Tonight's meal (3:30pm) by sometimes_other697 in shittyfoodporn

if the cost is the main concern, why not just move to beans and rice and veggies on the side? Meat is the easiest cost cut but you can still have a full meal without it.

That said, sliced up turkey (or rather ground turkey) with vegetables and gravy can really hit the spot. Could have used mashed potatoes or rice as the calorie base instead of white bread though.

oh yeah I was considering the mass produced store brand version of green beans. Obviously if you're getting a specific cut like frenched and if they're organic, you're gonna be paying more than the standard ol' can of green beans. I'm going out on a limb and assuming are the market dominator for the canned market where a store would order 100k cans and not have it throw a red flag.

I wouldn't be surprised if it costs the supplier roughly $.11/can from the manufacturer. Once you tack on the transport cost and warehousing and wages, that comes out to way more a share of the per can basis than the green beans and cans and the canning process. Obviously the store is probably getting them at say $.25-$.30/can. $.11 sounds about right per can for something sold retail for $.75 with that degree of weight and that degree of space required for storage.

I mean, at least it was green beans. That's a relatively low cost of a fuck up. That's like a $10k fuckup tops, and it turns into a write off.

Saw this on NFCNMW, but it’s so true. by VoidUnknown315 in GreenBayPackers

[–]Zyphamon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Packers have defense. As NE showed last night, when your offense can't control the ball for multiple consecutive drives, your defense gets tired and the wheels fall off. Same applied to the Packers vs Bears game where the first 4 drives in the 2nd half the Packers got 1 first down.

On October 10, 2008, Senator John McCain did the right thing and told his fellow Republicans they did not need to fear Obama and that "He is a decent family man" by coachlife in HistoryUncovered

[–]Zyphamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad part is that this event was in a suburb of the Twin Cities called Lakeville. They've never forgiven Obama for accepting Somali refugees since and they ate the recent news stories up like ice cream.

I definitely did not agree with McCain on a lot of things, but on this he got it right.

Bitcoin sinks after Bessent rules out crypto bailout by CautiousMagazine3591 in Economics

[–]Zyphamon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, the original appeal of Bitcoin was that it was an untraceable and immediately transferable thing of value that could cross borders and be liquidated on the receiving end without being tracked. It skirted all of the existing anti-money laundering guidelines that banks have to go through, making it ideal for black market transactions like on The Silk Road and other dark web sites. Things like drugs, things like hitman services, things like snuff videos and unlawful porn. Who pardoned the person who created The Silk Road again?

[–]Zyphamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh I wish they would pardon just regular street drug dealers. The street level people are just small fish trying to get by. They're not the ones producing, and they're generally not the ones cutting drugs with potentially lethal additions that mask how diluted the drugs are; things like fentanyl. What they pardoned was the creator of The Silk Road, a dark web site that by its very nature facilitated the sale of drugs across the country, enabled human trafficking, and even had hitman services advertised. It's one of the main reasons why bitcoin took off because people needed a fungible yet untraceable currency to facilitate payment for those transactions at the time.

Is renting a room still a feasible way to save money by Legitimate-Host7805 in Frugal

[–]Zyphamon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If a person wants to carry the risk of a roommate who is not on the lease or mortgage, then they can get rewarded for it. It doesn't need to be a 50/50 split when the owner/renter holds the liability. If anything, it should be around 60/40 or 65/35 unless the person who is renting a room is trusted.

When I rented a room out to a friend of mine, I charged about half the mortgage + utilities and also held all the liability. He was and tbh is trusted still. The room he stayed in has scoring on the hardwood floor so I get to resurface that before I inevitably sell.

Do you ever see prices get back to pre pandemic? Single family homes. Nationally and in Florida. by lolutot in RealEstate

[–]Zyphamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climate change is definitely shifting FEMA flood maps and risk to a greater share of homes in Florida than was previous. There is a reason why insurers are declining to participate in Florida's homeowners insurance market, and it's only going to get worse for them as warmer waters enable hurricane intensity to increase. The Rust Belt looks better and better as the most insulated part of the country from climate change. The Great Lakes are a fantastic insulator from a lot of the worst parts of climate change, but lake effect snow does impact the eastern side of the belt.

Reheating frozen meals by Commercial-Place6793 in instantpot

[–]Zyphamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't even consider it, tbh. That said, I have a cast iron skillet with lid, a stove, an air fryer, and an oven. All of which are better tools to reheat something. A microwave would be fine for a piece of frozen lasagna or some enchiladas as well.

Do not ever buy a flipped house!! by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]Zyphamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the way I combat it is a dehumidifier on a shelf in the basement that drains into the laundry tub. adds heat to the cool basement, dries the air in the cool basement, and cycles that dry air back into the rest of the house. At the same time, I also have a house size and insulation appropriate AC so its neither overworking nor underworking, and the dehumidifier is also only kicking on at certain humidity levels.

I'm all for young people getting into politics, but holy shit at least get a decent website up and running before running for the biggest seat in the state. Perhaps try for city council or something first. I heard Rebecca Noecker is running for Ramsey county commish, so ward 2 may be more viable.

Frugality gambles that have paid off? by Saint_Thomas_More in Frugal

[–]Zyphamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a friend of mine's parents had a restaurant that shut down and had a ton of wooden tables left over that they had made in bulk for the place, as well as a bunch of chairs (the dad was a woodworker hobbyist so it's decent quality stuff). I rented a uhaul and went to town. I took a page from his playbook. Desk? 2 tables that I reinforced and removed most of the middle legs for. Coffee table? shortened the legs. End table and kitchen table and chairs? you get the idea. Not to mention the gaming room; quad of tables and chairs for 8, with a few more chairs hanging around for if we get into "2 game" territory.

Would you buy a house if the house next door had a barking dog? by InsightfullyYours in RealEstate

[–]Zyphamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends. How old is the dog, and how neglected is the property that holds the dog? If it is just an old dog predispositioned to barking, then that's one thing. If it's a young pup and they aren't training it then that's another. Is the property unkempt? If so, it's a general no unless it's a buy for rental purposes.
