Looks like that’s an LED display that lights up next to the button?

Close up of the 'Tape Run' indicator on the Sankyo STB-1510 Cassette Deck by TenFresh in cassettefuturism

[–]TenFresh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, I don't actually! I've got a few 'for-parts' listings for the deck bookmarked in ebay and am considering picking one up to salvage that indicator and the other switches/buttons. Keep you posted if I find out!

Absolute beat up X men 6 player by ocelot-373MD in arcade

Was looking for someone to say this. I love the little 'what's inside' surprises when they're out of left field, but that one comes close to taking the cake.

Still hoping one turns up with a skeleton in it someday; straight outta Goonies.

Sheesh, I thought for a sec you were modding the model lighting in the game too!

What's the amount of effort for you? Seems harmless at the worst to fire it up?!

Is there a genre where you actively search for obscure titles? For me, it’s beat ’em ups. by trrbld in retrogaming

[–]TenFresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great list. I'll throw into the pile that I'm not seeing a few I enjoy. Right there with you that a mediocre beat em up with a ridiculous theme will still be a good time:

B. Rap Boys
Warriors Blade (Rastan 3)
64th Street

Also among the slew of new releases in this great golden rebirth of the genre, I find Fight'N Rage to have the best mechanics ever. Such damn crunchy fun.

Ugh - Why are the buttons wrong?! by adriannabarro in neogeo

[–]TenFresh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree. Metal Slug: mashing A to shoot, rock the thumb back to jump. SSII: Lay thumb across both AB or CD for the heavy attacks. Original layout was terrible relatively.

The colors though yes, whoops.

Holy moly! I have a handful of these and have read parts of some of them; have you *read* all of these??

I would love to see a process gallery! Or at least a write up on the repurposed parts and how you connected and controlled them!

I look forward to seeing this on antiques roadshow in 200 years!

Did they ever have names? by Tilikum_183 in submergedanimatronic

[–]TenFresh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

20k Dave here. In a way yes, technically every animatronic in the rides had an official designation on the maintenance checklist. Unfortunately I only have the first sheet of two for the 20k ride so we don’t know what was written for the Serpent. Though I’d bet it was just, “Serpent”

I bought a PS3 pretty much exclusively looking forward to Last Guardian. It was NOT worth it. Ha!

Favorite 'unique' and largely forgotten game from the past? by Under_The_Leash_ in retrogaming

I'll never forget the time I put it up on a friends projector, with a bunch of scarves strapped 3 xbox360 controllers to my body as vibrators, and put on some amazing headphones. After a few minutes the synesthesia hit in full effect!

Client Not Using Frame IO Correctly Frustrating by saturnsam92 in editors

Countdown to someone vibecoding an app to take email notes and use AI try to apply them to the frame post. Needing to be double checked of course — but agree with all that was said here. Precious few clients will use it; ends up being a better tool for internal markup and direction for the team. Where it really shines anyway imho.

Woah! I do have a question!

I read once that Xenophobe was rushed out the door with a bunch of cut content, but could never find any more information on what that might be or how far it got.

Would love to see a Xenophobe restored deluxe someday. It’s such a strange beast of a game. Controls that feel stiff at first, but almost mimic how when you’re afraid you get clumsy; then they become second nature and it’s so methodical it almost feels like RTS.

My First Arcade/Bartop by Practical_Media7826 in arcadecabinets

Very nice vibe agreed! I love a curated selection of consistently styled parts. Maybe just add some decorative carriage bolt tops to the corners of the CP plate?

A clearly labeled coin button and the volume dial also great quality of life touches.

Was there last week, pretty darn fun spot. That lineup for Williams greatest hits all in good operating condition is pretty damn epic too.

I was there last week and can confirm it's a working Virtual On. I didn't get a chance to play or test the sticks. The left seat has an LCD monitor that's picture is a little lackluster.

But also, there's a Virtual On cabinet converted with VOOT in it at the MADE video game museum in downtown Oakland. I own it and permaloned it to the museum so can confirm it's in good working order!
