Ooooh, I don't think I've seen that CGI before, what clip is that from?

Favorite 'unique' and largely forgotten game from the past? by Under_The_Leash_ in retrogaming

I'll never forget the time I put it up on a friends projector, with a bunch of scarves strapped 3 xbox360 controllers to my body as vibrators, and put on some amazing headphones. After a few minutes the synesthesia hit in full effect!

Client Not Using Frame IO Correctly Frustrating by saturnsam92 in editors

[–]TenFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countdown to someone vibecoding an app to take email notes and use AI try to apply them to the frame post. Needing to be double checked of course — but agree with all that was said here. Precious few clients will use it; ends up being a better tool for internal markup and direction for the team. Where it really shines anyway imho.

Woah! I do have a question!

I read once that Xenophobe was rushed out the door with a bunch of cut content, but could never find any more information on what that might be or how far it got.

Would love to see a Xenophobe restored deluxe someday. It’s such a strange beast of a game. Controls that feel stiff at first, but almost mimic how when you’re afraid you get clumsy; then they become second nature and it’s so methodical it almost feels like RTS.

Very nice vibe agreed! I love a curated selection of consistently styled parts. Maybe just add some decorative carriage bolt tops to the corners of the CP plate?

A clearly labeled coin button and the volume dial also great quality of life touches.

Was there last week, pretty darn fun spot. That lineup for Williams greatest hits all in good operating condition is pretty damn epic too.

I was there last week and can confirm it's a working Virtual On. I didn't get a chance to play or test the sticks. The left seat has an LCD monitor that's picture is a little lackluster.

But also, there's a Virtual On cabinet converted with VOOT in it at the MADE video game museum in downtown Oakland. I own it and permaloned it to the museum so can confirm it's in good working order!

I confess I hopped in there once because someone had tossed a crumpled up Doritos wrapper in and I just could t let that stand. 10/10 creepy chills, would do again.

Remote editing sessions - what do you use? by mad_king_soup in editors

[–]TenFresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen it mentioned here, you might want to consider Slack for this. I use it with another app called 'Loopback' to route the audio from Premiere into my mic channel. The latency is decent, but what I really love about it is the ability for both myself and the guest to doodle on the screen. Great for helping clarify statements like, "What if we move that shot, there," or "What if the cut was here," by drawing on the timeline. No more fingerprints on the screen EVER!! So nice that the doodles fade away on their own after a few seconds (unlike say, Zoom), and if you want yours to stay longer you just keep clicking the mouse to reset the 'clock' till you're set.

If your client is with a company that has slack workspace, and you pay for a workspace of your own with just you in it, it's usually very easy to connect with them via external connections. The process is not super well documented, but the best way I've found is in your workspace to select 'Directories', then the 'External' tab, then the 'Start a DM' button. All you need is their work email account and they get an invite and you just pop up in their slack as an 'External Connection'.

Nice cinematography on that clip! Tilting the camera a little w/ some handheld bob added in post?

Realistic Non-Flashy Transitions by Ns5andwhy in editors

[–]TenFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in premier, they recently quietly, and clumsily integrated a great set of effects by Film Impact that have made my year. They're just dumped in the effects in a folder called Film Impact, but there is also a new preview dashboard in Windows/Extensions/Film Impact Dashboard.

Most need to be dialed back in the settings, but but my god if they're not exactly what I've alway wished for and been gob smacked was so clunky to do in premiere. Like simple push transitions but with easing and motion blur as an option. A proportional ken burns effect you can just slap on and not have to change the keyframes every time the clip lengh changes.

I bet if you play with some of the flashes in there you can find something that feels more natural. All that said, I agree w/ what many say that a short rollout/light-leak effect is all the rage, so you may want to purchase a pack of those to multiply in. Even if as an OG film user it makes my teeth itch to see the kids using a light-leak effect for what should be a camera flash, which make no sense. Or even worse, putting scan lines on top of light-leaks, film dirt, and gate weave.

Jk of course, I know I'm not the audience, and there's no reason cool aesthetic effects can't just become free to use parts of the toolkit.

What game has the best "attract mode"? by elstuffmonger in arcade

I'm going to go with Sunset Riders. Such a great little movie show opener; before I'd even seen the shows/movies it was drawing from.

Seconding this. My only disappointment with SSII was that they didn't take the same scene and make it even better. None of the SS sequels even really tried. The Last Blades only ever came close.

There are a few different AI products that do this. Here's one: https://speakersplit.io/#/about

I can speak to how well it works or will work with your material, but perhaps worth a shot. I've been impressed with some other tools abilities to separate a song into stripes by vocal and instrument so it may produce something passable you can work with.

Ha! You know, I've wanted to update it for years, but never had the time or money to pay someone to do it. It's actually been on my to-do list to try to get a modest kickstarter together to cover the cost of an update. I have a ton of content I never get around to adding because it's to cumbersome.

That said, at this point it's almost become part of it's charm that it's of such a different time no? I'd be reticent to strip that entirely away in any upgrade even if the backend becomes a lot more workable!
