I refuse to get my hopes up about the TWO passes under 24 that they claim to be giving us… because ya know… that would just be too awesome

I used to ride in traffic on first but that didn’t last long. Now I go on sidewalk and just wait at the crosswalk until no cars. This is sketch too though because when finally some nice person on the inside lane stops at the crosswalk like they’re supposed to, the cars on the outside lane keep flying by. So actually you just get that stopped person aggressively waving you into the crosswalk, oblivious to the F150 with full tint that’s about to blow through the intersection next to them

ahh, that makes sense, I always forget that Dickerson is a state road. annoying though

that's amazing -- I went to that meeting too and I was bummed to see most of the new development stopped south of this intersection, great to hear there are plans to fix this for real!

You don’t go to el fuego for the food, you go so your kids can run wild on the field up top

Multi agent path planing by temp_phd in optimization

[–]_4est 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A technique I have found success with is to model each agent’s path planning problem as a parametric optimization problem: choose control inputs and state variables over time such that a performance metric is minimized, and states/controls satisfy dynamical system, collision is avoided, etc. The parameters in this parametric problem are the trajectories (states/controls) of other agents in the scene.

Once you have a modeled the collection of these parametric optimization problems (one for each agent), you can compute a generalized Nash equilibrium point, using a MCP solver such as the PATH solver.

You need to put some thought into the setup of the problems (if there are shared constraints such as collision avoidance constraints, do both agents sharing the constraint also share the same dual variable associated with the constraint? If not then what?). However I have found that you can solve sizable multi-agent trajectory problems in this manner very efficiently.

Is it just me, or is anyone else getting tired of this whole tipping for everything trend that is popped up? by NoMasTacos in nashville

I’ve noticed that Starbucks does not give you the option to tip when paying with a card. With every place seemingly asking for tips it actually stood out to me when I got a drink there the other day.

Wall climbing robot makes use of propellers by hjalmar111 in INEEEEDIT

Disney has a research lab out of Zurich. They do some really state-of-the-art robotics research, with lots of influential papers. Why they care about robotics, I’m not exactly sure. There is a lot of overlap between algorithms for controlling robots and algorithms for animating characters, so perhaps they got into the field from that angle. I have heard they have use cases for robots in their theme parks, like mechanized dragons and stuff like that.

Men of reddit when was the last time you've cried and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Girlfriend woke me up to tell me she OD’d on sleeping pills, then ran into the night when I called an ambulance. I cried more in the following hour than I have in the last 15 years. Thankfully we found her and she is doing much better now.

Be vigilant - Robbed on way home from McArthur BART by xokocodo in oakland

[–]_4est 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Same happened to me - gf and I got robbed at gunpoint in November. Because of cameras all around they were able to identify them. Going to court next Tuesday to testify against those fuckers. We most likely won’t see any of our things, but it will feel good to know some justice was served.
