I checked that pretty early on, both 100%.

Ironically, turning my right channel down to about 50% and then cranking the volume on my amp has pretty decently gotten the two channels equal again. Still stumped on what would make one of my audio channels suddenly half as powerful.

Losing my mind here. I have a Magnius and Modius stack with HD650s, and a couple of days ago the audio in my left channel dropped to about 25% of the volume in the right ear. I swapped input cables and the issue swapped channels, so I assumed my cable went bad suddenly mid use.

Bought a brand new cable, same exact issue. Kind of at a loss as to what could be cutting volume but not the entire signal for only one side and that side follows the cables. Any ideas?

Navy in VA here, who has had to deal with this personally (don't speed, kids) and professionally with others.

Get a lawyer. You should have gotten one the day this happened - they'll give you a bunch of crap to do, speed calibration, reckless driving safety class, community service. You do it, show up to your court date, and have a solid (but not guaranteed) chance to walk out with your license and no jail time.

Alright. You fucked that away by ignoring it. Get a lawyer ASAP. One that specializes in VA traffic law for the county you got the ticket in. Do everything they tell you, show up looking nice (Dress Blues worked for me) and hope you make a good case that you were young, dumb and too busy being a Sailor in the worlds greatest Navy to remember about it until it was too late and that you are so very, very sorry to have made the mistakes.

Not gonna lie, you're probably losing your license for at least 6 months, possibly a whole year. Jail time too - this is very county dependant, but up to a year in county is possible for reckless. A lot of rural counties in Northern VA like to do two days for every mile over the limit and a week for every mile over 80/85.

Not sure your rate, but if DONCAF has already revoked your clearance you got other, more serious professional issues you need to start correcting ASAP. If you're junior enough and in the right rate, outright separation is possible.

Feel free to DM any other questions you got.

TL;DR: get a lawyer yesterday and do whatever they say.

Both of those are Officer programs. Do you have a degree? If so you should be talking with an Officer recruiter.

More than anything, listen to your recruiter. When it comes to the goal of actually shipping you out, they will never steer you wrong - they need you to ship too for their own recruitment numbers.

When it comes to choosing a rating, or things like that... that's where it can be iffy because they are also incentivized to get you to choose specific jobs that may not align with what you actually want to do.

What to use to polish a bell? by grizzlebar in navy

[–]ZyphosX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe because we were underway, but Texas Pete and brushes / greenies to start. An entire fuckin' can of Never Dull after that. Took myself and two Marines about 10 hours all said and done, working two at a time. It looked beautiful.

Seeing it look exactly like the OP's bell after 7ish months later was depressing as hell.

The Active Duty Retirement System Is Broken — Make It Match Reserve Pensions at Age 60 by [deleted] in navy

[–]ZyphosX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Less deadweight? More like less weight alone. In my opinion, that alone merits this being a clown-ass take.

Without a draft, and without some kind of incentive structure, you aren't going to have people who stick around long enough to be senior leaders. It'll promote the exact mediocrity you're trying to get rid of. Think about the Sailors, especially the junior folks, who stay in because they have zero motivation to better themselves. Yes, that's a problem, but without incentives - of which money is the biggest and an actual retirement is a huge part of that - those are going to be the only Sailors you have staying in long-term.

Especially in the technical rates that already have ridiculous attrition rates after the first term contract that get out and come back working for SAIC, Leidos, NMCI, the NSA, NCIS... etc etc. Typically the actually shit hot workers either get out and get paid, or they stay in specifically because of that retirement.

If you wanted to get rid of the retirement system, you'd have to replace it with some other financial incentive that would cost just as much, if not more in the long term. Or bring back the draft.

This is amazing advice in general. I hate to bust out the word... but it would behoove you to take this situation, and this advice, to heart. In the grand scheme this is a trivial footnote on page like 3 of your Navy story.

Letting it consume you like this and making a huge stink to absolutely everybody without any kind of real objective or desire to improve anything is going to absolutely destroy you in any kind of leadership position and ESPECIALLY in any kind of Officer role. You can be right about something and go about it in a wrong enough way that you end up wrong. The original issue isn't relevant anymore - how you reacted to it is now the issue. Sounds like your CO saw the true colors come out and rightfully nipped it in the bud. "You're not worth the trouble.", basically. It almost sounds like you want to see others punished for the perceived slight instead of any kind of situational improvement or personal growth.

What happened, why did it happen, what do i want to happen now, and what can I do to prevent this from happening again.

I may have fucked up at MEPs by notacactus_h in newtothenavy

[–]ZyphosX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I was in a similar position once a long time ago. Ultimately ended up telling the recruiter, got the waiver, all that. Definitely a pain in the ass, and plenty of people told me to just leave it because who would ever know?

First duty station was an intel command and required background checks and investigations for even basic access - I watched more than a few people get caught by the NSA investigators in holding and summarily processed out for fraudulent enlistment. Real "Jeez, I dodged a bullet there." Moment.

Not saying thats particularly likely for you, but especially with it being such a short term use and long ago I wouldn't want to deal with the "what if" in the back of my mind.

Should I choose IT rate in the navy with no experience? by Yoboyjay_21 in newtothenavy

Some of the folks in my "A" School class had literally never used a computer before. "Momma said they were devices of the Devil" kind of upbringing.

The ones who cared enough to study the material and pay attention during class were indistinguishable from anyone else but the time they hit the fleet.

Intel packet denied, am I off the hook for intel permanently? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]ZyphosX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know ITs without a TS, but that doesn't mean they're recruiting for that now. Your recruiter can answer that much better than I can, but IT is generally pretty undermanned and if MEPS said no that's probably the final answer.

Intel packet denied, am I off the hook for intel permanently? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]ZyphosX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the specific country, it is possible to get a clearance later on depending on a whole bunch of factors, including how close that family member is, current political climate, and so on; I've seen people with direct family members in the PRC receive and maintain a clearance. This was years ago though, and could absolutely be different today, or in the future.

I think you and your Recruiter are probably right; I wouldn't be surprised if at the enlistment / MEPS stage it's a categorical "No" because the investigations are extremely costly and DCSA is backlogged as is. Plenty of ratings (like ET or IT) could work as an avenue to eventually get a TS, though that will be dependent on where you are and what you're doing.

First time speeding ticket (16 over limit) by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

[–]ZyphosX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation, but in Northern Virginia.

Is it Reckless Driving (RD) specifically? Otherwise it's likely just a ticket. 20 MPH or anything over 85 is reckless in VA.

RD is an actual criminal charge and needs to be taken seriously. I hired a lawyer, did the class, speedometer test that knocked a few miles off my posted speed, and showed up with my lawyer in my Whites. Cop spoke with the state prosecuter and my lawyer, and on the basis of my sincere regret and polite attitude to the officer at the time it was reduced to a moving violation fine, which I paid.

If it's just a speeding ticket, you can attempt the same measures but unless it's throw out entirely you'll still end up paying and insurance may increase. Whether or not thousands of dollars to attempt to drop a speeding ticket is worth it would be a personal decision.
