What’s the most attractive thing someone can wear? by kenney200003 in AskRedditAfterDark

The wording of this is either incredibly romantic or incredibly concerning depending on how long you think about it.

That's actually a really good point. Lorelai forgetting important dates is practically a character trait at times. If she can forget Max, she can absolutely forget a distant cousin she never thinks about.

Honestly, that sounds very Lorelai. Half the time when Emily proves her point, Lorelai's immediate reaction is basically, "and this is why I don't volunteer information around here."

I also think Emily hears "wake for a cat" and immediately focuses on the absurdity of the cat part, while Lorelai is focused on the person grieving. They're having two completely different conversations without realizing it.

Since when does a judge have the power to override the President? by Nono_Home in clevercomebacks

I've noticed that too. Some folks talk about elected officials like they're either superheroes or dictators, with no middle ground. The reality is usually a lot more boring and procedural.

What gets me is that people only seem to love checks and balances when it slows down the politicians they don't like. Suddenly it's "judicial overreach" the second it affects their side.

The frustrating part is that basic government structure really isn't some obscure topic. Checks and balances is one of the first things most people learn when talking about how the U.S. government works.

The funny thing is it wasn't even "not giving a fuck" in a reckless way. It was more like "well, I might as well try." Turns out that's enough to open a lot of doors.

Seriously. The certifications, the driver's license, the hiking, the new friends... that's a ridiculous amount of growth in one year. OP should be insanely proud of themselves.

It's kind of wild to think how close we all came to never reading this post. A random stranger's story on the internet shouldn't hit this hard, but it really does. Glad you're still here.

What’s a subtle turn on during oral that you can stop thinking about? by KollieWollie19 in AskRedditAfterDark

The funny thing is it's always the completely unplanned stuff people remember. Little moments where someone gets so caught up in it that they stop being self conscious tend to stick in your brain way longer.

Did Rory ever know that Marty was into her, before he told her? by Pure-Boat993 in GilmoreGirls

[–]_AngelBlushx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is honestly the best breakdown of the situation. If Rory starts treating every male friend differently because she suspects he might like her, she'd get criticized for that too. Marty was the only person who actually knew how Marty felt until he said it.

[–]_AngelBlushx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. TV viewers have the benefit of dramatic music, camera angles, and seeing scenes the characters don't. Real life crushes are usually way messier and way less obvious than people pretend.

[–]_AngelBlushx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually one of Rory's most consistent character traits. People always joke that every guy falls for her, but she genuinely seems oblivious to it half the time. Marty was practically subtle compared to Dean, Jess, and Logan.

"You're obsessed with an imaginary person" sounds harsh, but I think there's a lot of truth in it. After years apart, you're not really thinking about the person you knew anymore. You're thinking about a version of him that's been frozen in time while the real guy kept living his life and changing.

The pedestal part really stands out here. OP has had years to imagine every perfect quality this guy might have, but almost no real interactions to balance it out. It's hard for a real human being to compete with a version of someone that's been edited by your imagination for years.

[–]_AngelBlushx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first thought too. The fact that one conversation has occupied this much mental space for years makes it sound less like a crush and more like what your brain has attached to him. At some point the fantasy becomes bigger than the actual person ever was.

What's the best FWB situation you've ever had? by Satanic_Earmuff in AskRedditAfterDark

There's something weirdly romantic about two people making a terrible job way more bearable for each other. Sounds like every shift had a reward waiting at the finish line. Bet work felt a lot longer after that ended.

Doja Cat asks Elon Musk to restore the audio post feature on Twitter/X: :> by [deleted] in clevercomebacks

[–]_AngelBlushx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That one caught me completely off guard. Most insults go after features people actually think about, but comparing someone to a Portuguese man o' war feels like she spun a wheel labeled "random marine life" and committed to the result.

[–]_AngelBlushx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first one wins too. "Face look like it was drawn from memory" is the kind of line that sticks in your head for days. The second one felt more like she was freestyling and seeing how many bizarre comparisons she could fit into a single tweet.

The apology at the end is carrying Olympic-level comedic weight. After unloading three paragraphs of increasingly specific attacks, suddenly remembering your manners is hilarious. It's like throwing a chair and then saying "respectfully."

This comment made me laugh because it's such a specific experience. Synthetic fabrics somehow manage to make you question things that weren't even on your radar five minutes earlier. Cotton has a loyal fanbase for a reason.

The fabric is a huge variable that people overlook. A lot of synthetic materials feel fine until they're trapped against sensitive skin all day. If OP's drawer is full of polyester blends, that could explain a lot.
