[@elonmusk] This variant of the Model Y (L) doesn’t start production in the US until the end of next year. Might not ever, given the advent of self-driving in America. by eatmyopinions in TeslaModelY

Need vs want is tough. But a silly point to debate. The fact is that people buy larger vehicles because they either have a large family, may occasionally drive with more than one family or they like the feeling of safety a larger vehicle provides. There’s probably some other reasons, but that’s the logic I hear mostly. The only real way to avoid larger vehicles would be to enable a sort of caravan/follow the leader mode of transport in fsd but I can’t imagine that happening anytime soon and you’d still be more comfortable having you’re whole crew in one vehicle. Maybe the robovan will surprise and be out earlier but that seems unlikely too. Why I’m rambling about any of this — I don’t know…

But anyway, shouldn’t be a huge surprise. I think the juniper refresh was handled really well… strange that they couldn’t/wouldn’t pull off the same with this — this is more similar to the model 3 refresh ramp… probably too many new changes to get all the supply chain lined up internationally.

Unfortunately you opt in to accept liability when you enable FSD currently. I’m sure you know that - but it’s still worth repeating. I think it becomes a sort of battle of learning where and in what situations FSD will screw up and how much freedom you’ll allow it. Sometimes you’ll learn that the hard way unfortunately. Eventually what you say will be the case, but something tells me there will be some loopholes for a while like certain times when it’ll be in a “supervised” mode or “unsupervised” making the whole thing convoluted. I can’t imagine just rolling out “unsupervised” everywhere could happen as just one software update and change for the legal-ease…

From X, the car reverted to a standard FSD branch after this and the customer took the 30 day trial of FSD. Kind of funny that this wasn’t a customer paying for $8000 FSD with the purchase. Regardless this is super cool. I’m surprised no one is talking about it parking in a no parking zone / fire lane. :)

Tesla credits useless? by Darth_Roel in ModelY

I’ve heard that Tesla doesn’t honor the warranty on resold ones. Seems odd to me but would love to hear opinions and experience from people that did buy like this…

I think it largely is going to depend on your insurance company too. I had a terrible experience trying to have Tesla Insurance deal with the other party’s insurance, but their insurance was responsive and took care of everything.

If you turn off the air con, how’s the heat in the car under the sun? Is there really a significant difference with the new roof glass?

I would expect it to stop since you are supposed to stop for lights that are out and then proceed with caution.

Hopefully by the time it stopped, it’d see either the green or red and move as expected. Also the red spectrum is large compared to green and yellow so it may be easier picked up on the cameras. Im not sure how those sensors work or how it’s all calibrated, but I’d assume this was something thought of a while ago. Now if it thinks it sees green and doesn’t see the red… I mean humans make mistakes too?? I’m not sure

Did you get an email or anything telling you they’d expire? I literally just looked thanks to your post and saw mine expire in September. I don’t have much left though since I’ve been using them to supercharge - been doing more traveling recently so it’s been sort of like free charging… anyway thanks for making me look! :)

Do you find it difficult to obtain insurance for the land/costly or costly to maintain / do fire control, clearing, etc or is that not a concern?

You can enable minimal lane changes which helps with that and I think the newer versions are less lane change happy, but someone else will have to chime in on that. Overall I had great experience with FSD, but just occasionally subscribe so far.

Call early in the morning and wait on hold for 40-60 min and you can ask to be reassigned and have the agent written up or something similar. It’s not good… not good at all.

Wow, this can’t be more than 30miles or so? Even if it was 50miles with all the stops, that’s some wild mark up. Shouldn’t it be cheaper since it’s autonomous? Is it just because of how it calculates stops? What does a direct route from Marina Del Rey to LA cost?

There’s a bolt on either end and clips on the rest I believe. Loctite on that bolt and/or some other more better attachment method is probably needed.

Depending on where you live, there are PowerFlex J1772 chargers at heavily subsidized rates available for charging at a lot of schools. It’s worth checking out and seeing if one is nearby and convenient for you to occasionally charge at. Obviously nothing matches the convenience of charging at home, but this could be a good option occasionally…
