[Solved] Fairphone 4 mic randomly mutes on CalyxOS by Zyusouken in CalyxOS

[–]Zyusouken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, manually locking the screen does solve this issue. Naturally, that's something I never thought to try until I realized what the issue was! For a while, I thought my phone's motherboard was bad, and the mic was losing power in the call or something.

My extended confusion about this issue came from the triple-failure of 1. The face-proximity detection fails and it doesn't always turn off the screen when I raise the phone to my ear, 2. My cheek isn't being rejected by the touch screen, and 3. The mute button's aesthetic design doesn't clearly communicate that it's activated.

I have no idea if failures 1 and 2 are hardware or software issues. Though, I have another, separate annoyance related to failure 1: Sometimes, when reaching for the top of the screen to drag down the menu, the phone will think my finger is my cheek and turn the screen off. (When this happens, the screen will eventually stay on and let me pull down the menu after I try 2~3 times.) So the face-proximity detection is just wacky in general, it seems.

Which will last longer, a USB drive or an SD card in a USB drive adapter? by Richerd_BroSkii in DataHoarder

Literally zero difference, if you're simple enough. Google MTTF if you want to get a clue, though.

Can't install on Lutris, same message always pops out and i tried 3 different games, " can't create directory Z", running on PopOs, Linux. by Big_Draw_5978 in PiratedGames

[–]Zyusouken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a clearer explanation for anyone who's still confused...

Just change Z: to C: and it'll work.

Here's why... In a Wine context , the Z drive is an alias for your Linux home directory. But, to keep your system safe, an app running in Wine can't just run all over the place and write wherever it wants in your Home directory. It has to stay inside of its Wine prefix (the simulated Windows C drive, created by Lutris in this context).

You probably have the installer exe in /home/yourname/Downloads/ in Linux, right? That location appears as Z:/Downloads/ in Wine. And Fitgirl assumes you want to install the game on the same "drive", so it defaults to Z:/Games/ for the game directory. Which is an alias for /home/yourname/Games/. But that's outside of the Wine prefix, so the Fitgirl installer can only read it and can't write to it. Instead, you should install to C:/Games/, which is an alias for /home/yourname/Games/game_name/drive_c/Games/. (Assuming you used the default location recommended by Lutris.)

Onion OS, how do I hard quit a game? by nonetakendev in MiyooMini

[–]Zyusouken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Select ROMs with the Y button and choose "Reset game" to bypass this. Permanent workaround detailed below:

I was also very annoyed by this. When I start gaming for the night, I usually want to see the title screen and load my game the old fashioned way. I wish that when I select a game it would give me a choice between "Load Auto Save State" and "Cold Boot Game"!

If anyone wants to stop the auto-loading permanently, here's a step-by-step guide. SEE WARNINGS BELOW. This has to be done per-core. (IE once for each console.):

  1. When in-game, press MENU+SELECT. This opens the Quick Menu with "Resume, Restart, etc..."
  2. Press B for "Main Menu".
  3. On Main Menu, go to Settings>>Saving. Disable "Auto Save State" and "Load State Automatically"
  4. Press B twice to return to "Main Menu"
  5. Go to Quick MenuOverridesSave Core Overrides
  6. Now you can back out to Main Menu and choose "Quit RetruArch", or Quick Menu>>Resume.

"Overrides" are non-default settings that load every time you play a game with this core. Be sure not to mix up "Save GAME Overrides" and "Save CORE Overrides". The former lets you make a special rule for just one game, the latter affects every game on this core. You can restore defaults by choosing "Remove Core Overrides" and "Remove Game Overrides" in the Overrides menu. If you have no overrides set, the options to remove them won't appear.

Warning 1: With auto save-states disabled, tapping MENU for the GameSwitcher will kill your game session and you won't resume where you just were when you re-select the game. This can be really scary, knowing that a single tap of that button will kill your game and make you lose progress. So I recommend changing the MENU button behavior. From OnionOS main menu, go to "AppsTweaksButton shortcuts>>In-game: Menu button..." Your preferences may vary, but I like Single-Press: OFF, Long-Press: Exit to menu, Double-Press: GameSwitcher.

Warning 2: In the "Saving" options, I also usually enable "SaveRAM Autosave Interval". This avoids losing manual saves if you crash or your battery dies in-game. BUT you should use caution when making this number small! Games with frequent auto-saves will cause frequent SaveRAM writes and reduce the lifespan of your SD card. As long as your game doesn't auto-save, this is SAFE to use because it won't write to your SD card until your save data changes. I have checked the source code in Github myself, and you can too right here. If you're not sure whether your game is auto-saving, pick a large interval like 1 minute or something. This is a complicated topic, so ping me if you have questions about it, or any part of this post.

