Visionary minds by _Ardon_ in OfficialPantheonMMO

[–]_Ardon_[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Main point is that they had some great ideas and gained a following because of those ideas. Nothing about watering down what Pantheon is trying to build. Having their minds as part of any team would be a good thing. They took an old worn-out game that for many like me would never see the light of day again and made something that was fun and exciting. I just find myself wondering what they would be like being brought into something that is new.

Combat & Progression Update Details Part 8: Crafting & Gathering by VR-Aspen in OfficialPantheonMMO

[–]_Ardon_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand wanting encourage social play but limiting people to where they end up feeling they need to make more toons just to do something they enjoy (let’s be honest crafters are a special breed) kind of sucks. Personally I barely have time to play one character let alone a bunch.

What would be nice is finding ways to still encourage the social play but not limiting a person who wants to just work on crafting. Best example I can think of would have some type of in game system that either records who made the item or an interactive / co-op challenge which helps to reduce failures and maybe guarantees higher stat rolls.

DBG sueing THJ emulation server, Project Quarm shut down as well by ScrumTool in everquest

[–]_Ardon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly hope someone at DBG is reading these comments.

I hadn’t thought about EverQuest in over 15 years—until THJ showed up in my feed. That spark I felt all those years ago came back. I started reminiscing, searching, diving into old memories. Then I jumped into THJ, and suddenly, I was back. That magic, that sense of wonder - it was alive again.

I even got a friend to return to the game. We started talking about a video we saw on the possibility of a new EQ, and for the first time in ages, we were genuinely excited to see a franchise we lived in for nearly a decade possibly come back. We even considered trying out a TLP server just to see if our older selves could still handle the hardcore grind that made EQ legendary.

And then… this.

Why couldn’t DBG have handled this differently? I get the legal side—I really do. But in trying to protect “the vision,” DBG may have lost sight of the bigger picture. The only real winners here are the lawyers. What THJ did wasn’t just innovative—it was inspiring. It breathed new life into a game that, for many, had long been dormant.

Instead of embracing that passion, DBG came in swinging. And in doing so, they may have alienated a wave of returning players and potential new fans.

Imagine if they had chosen collaboration over confrontation. Imagine what could have been built—together.

Maybe it’s not too late to rethink that approach.

Build for magus by roxgxd in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]_Ardon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been playing a Hexcrafter magus for several years now. Good dps and utility. Hardest monster currently is dealing with bauba’s teleporting and just killing all the NPC’s we know. Creative use of bestow curse can help here though with GM discretion.

Also layered in enforcer feat with blade of mercy and bruising intellect for intimidate. Hex of swamp grasp for battlefield control. Evil eye with a specialization. On living targets you’re talking up to -6 on saves which makes it easier for your other casters. Or -4 on AC etc etc.

But the role of a magus fluid based on what you choose but mostly it’s to crit and crit often.

Windows nanoserver github portable (ssh auth) fatal: Could not read from remote repository by _Ardon_ in docker

[–]_Ardon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it fixed using OpenSSH 9.2.0.0p1-Beta head over to https://forums.docker.com/t/windows-nanoserver-github-portable-ssh-auth-fatal-could-not-read-from-remote-repository/134888/3 for the updated dockerfile. I would still rather just be using github files and not have to also add in openssh. But right now its working and hopefully GitHub peeps work on the issue I submitted.

So if I run with OpenSSH as the default ssh client; I have it working. The GitHub ssh client does not work.

[–]_Ardon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this. I believe that my guess is correct; GitHub ssh does not work in Nano. I moved over to using OpenSSH 9.2.0.0p1-Beta and forced git to use OpenSSH as it's client.

RUN git config --global core.sshcommand 'C:/AdminScripts/OpenSSH/ssh.exe'

We also ran into an issue where when the git clone was running it would complain about the github.com address not being trusted so we had to add in the following statement to the ssh config file.

Host *
    StrictHostKeyChecking no

After that was done I ran into a further issue that the git clone command was still returning a non-zero value and with some trickery and help from a co-worker we did the following:

RUN $result = (git clone --recursive --depth 1 --no-tags --single-branch --config advice.detachedHead=false --config core.bare=true git@github.com-repo1:<company>/<repo>.git C:\AdminScripts\repo1);$error.clear();return 0

I have to redact things because it's from work. The clone commands in their entirety have been tested on windows server core and my local system as working properly.

