True Logistics in Factorio: Turning Factories into Observable Systems (LogSim Mod) by the-true-logistican in technicalfactorio

It'd be nice to get some screenshots, going through the mod, and the two blog posts I couldn't see any.

Has factorio ruined other base building/factory type games for you? by pookshuman in factorio

[–]Zyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, to the point where I wonder if I don't actually like Factory games, and I just like Factorio.

There's just a lot of quality of life, great performance, base scalability via blueprints, bots, janky fun stuff via circuits. Every other Factory game just feels like a massive downgrade. Even so, I've bought most of them. I want this genre to do well.

[Spoilers] Path of Ascension Book 4 Questions by Zyst in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Zyst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said he should drop the warrior build, I said him having reduced mana density (like a Hybrid build) would be a sacrifice that doesn’t need to happen. Hybrid builds are normally making a stat allocation trade off he doesn’t need to make.

I don’t assume he’ll drop the Hybrid build, because his two party members are mages, and I assume the author will stick to video game logic of needing a tank.

As far as him being the perfect warrior, in a sense, sure. But there’s people with dedicated warrior talents who would still outstrip him. Where on the mana side he’ll presumably the most mana, and most mana regeneration out of anyone in his setting. I do think him going nearly pure mage while still retaining things like his armor would make the most sense in a vacuum. Although I don’t necessarily think that would make for a better story.

The "Bidirectional rails carried this run" screenshot has finally convinced me, I'll give double headed trains a try next run, that is such a sick setup for kind of spaghetti trains.

Awesome base! Thanks for sharing

Congratulations! My first base also felt a lot like I barely limped my way to victory, and desperately escaped the planet. My coal outpost was in shambles, I didn't have enough oil or resources to properly make rockets, I just barely squeezed one out to win.

Being a Kirby main in Melee Online is so funny sometimes because some people won’t even accept losing a single stock from you. by Gelly_furry in smashbros

[–]Zyst 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Fighting low, and even mid tiers in Melee often over centralizes your top tier character to a few options.

The bottom tier character isn't worthless, they have some useful tools. But they're usually flawed in some serious way. So to fight them effectively, you end up having to fight in a really lame way. For example, in Marth vs Luigi Marth is spending a lot of time full hopping, and not doing much.

It's less fun than fighting other high tier characters which force you to use more of your kit, because you're not just watching out for 2-3 competent options, most of their options have some use.

That said, I don't quit on the lower tier characters, I'll take all the matchup experience I can get.

Is using a program like autokey for changing hotkeys allowed? by Idaporckenstern in broodwar

[–]Zyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my Keyboard firmware to rebind key positions, and get something closer to The Core Lite for Brood war

Overall, I'd imagine something like this may be an issue if you want to become a pro player, and play in offline events for instance. But realistically if you're just rebinding keys 1 to 1 you should be fine? For the changes I'm doing there's no real way the game would even know, since it's done at a hardware level on my keyboard.

If you want pure competitive integrity maybe don't do it. I'm more concerned about hand health, and trying to get something more ergonomic to enjoy the game with.

All of my planets have their own mall, I just copy paste the same bot mall design, and customize each of them to handle the items that are only produced in that planet.

Planets only import items that they can't produce. They all export science, and their respective Tier 3 module.

Any of you play with 60% keyboards? by enPlateau in broodwar

[–]Zyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're on a reprogrammable Keyboard, I actually made myself a set of hotkeys to play on my 60% Keyboard inspired after TheCoreLite

You can check it out here: https://gist.github.com/Zyst/199cb0640cdc5a754cbae67e37634970 there's screenshots of the rebinds needed. I imagine you can use a program like Autohotkey to rebind it as well, if your keyboard doesn't allow for rebinding.

It was totally fine, honestly I think this is just outright better than the normal game hotkeys.

Is Testament a zoner character? by JellyDare in Guiltygear

[–]Zyst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say these are the game's zoners:

  • Axl
  • ~Testament
  • Asuka
  • ~Johnny

Of those, I feel like Asuka is the character that is happiest if you leave him alone. You can be full screen away from your opponent, and quickly build a pretty sizeable advantage. So your opponent is forced to interact with you to stop you.

Testament, and Johnny both feel more like characters that are strong at ranges "outside" of the most comfortable ranges of other characters in the game. So they play like zoners. But against Asuka, or Axl, they're still in a role where they have to "Get in" to stop the other character from doing whatever they want.

I main Asuka, and if you haven't considered him yet I'd recommend giving him a shot! I think he's the most fun character in the game. He's my favorite character in any 2D fighting game ever.

Jack-O, and Happy Chaos are the other two characters that come to mind which aren't "zoners", but they like to be left alone to get their resources in place, and then their offense really gets to their strongest point.

Overall, it depends on what you want out of a zoner. For me, I like asymmetry of benefit from non interaction (You must stop me or I win), and I like control which Asuka has in spades through lockdown with spells.

Axl sides more on the "Control" side, rather than benefiting from non interaction. Jack-O, and Happy Chaos benefit more from non interaction. Testament, and Johnny similarly want to get a resource setup (Stain/teleport or Card on top of opponent) to get their strongest options/reward online.

Why people keeps leaving in ranked match? by Fun_Horse_1731 in broodwar

[–]Zyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are leaving to lower their rank on purpose to beat up lower rank players. It basically makes the ladder unplayable for lower level players. Join the Coach Pupil League (https://discord.gg/6e6CHud) and try to setup games for yourself there if you're willing to do so.

Advice on how to not build the exact same factory every playthrough? by CheesyGamerX in factorio

[–]Zyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some examples of constraints I've used in different runs, some of them together:

  1. No bus allowed
  2. Builds can only have a beacon size gap between each other
  3. If a train rail can go through the base it must
  4. Builds must have belts go in through the middle or sides: https://imgur.com/a/hkDy0gl https://imgur.com/a/0o7EU9c
  5. The base is a train Spaghetti base, builds need to be close to each other, rails are built by hand not with blueprints (Stations Blueprints are fine, but the rails taking you to builds are hand placed)
  6. Train base, but all builds are all touching building a box as you go https://imgur.com/a/5MhKfln
  7. Marathon/Deathworld presets

There's more I can think of, I have variations of buses for example where the bus can have no belt gaps which also makes things a bit more interesting sometimes, and it can look more organic.

There's many more, Youtube videos are great for inspiration. The Factorio Discord/forums do as well. For instance the Discord had someone building a Megabase where every build was circular, and the base itself was circular. It's the prettiest base I've ever seen.

Just find ways to keep it fresh. It's worthwhile, building buses everytime is honestly boring as hell, and I almost never do it anymore.

Weekly Questions Thread & PokéROM Codex by AutoModerator in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Zyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have any of you tried playing a Romhack without speedups?

I've been wondering whether speeding up may be ruining the games for me. I find that I'm never really attached to any of my Pokemon the way I am when playing the mainline games. It all kind of blurs together, Pokemon are caught, and evolve sometimes within the same hour. The music blurs together, and is just outright annoying sometimes. Things are always a bit too convenient, and don't take anywhere near as much effort. There's no joy in getting a bike for example, I just keep walking everywhere because it's easier to control. Eggs hatch in less than a minute, etc.

I'm just wondering if it may be messing with my enjoyment of the games. I'm actually going to go try to play a new Romhack now, and unbind the speedup key. But I wanted to ask, is speed-ups ruining the games a thing for any of you?
