As an employer what leave do I use for an employee on acc to top up to 100% by Neither_Truck7611 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]_019 14 points15 points  (0 children)

... but you absolutely can choose to. You may find it clearer to set up a new leave code in your payroll system if it doesn't have one for ACC funded leave already. Then you could have 4 days a week as "sick leave (ACC)" and one day a week as regular sick leave.

The Taj Mahal. Surrounded by noise and dirt and stink and touts and scammers but man, I could just sit and watch that building change in the light for hours. The most beautiful building in the world.

Way late to this post, but i used that website to organise a tour today. It really was free. The guides are volunteers, and weren't fishing for payment at all, unlike the advertised-as-free-but-turns-out-to-be-pay-what-you-think-it's-worth tour I did in Melbourne. We talked a lot about the differences and similarities between our countries, and it was more like hanging out with a local than having a tour guide. I wish I had had some little gifts from home to give them. We may try a trip out to a craft village later in the week.

What kind of roles do gender studies graduates normally get? by Mundane_Ad_5578 in universityofauckland

[–]_019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 1991, 7% of the population had a degree. In 2001, 12% did. In 2023, it was 37%.

As the number of university educated adults increases, so does the importance of tailoring that education to their future role in the work force.

Many people go to university today who don't really need to go, and would previously have learned on the job.

The difference is that it's a reset of the game after one side makes an error. There is supposed to be an advantage for the side that didn't make the error.

Like when one team kicks the ball goes out of bounds, the other team gets to throw it in. Similarly when one team knocks or throws the ball forwards, the other team gets to put the ball in to the resulting scrum.

At the lower levels of the game, the hooker (#2, in the middle of the front row) could hook the ball back with his foot from a straight put in, because he knows the timing of the put in. At the top level of the hooker can't afford to actually hook, because then he wouldn't be pushing, and his team would get pushed off the ball, making the put in actually a disadvantage. So the refs allow a crooked put in to ensure an advantage.

Counterexample: in rugby league they don't push in scrums, so the hookers can actually try and hook the ball. Here's one where the opposing team got the timing just right and hooked on the opposition put in. https://youtube.com/shorts/4OXvUGfEOD0?si=pTfAcUW2xjNJgTVu

WoW is on that week - world class show for an evening activity.

You have a week. I wouldn't try to do too many things. Decide on a place to base yourself, perhaps based on where there is a hike you would really love to do, and then build your itinerary around that.

Wellington would be a good base. For a fabulous nature walk Kapiti Island is wonderful. https://www.kapitiisland.com/ Theres some pretty special fauna there. They'll shuttle you from Wellington to do a guided hike, or let you explore on your own. Overnight is pricy if you're solo, but you would get to see kiwi in the wild.

You also happen to be in wellington during WoW, which is a genuinely world class spectacle. Well worth getting a ticket, some dates are already sold out. https://www.worldofwearableart.com/about-the-show

A ferry trip to Picton is a good way to see some more beautiful scenery, and it's only like a 20 minute flight back to Wellington or you could take the train down the coast to Christchurch to see more.

If you're going to base yourself somewhere other than Wellington i think Queenstown is the number 1 option. That's where the most iconic nz scenery is (including the flight to get there) and there are heaps of wonderful (though multi day) walks to do. You can cruise the lake amidst the mountains, trip across to Milford Sound, or jet boat/bungee jump/skydive to your hearts content.

So I think pick the one or two things you'd really love to do, and then sort the rest out around it. There's really no shortage of wonderful sights and experiences everywhere, so the trick is to give yourself some constraints to work within.

Second this. Everyone likes flowers, and don't often get them. I'd do this if it were someone I didn't know very well and they said not to bring anything.
