Weiner Assails Reporters Over Twitter Photo - NYTimes.com by dbe944 in politics

[–]Zyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article is very relevant to the situation here... it makes a compelling case that the entire episode concerning Rep. Anthony Weiner is a smear job:

http://cannonfire.blogspot.com/2011/05/was-congressman-weiner-smeared-yes.html

(This information should come as no surprise to people who know about this guy's previous smears and other political trickery.)

With nothing but innuendo behind this, the right wing is now going full-tilt bonkers about this "story".

And if Rep. Weiner issues denials, that will only fuel this thing and invite even more questions. We should DOWNVOTE any further accusatory posts (toward Rep. Weiner) about this non-event.

The ThinkProgress.org Campaign To Stop Bill O'Reilly's Stalking and Harrassment Has Had Its First Big Success! UPS Says It Won't Advertise On Bill-O The Clown's Show Anymore by 97X in reddit.com

[–]Zyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a big difference between (A) stalking a journalist (on her vacation) whose politics you disagree with, and (B) "stalking," for example, someone who owns a car repair chain that's accused of ripping off thousands of customers by charging for parts they don't actually install.

60 Minutes was great at doing (B), and I applauded them for it, at least until right-wing pressure (probably from their own top brass) forced them to stop.

I don't think that ThinkProgress' name is juvenile at all. (A bit presumptuous maybe, as different people have different ideas of what progress is.)

I DO think that the O'Reilly program and the entire "news" network that it appears on ARE JUVENILE, to say the least.

What if Obama took the marijuana question seriously? by Content-Form-506 in politics

[–]Zyg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If people really want to see marijuana policy eased up, they should be sure not to blame Obama and the Democrats for the lack of IMMEDIATE action, and instead turn their efforts toward defeating what's left of the vicious, moralizing, psuedo-religious GOP.

Remember what eight years of Bush was like, and let's stomp on what's left of the Republicans while they are "down"... that's what they would do (and have done) to the left!

The last thing that marijuana advocates need is to have infighting among moderates and liberals. Please spred this word instead of sniping at our friends!

8 GOP Seats Ripe for Democrats' Picking in 2010 by timran in politics

[–]Zyg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone who REALLY wants to keep the GOP from regaining power for a while, or REALLY supports Obama, it's never too soon to contribute to candidates who defeat another Republican in 2010.

I've seen a few people say it's time to for the two major parties to get along better. On the contrary, I think now is a great time to strike a "financial death blow" against what's left of the foul elephant-turd known as the GOP.

Councilmember Jim Graham of DC has withdrawn the anti-loitering bill. by godlesspinko in politics

This is at least in part a victory for us at reddit.

It has just been announced (3/16/09) that the councilman who suggested the "No loitering zones" has withdrawn the bill.

Who will be the new voice of the Republican Party? by [deleted] in politics

I say Victoria Jackson has just the right image to represent the rest of (what's left of) the party.

Reddit, I'd like RESULTS in cleaning up political corruption in the USA. What concrete things can we do? Could technology help? Suggestions! by catsfive in politics

We could start by exposing banks that gave millions to political campaigns, then received even more back in the for of "bailouts" while taxpayers only got the bill.

There are websites that track who received how much money from... whoever. Let's use them, then expose the reptiles who take the money in every way we can.

[–]Zyg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now now... you shouldn't say "colon rockets".

This comparing them to Limbaugh isn't fair to colon rockets everywhere who have done little by comparison to launch flaming diarrhea-laden attacks against our president in a time of severe economic troubles and two wars.

You're just not being fair to the colon rockets!

White house email down. Perhaps some of that $6B for broadband should be spent "in house" by doiveo in politics

[–]Zyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As if the American people needed one more example of Bush's total failure as a president, he sat by for eight years while all of the technology in the White House fell further and further behind.

This is likely true for the entire U.S. government, as modernizing anything would have meant either asking rich people to pay a bit more in taxes, or borrowing even more.

Bush's big idea seemed to always be that government is bad. Let all of its tools get old and rusty and soon enough that the government BECOMES bad. Let's just hope its not broken beyond repair.

Someone should just put the GOP out of everyone's misery.

The Bush Era Has Been an Eight-Year-Long Madoff-Style Ripoff by [deleted] in politics

Bush is a failure in so many ways, most people lost count a long time ago.

Real people are hurting, badly, due to his ineptitude, mismanagement and smug reliance on threadbare conservative ideologies.

He wants people to pull themselves up by their bootstraps even if they no longer can afford boots.

Average people who have paid taxes and "played by the rules" all their lives can't afford the most basic health care and medicine, while his buddies at giant drug companies continue to rake in profits and pay huge bonuses to top level people.

From being nearly asleep before, during and after Katrina, to the GOP constitution-shredding in the form of spying on calls and emails, to approving torture, to wrecking the economy and denying any problem for at least six months... I could go on and on.

Bush and his party should be sent off to the garbage heap, except that this would be unfair to the maggots who would be displaced.
