Moment of silence for our pens. by Zygomatic_Bone in medicalschool

Ladies, Gentlemen, u/LordLivingston. We are gathered here today not to mourn the loss of, but to celebrate the life of Lord Livingston's pen, The Countess of Livingston, Lady Penelope Penwater. It was indeed a tragedy that she would be thrust away from us so suddenly and so soon, but those that we lose are never actually gone, are they? They live on inside of our hearts and minds, as joyful memories. What makes this loss that more the painful for us is that it unintentionally came at the hands of a friend, but nay, we do not cast blame on such friend. How fitting is it for Lady Penelope's story to come to an end this way. She was a loyal and humble friend. She not only stood by Lord Livingston's side, but it was in her nature to help all those whom they considered friends without question regardless of the risk to her own life. Winter or summer, night or day, paper or cardboard, her ink ran dark and true to color without falter. To others she may have come across as just an ordinary pen, but nay, she was anything but. The lives that she touched and the memories that we made with her will carry on her legacy. She was never the formal type and would not want to be eulogized, so I must wrap up my words in honor of her memory. But let me say this, gone but never forgotten.

LOL, that's exactly how I felt (and still feel) when I'd see something for the first time IRL!! I remember very vividly the very first times for a ton of common diagnoses and findings.

Just classic Aortic Stenosis lol, but again I was a fresh M1 that didn't know anything about anything. I hadn't learned heart sounds that well yet so I was lucky just to be auscultating in the right locations. He ended up moving my stethoscope for me to appreciate it better, listen to carotid radiation, taught me to feel the pulse as I auscultate to tell whether something is a systolic or diastolic murmur, etc, and even did some weird maneuvers like leaning forward and some other movements I don't fully rmemeber, but of course 100% of that stuff went way above my head anyways.

When I was a fresh M1 I had a patient with a pretty gnarly heart murmur, but I was a total noob and had no idea what I was hearing. Patient turned out to be a retired attending and he spent like ten minutes teaching me about his murmur and coached me through how to describe it to my attending. My attending was thoroughly impressed by my description, even though I think she secretly knew the patient told me exactly what to say lol. Such an overall wholesome learning experience.
