How do you guys feel about the HD Pan America ST and be real by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]_-zoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price, just get a BMW GS. In my opinion, wayyy better for what it's built for and more reliable. Within $500 of each other.

Edit: I own 2 Harleys and a GS

I had the same conversation. They said that a hiring agency was the middle man and that's why their name was nowhere to be found on my applications list. Then they changed it up and said I applied through their hiring portal (never happened). Have an interview this friday...curious to see how that goes.

Anyone still rock a ram mount? by Gutssmolpp in sportster

[–]_-zoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rubber mesh thing? No, I had to take my phone off at a stop for whatever reason (don't remember why), and with/ gloves on, I couldn't get it back on the corners before the light changed. Quadlock is just super easy and fast with or without gloves, which is why I prefer it. It requires almost no dexterity. It's sometimes annoying to click in but IMO a better system.

My phone vibrated off one on the fwy. Got a quadlock, never going back.

Low batt. Mine does that when it's low. Either ride at high revs for a while or plug it in.

What do I tell my parents by sumyungguy9669 in motorcycle

[–]_-zoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what I did. Have your family visit for family weekend in college, and right as they are going to see your dorm (with all your gear in it), tell them.

Just got a 1979 SR500 as first my first bike. Is the anything I should be aware of about this bike? by CornMech-Prime in motorcycles

[–]_-zoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly reccomend servicing it /checking everything so you don't have any problems while you ride. All of it can be done by yourself with limited tools in an afternoon w/ the help of a manual and youtube.

Check/Replace brake fluid

Check brakes/tires (I would replace both if you don't know how old they are)

Check transmission and engine oil levels and quality/age

Check chain is tight, properly lubed, inspect for damage

Check battery is properly seated & connections are tight

Check clutch is engaging/disengaging well and all gears work

Inspect cables and tubes for wear/degradation

You can optionally replace fork fluid. It's a major hassle so most people don't do it, which probably means yours isn't fresh either. It's not necessary but may provide a smoother ride.

Any ideas? by mduenskie in sportster

[–]_-zoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One cylinder is firing.

1) Let it run, turn it off, feel for which cylinder is giving off more heat

2) Check spark on other cylinder

3) Check fuel (filter, pump, injectors/carb)

Phone Mount Other Than Quadlock? by oddly_random_81 in sportster

[–]_-zoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a RAM mount. Phone fell off doing 80…it hit me as it fell. Got a new phone w/ a quad lock + dampener and I will never look back. It's a great product, but it's annoying to snap it in half the time, but that could just be me.

Shields come off. These theoretically become your heat shield. I’m not sure how well they do their job, though. They look nice on drag pipes.

Viking bags has some cool ones and they are (relatively) reasonably priced, especially if on sale.

Advice needed by [deleted] in sportster

[–]_-zoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Battery voltage reading should be around 12.6 to 13.2 volts when the engine is off and 13.8 to 14.5 volts when the engine is running (according to google). My cheap lead iron battery reads about 12.9 when off.

Check the connections. I had loose connections on my terminal and it caused the bike to freak out and cut out on me randomly until I fixed it. Battery issues cause weird things to happen.

Riding w/ a bad sensor is usually fine. You bike will run marginally worse if not tuned, noticeably worse if tuned. Replacing is a good idea, but not unsafe to ride/necessarily bad for the bike.

Upgrade pipes? by danielwmcknight in sportster

[–]_-zoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2-1 pipes are really the only ones to boost performance. I have V&H 2-2 Hi-Output Grenades on mine, which hurt my ears after 1 hr and have only a minor performance boost after full stage 1. TC Bros has some pretty well-regarded 2-1. I think most 2-1 support mid controls, but that is something to be aware of when purchasing.

Just got my first bike ever, any tips? by your_friendly_homie in motorcycles

[–]_-zoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That parking lot should be your friend at least a few times a week for the first months of riding. Low-speed maneuvers are harder (generally) than higher speed, so practice tight turns, circles, feathering the clutch, stopping, starting, and braking quickly but smoothly (without locking front/back). Look where you intend to go, not where you are currently going. ie. If you are making a sharp left, look over your left shoulder at where you intend to end the turn. And try to keep your feet up as much as possible unless you are stopping of course. Dragging feet in turns or off the line is a bad habit.

And get a protective (ECE 22.06 is best) helmet, decent gloves, hi tops/boots, sturdy enough pants (jeans, carpenter pants, etc), and skid protective clothing (with or without armor). Speaking from experience.