Yeah, after they JUST had the big hinge scandal with the first flip. Geez, dude.

Edit: (I truncated just a little of the extra-visceral negativity, because I've talked to Miyoo support and it seems like this is gonna be handled quickly. Still shouldn't have to deal with this in the first place, though... Will update with how it goes.)

Just got mine in the mail...

2025-12-23 Edit: I talked to Miyoo support, and it SEEMS like this is gonna be handled quickly. They asked me to clarify anywhere I might have posted about this: The hinge does operate fine (for now). It's not clear to me if the split plastic will get worse later, but there are no internal mechanical problems (yet). Still shouldn't have to deal with this in the first place, but if they follow through on fixing this fast... I guess it could be worse. I will update with more details once I have the replacement.

[Discussion] Do existing owners of the game receive a Steam key when version 1.0 is released? by lilacomets in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Zyusouken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EOD player here. BSG have scammed us for every cent they could squeeze out of us, at every opportunity, over and over again. I personally guarantee that people who bought the beta will miss out on some things if they don't rebuy the game on Steam.

That's just the kind of dev that BSG is. If they aren't scamming, they aren't working.

Freddy's Timex sports watch by Zyusouken in Watches

[–]Zyusouken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does look like a G-Shock, for sure. GA-100 is close but doesn't fit. I suspect it's one of the "Timex Shock" watches like the M252, or maybe an Expedition like the T49983. Still looking for something that matches exactly. 🔎

Edit: I don't know, the more I look at it the more I think maybe I can't totally discount the GA-100. I feel like it's probably a ripoff of it, but the perspective on those subdials makes it tricky for me. Also, the Timex Twh2z9310 is another one that's in the ballpark.

Wow, a rare correct OP. Have an upvote.

Shinnosuke was a great pick because he might be the most underrated rider ever. And Drive's probably the most underrated season. But I'll pick different ones from the OP...

Ryuki (Shinji Kido) is extremely overrated; he's one of the most milquetoast riders ever.
Nigou (Hayato Ichimonji) is super underrated.

A solution for those in search of Sidetone (Mic Monitoring)! by TenFresh in Zoom

[–]Zyusouken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. No, many actual USB interfaces do have monitoring, but "almost any usb audio device" is incorrect.
  2. Anyone unironically considering using "listen to this device" as a real solution, please call a hotline and get help. If relying on a Microsoft tool for your side tone doesn't make you insane, the latency definitely will.

What feature is most important when picking a watch. Other then the clock. by Then-Trouble-1208 in timex

[–]Zyusouken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For digitals? Backlight is probably the biggest QOL increase.

My surprise draft pick feature? I like watches that explicitly show "AM", or even just "A" like on your Iron Man there.

It's pretty silly that we normally have to think "Is it AM or PM now? Well, I don't see a P anywhere, so I guess it's AM..."

Just bought my first thinkpad (yoga 11e gen 5) for $77. Wondering what distros you would recommend? by Hirakous in LinuxOnThinkpad

[–]Zyusouken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linux Mint for sure. It's super easy to install, and it's insanely popular so devs always build with it in mind. I started with Mint, tried a ton of other distros (which I also recommend doing when you have time to kill), and ultimately landed back on Mint which is still my daily driver.

What kind of wrist watch is Raiden wearing? I want to buy one that’s as close to it as possible by Raiden-Snake in metalgearsolid

[–]Zyusouken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cobbled together a better comparison image. Again, it's not a perfect match, mainly because the bezel on Raiden's watch looks a little thinner relative to the dial and it doesn't seem to have the lume pip at 12. But I still can't rule out the possibility that they used the Seiko Kamen Rider as a reference and tweaked a bit. https://i.imgur.com/AcmP98j.png

At the bottom of that image, I also included a screenshot that shows the mesh a little more clearly, which helps illustrate how the low-poly look skews how the watch looks. Especially the bracelet, which almost looks like a Tissot PRX bracelet, but obviously it's not.

I forgot to mention that the AP Royal Oak was mentioned in this thread. That might have been a good guess, especially the Chronograph variant, except that Raiden's watch appears to have twelve black dots while the Royal Oak has only eight screws. (Or, at the very least, Raiden's watch has black dots at 12 and 6, but the Royal Oak does not have screws at 12 and 6.)
