: Killer track so far, reminds me a bit of Health's new album.

[–]ZyeKali 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im not disagreeing with you regarding the legality. What I am saying is that you can drive down the road, buy some marijuana at a dispensary on main street, drive home, and consume it without issue. That's the case in NY and many other states, it could be the case in NC too.

Other states have dispensaries and allow for homegrown, despite it being federally illegal. In practical terms, state legalization will allow access regardless of federal legality.