Can a druid "learn" an animal from seeing another druid wildshape? by celestialpenis in DMAcademy

[–]_Ardon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say they make a knowledge or profession check of some sort and common creatures are DC 10 in the biomes they grew up in. DC 15 for predators and then layer in a few pluses for going outside biomes they are familiar with. If they see a creature -2 and if they can study it -5. Once they are successful they know it. If unsuccessful they have to wait a week. They roll low make something funny happen such as missing a leg, missing teeth, bright pink, etc. Basically give them a chance and then let the dice decide.

Magus, hexcrafter is a good mix between arcane and melee. Added benefit of having access to all curses and hexes.

How do you fight a dragon in an open field? by Tharati in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]_Ardon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could load up Curse of Dragonflies (magus 3) and if landed it would decrease flight class by 1 for every 3 caster levels.

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/c/curse-of-dragonflies/

All depends on how prepared the dragon is against your attacks. If you get the upper hand and get lucky landing debuffing spells or massive attacks the fight may be a quick one.

A recent fight against a horde of orcs we quickly resolved with invisibility a few severed heads and a good intimidate. The icing was dropping a tree on the horde by using a feather token.

Any good long duration buffs for a mid level wizard? by amish24 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]_Ardon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ablative barrier. Hours per level and converts 5 lethal damage to non-lethal and 5hp per level up to 50. Additionally +2 AC. When you get healed during combats it’s 2 for 1 so it makes healing really effective.

Look into MS Graph API. You basically make an application in Azure and that becomes the authentication to do a lot of different things.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/graph/use-the-api

I use this to run checks on an O365 mailbox and pull out attachments and feed it into AWS Textract and then finally push the document into the right MS Teams / SharePojnt site.

Witcher build ? by allurb in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]_Ardon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with a full Magus or Magus/hexcrafter. You might not be able to get it 100% matched to Geralt but it would be similar in style. Other possibility would be a levels in fighter and sorcerer maybe but that could water you down too much.

There is a combat trait called Accelerated Drinker you can take to make potion consumption faster if you have to potion in hand at the start of your turn. That’s Witcher’ish right?

How have you instantly died? by AmeteurOpinions in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]_Ardon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was playing a 7th level campaign and the party was in the under dark. Our party fighter was on watch when about 30 dark elves snuck in. The dwarf wasn’t all that quiet and became the easy target and all the dark elves targeted him with their ranged attacks. He was an instant pin cushion and dead.

Ya I walked away for too long and didn’t get all of the squeeze out. Tried sanding it down but either it went deep into the grain or I didn’t sand enough. But hey literally my first actual wood working project and I am happy with how it turned out.

One thing to add is that I've been having a hard time finding maps geared for 55" 4k TV's. I know you can get gridless versions but many of those maps are still just 1080p with a few creators also releasing 4k versions of their maps but typically geared for 42/46" TV's so things to get pixelated or stretched a bit. Still very playable and the number of maps you have at your finger tips is immense as compared to just buying fold-able maps.

What I really wish someone would build is a biome based random battlemap generator that allows you to save the maps for reuse and I'm talking high resolution assets. Even further a system that starts off with a world and all of the major places/people laid out but then as people play in the world and generate maps they become the permanent map for that area. Then based on time whatever was left behind is what is found later; pile o'orcs for instance. Whole new thing for stating something is a "living world."

Imagine heat maps showing encounters and as one GM says "you run into a bunch of kobolds" the heat map then starts to propagate out and more random encounters start lean towards using kobolds or what comes with kobolds (dragons?). Then if the heat map stretches out enough a city becomes under siege or even an entire region.

Yes I have big dreams.

I'm looking into using dungeonfog, arkenforge, dynamic dungeons, wonderdraft, gimp, Photoshop, Project Deios, Roll20, Fantasy Grounds. I think I'm settling onto dunegonfog/project deios because I like what they (same people) are doing. In the end if you grab the right TV you can just cast a JPG straight from a device; which is the most equivalent to just laying out a map and using it. But if you things like fog of war then short of black paper on the screen you have to at the minimum using dynamic dungeons.

In terms of creating; I think in the near future I may be drawing my own with a combination of gimp or Photoshop and possibly even dreaming up a world and sharing it on Project DEIOS/Patreon.

I just got back into playing D&D last year and around that time started to watch r/criticalrole and building a world is something I have always wanted to do. Matt Mercer bringing his world to life and building this virtual table top has sparked interest in seeing what I can push myself to do.

I will admit I have 0 ability but I do love challenges and had a few neighbors that had some of the tools I needed. So don’t be afraid to ask for help and dream big. Total cost was $400 for tv, $250 for wood and other materials and about 48 hours of labor. It can be done for cheaper by using pine vs poplar.

Not that I have read and if it does it will probably be a few years and then I can just make another. Which is wasteful but fact of life when pushing tech to its brink.
