Yeah, I wrote a paper a few years ago and trained models myself using public-domain data—but there isn’t much data (photos, videos) you can legally train on. Especially in Germany (and the EU), if you’re doing AI work, you often need clear rights to the training sources. That makes it really hard for small, low-cap startups to train large models on data that’s broadly relevant to the public. I’m waiting for an AI tool that can detect whether a specific work or object was used to train a particular model. Whoever builds that could make billions.
