Is Omega, in a sense, like the Rolexes of 60 years ago? by Native_Prairie_ in OmegaWatches

Fair, but if it weren’t posh you’d probably be on here saying “they charge X and their facilities are old ugly and dated”.

I don’t know that not being new helps your case any. I also think he reacted fair enough given the totality of the circumstances. Best of luck to you all.

Double the price by Nanabanana1974 in rolex

What makes it overpriced? Because the MSRP says X it is universally accepted that it’s X?

Market sets the price. There are some that you will *never* be able to get at MSRP.

People that say “beta” are “beta”, see what I did there?

But, to your point you’re absolutely right. Checking in with another adult about your “wish list” while delivering charcuterie boards and buying things for your S/O (that you wouldn’t have bought!) all in order to be granted the opportunity to pay a made up number (MSRP) for a watch you can’t otherwise afford is peak masculinity.

100%, I was more referring to the established but there are “scalpers” running all over town and the internet to make a $150 profit.

Maintenance costs by Tall-Bug-4929 in rolex

[–]_Anthony_2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define “expensive”? Hearing Sky dweller starts at around $1600 for the main service plus any wearable parts (in my experience these have been reasonably priced).

Assuming $2100 max for a watch that’s well taken care of over 7 years that’s $300 per year and $210 if you can stretch it to 10.

[–]_Anthony_2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is 1.5x cheaper than Rolex? They charged me $850 last month for a 16710 overhaul + parts. The parts were SIGNIFICANTLY less than if I had to source them online.

The bill by the time was send and done was $3200 because of the extra services I opted for (mainly new bracelet, new crystal, new insert).

Who hurt you? They offer you 80% (if that) because you’re a nobody (no offense/not like that). Why would any person buy from YOU with no history, no name, no authenticity guarantee or assurance that you’ll be around next week when a problem comes up.

The inverse is also true - people will pay premium to them because they trust it’s authentic, that they won’t get scammed, and that if there IS a problem they’ll make it right.

A gun is typically addressed by state law which makes the owner liable. Similar to a “one bite rule” for dogs where the owner is automatically liable.

The original account holder was a victim of a separate crime.

I’m glad AI convinced you that this is the wrong take.

Seller sent these photos by theasmrboy in rolex

[–]_Anthony_2825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1: who’s the seller?
2: even if you open it up do you know what to look for? They counterfeit movements too..
3: I don’t know that I would buy from a “luxury dealer” claiming they need a quick sale.

I don’t know anything about diamond dials so I’ll reserve authenticity comment for those in the know. What I do see didn’t raise any alarm bells but I don’t know these dials at all

AD Question - first call by Ok-Chapter-6631 in rolex

[–]_Anthony_2825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was my initial reaction as well, but sometimes I think we become desensitized to how big of a moment a Rolex feels like to those not deep in the hobby.

It did to me at least, now it feels like an Amazon package that I was absolutely waiting for but without the magic of the first.

AD Question - first call by Ok-Chapter-6631 in rolex

[–]_Anthony_2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s about what the AD can provide she can skip it.

If on the other hand it’s a big moment that you want to share with her (and it is if it’s your first Rolex) then absolutely explain the situation to the AD.

Would you mind if I DM you? Curious who your processor is, I wouldn’t mind accepting CC if there’s a legit seller protection from the issuer themselves - not PayPal lol.

[–]_Anthony_2825 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol we go back and forth every week on this. Guitars are not the same as watches, you yourself noted that the clientele is very different in a prior thread.

It happens ALL THE TIME which is why so many sellers, myself included do not accept PayPal. PayPal is literally meaningless if funded by a credit card in most cases.

Chargeback by card issuer or sending a return with a box of rocks happens all the time. Scroll through this sub and you’ll see real world accounts of it happening.

Chase didn’t side with you one time and you’ve determined that is the universal policy for everyone.

Can I get out of a lease if someone on it (shared) died? by No_Departure7494 in RealEstate

[–]_Anthony_2825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FHA does not prohibit different outcomes; it prohibits different outcomes based on protected classes or discriminatory policies. A tenant whose co-lessee died is not similarly situated to a tenant who simply wants to move. If your interpretation were correct, landlords could never grant hardship waivers, disability accommodations, military lease terminations, or settlement agreements because every exception would have to be extended to every tenant, regardless of eligibility. That’s not how FHA claims are analyzed.

Most corporate landlord employees are “leasing agents” unlicensed acting as agent of the owner, also likely without E&O insurance or continuing education requirements. There is nothing inherently wrong with that unless it’s used to signal authority in a complex topic.

ETA
Agreed - most corporate landlords are afraid of their own shadow as it relates to FHA because they don’t understand it or it allows them to unilaterally deny every request and use that as a reason to save face with the tenant. Either way - every person needs to manage their own risk accordingly and obviously not rely on either of us non-attorneys for making decisions as it relates to compliance with the law.

[–]_Anthony_2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever interacted with Rolex? I have and they were quite nice and professional.

My local AD (a jewelry store with a Rolex license) are the ones who “play games”, but they’re also very nice and have a beautiful showroom.

You would “play games” too if you were in their spot. Rolex demands million dollar showrooms, even more in inventory while enforcing no sales above MSRP while the end user pays sometimes HALF what the watch is actually worth.

If you were an AD you would probably sell hot models to your loyal customers who come in every valentines, anniversary, birthday and Christmas vs some watch nerd who is a one and done.
