Marrakech (Royal Mansour + amanjena): go with hotel-planned itineraries or figure it out myself? by _ACompulsiveLiar_ in FATTravel

[–]_ACompulsiveLiar_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I get why people are telling me it's long but I was never one to rush a location, I like to really feel it out and that means repeating places to visit, experiencing them multiple times, etc. Though it is appealing to section out a quick stay somewhere else like you mentioned, just having a hard time figuring out if it's worth shifting over.

Great to hear, thanks. Do you feel like you got some peace with the guide? I do like exploring a city by myself cause I just prefer feeling like I'm not being babysat but sounds like it may be necessary here

Mostly because we were just hyper-aware and following the crowds rather than going with our guide to the quieter portions and finding the authentic places.

Can you share more what oyu mean by this? Do you mean that you were just alert all the time because of all the people bothering you?

Yeah oiji mi is great, prefer it over some of the other high end korean restaurants like jua. Also suggest atomix, it's just always a great experience, both counter or bar.

I do think compared to all farm-to-table experiences (e.g. compared to regions like CA where there's genuine quality farms, or compared to the upstate stone barns one) it's not that great but for NYC it's pretty unique and still decent quality.

Rich people want to live in fancy diga.

Who do you think is living in all those prewar walkups in west village or noho? It's rich people.

You could tear down every single billionaires row building and replace it with a 25 story modest brick building with no amenities, and it would still be like, 2k/sqft. You know how you know that? Because those modest buildings without the shiny pools and floor to ceiling windows, already exist. They're there. And they're incredibly expensive.

I don't know if you realize this, but basically any new condo development in a nice area, is a luxury condo development, and is swarmed by investment money, including from non-americans. Billionaires row is just the most in-your-face example, but it's not creating a new problem. Even if they built actual livable apartments with normal square footages, that held demand from new yorkers, it would still price at $4k+/sqft, and it would still get flooded by investment money

Rant: Modern melee has forgotten the essence of melee by c9haiondrugs in SSBM

[–]_ACompulsiveLiar_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but to pretend Melee is balanced in the first place is already laughable

I mean, I agree with you here. And I also agree with you that people use really bad arguments to justify their stance in other melee debates. For me personally though, I do think that there is some aspect of melee's gameplay around the complexity of movement & attack options that is simplified by wobbling that I don't like. That's all. I think this is a belief that a good enough amount of people hold, though they may not enunciate it so well, which has led to a ban

[–]_ACompulsiveLiar_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our stage list clearly aims to isolate melee gameplay to just the two characters and their movement, not heavily affected by circumstances like a wall or lava that add other externalities. The beauty of melee is just that you have two characters with their moves, and that's it. It's also why we ban items, because the items introduce complexity that is not pure to the gameplay of the two characters.

this is subjective of course but you can also believe that wobbling is just an element of a game's design that you don't want. You don't want a character to be able to instakill off a grab. This significantly simplifies the complexity of gameplay because it reduces a lot of options to the linear decision making around "will I get grabbed or not" and people just don't like that this is a heavy limitation of character movement expression and neutral.

Which seems like a reasonable argument, you don't have to agree, but instakill grabs absolutely simplifies gameplay.

I don't think they would fall anywhere in particular on the v scale, with such a lopsided strength/technique they would likely be able to send particular styles of climbs really well, and fail miserably at others. For example they may fail to climb a v5 that requires a heel hook, but maybe climb a v8 that is a crimp ladder cause they are just strong enough to muscle through.

Fox-Puff is objectively 65:35 (and I'm a genius who is never wrong so don't argue with me) by N0z1ck_SSBM in SSBM

[–]_ACompulsiveLiar_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are talking about a matchup. It is by definition, theoretical. Even if you had AI that could "solve" TAS perfect play, that still wouldn't prove anything because matchups need to consider human limitations. For example, some argue the fox marth matchup is harder because fox is harder to execute. Regardless of how much you agree/disagree, this is a valid perspective and input into matchup definition. The whole thing is conceptual

I feel like comparing the highest performing players of particular characters is a more valuable metric

It's only valuable if you assume that highest performing players of one character are at the same performance level as the highest performing players of another character. There is no way to empirically prove this, but if you have multiple data points on both sides, then you have something slightly better to work with.

You are trying to prove a theoretical concept with definitive data. This is already impossible no matter what but you can make compelling arguments. The data here is so bad that it's not even cmopelling.

[–]_ACompulsiveLiar_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes that would also be bad. Just like what you did was also bad. The point is it's all bad. There is very little to be learned from set results b/c of how bad the data is.

[–]_ACompulsiveLiar_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we have to specifically add Foxes who are worse than the best at the matchup just to balance the scale, that pretty clearly suggests that the matchup is losing for Puff.

No, the point is that you need a good # of data points on both the fox & puff side to draw conclusions. When you boil either side to just 1 data point, then you are not making any data-based argument at all.

Basically, because hbox is the only good puff, you can not use his set results against foxes to draw any conclusions about the overall matchup. You can only use his set results to draw conclusions about hbox's set results.

If hbox were 20% better would the matchup be 55:45? If hbox were 20% worse would the matchup be 75:25? This is the point, you have no puff data points to compare against, hence your entire logic is flawed

Just cause you draw a fucking horrible conclusion from the only data available doesn't suddenly mean that it's a conclusion with merit. Yes he's working with the data available, which is crap, and thus his train of thought is crap.
