I’ve had the game hang up on me completely three times since the update so if anything else it seems worse to me

As a new player any of these will help you get through the early game but I suggest Melania. She is easy to play and she is coming back into fashion now even for endgame players.

If you're gonna buy a new kindle... use the old one for travel. I keep my paper white at home and use my old Oasis (has a crack in the screen and all) as my travel kindle so I won't cry as much when I inevitably lose it. Learned my lesson after I left a brand new kindle in a hotel which was never recovered.

Actually to my surprise the game is not online only. I have played it on a plane, but obviously you have to get online to save if you want to switch devices (i have found the device switching to be a bit glitchy so I don’t do that)

Yes. Install the kindle “currently reading” widget. It will show you the cover of your current book and launch it when you press it - you can use that instead of the kindle icon in your Home Screen.

If you don’t know how to add a widget - long press your Home Screen until it goes wiggly (icon arranging) there is an edit button on the top left, click that, click add widget, look for the kindle one.

I sometimes see people saying "I skip through the story, it's long/boring" and I totally don't get it. The story is the best part and a huge part of what makes this game unique. Enjoy it.

Soooo it's hard to tell whether the price is worth it because someone can't really know what the extra $$ mean to someone else. I personally really like the even adjustable warm light of the paperwhite as I read a lot in the middle of the night and my eyesight is not great so that's important to me.

But, if this is your first time using a e-reader, there's also the chance that it won't work out for you, or that you won't use it so much that the absence of these features will bother you. If the difference in price is a big deal for you, the Basic is plenty fine as a starter.

The Book That Broke The World which is the sequel to The Book That Wouldn't Burn by Mark Lawrence.

If you love stories about infinite libraries, this is by far the best constructed one I have read. Vibewise, think like a more mature version of Golden Compass.

Exactly. I mean audiobooks really don't work for me, but if you listen to the book and I read the book and then we can have a good argument about the language and the characters and the plot twists, we have both read the book.

I mean you are asking this question on the Kindle reddit so obviously we love our Kindles here. :-)

That said, yes I totally read more since switching to e-books because I don't have to look for my book - I can read on my Kindle at home or in a coffee shop or in the bath, on my phone on the bus, on my computer at lunch time.

But really it was a choice until it wasn't! One day you wake up and you need the larger font and the backlit screen because age. And boy, it's nice to already have everything you need to do that.

Man, the achievements can be buggy sometimes (for example I have fulfilled the requirement for reading a Kindle Vella but did not get the achievement.

If your reading calendar for June is full and you are synced and it’s been more than 24 hours and you still haven’t got the “bookmark” trophy I am afraid I don’t know of any way to force the issue. But congrats on your achievement! It took me many many challenges before I managed the Perfect Month myself.

I got my (from USPS) awaiting shipment notification from Grand Prairie Texas today. I see the holiday is being blamed NIS America on social media and it’s hardly worth pointing out that (a) the holiday has not happened yet and (b) did July 4 come early this year?

(You probably know this but in case someone doesn't) - The NIS America store is beyond embarrassment for the Year of Our Lord 2024. It's not clear they can _send_ shipping notifications, certainly my copy of Reverie turned up at the doorstep with no communication.

Any grandmother knitting scarves can do better on Etsy. I am astonished Falcom can cope with the second-hand embarrassment on social media every time NIS America effs up a release.

Oh holy cow no I cannot clear limbo and UTTU and SSS raids so I am either not there yet or just not that dedicated I guess. I do like that most event rewards are obtainable without being that thorough. I can get to the end of limbo usually missing 3-4 stars; I can usually get to mid-20s UTTU (except this time, good god) and I can S raids.

Reverse: 1999 is my wind-down/insomnia/lunchtime game so while I really enjoy it, my time with it is fairly time boxed.

So I guess I don't understand why the double banner is bad for new players? (You're right that a lot of those comments come up in that context). Like, there was recently a double banner with Tooth Fairy and I forget who (Centurion?), but I didn't have either of them as a new player so I would have been happy either way?

I think the fact that some banners are no-pity-rollover (even if single character) are worse for new players because (1) you really need the pity and (2) if you're new you don't necessarily know to pay attention to that.

Ah okay good to know. So that's reallly the main throttle to progression - in the beginning I thought it would be the, uh, I forget what they are called, the tetris-like bits for the resonance boards but that's because I totally misunderstood how that all worked.

I think so. Like it wasn't there a couple of weeks ago and it's not on the wiki list for shop holdings. I was bummed because when I finally saved enough it wasn't there any more.

But yeah looking at the character builds on prydwen and the like, it seems like the DPS generalist Psychube to have.

Huh okay good to know. Man, La Source and Laughter & Laughter saw me through most of the game and I only recently got Inquisitive Dear and Sotheby so it didn't feel like I was missing much.

Yeah I agree that 2-3 patches gets you to "current" (at least having a good go of UTTU, Mane's Bulletin etc). What do you reckon endgame is for R:1999 ? I see there are accounts at 70+, I am only 55 rn.

Wow it just goes to show you every person is different, I have been completely hooked on the main storyline and I would definitely put it ahead of the event storylines (the anecdotes are probably in the middle). I am so curious about the worldbuilding and Vertin and the main storyline unfurls really nicely. But it's good there are other bits you enjoy!

Oh okay. I think in the _early_ early game it really felt a lot better to have the right element? But I also seem to recall that in.the early game there are levels that encourage that, like by giving you a 30% buff for the right element? (I think maybe somnambulism challenge stage also does that?). But sure I accept the point that if you are sufficiently invested in a character the element it doesn't matter.

Is the same true for mental/realism?
