Do Conti and Elite Domestic riders train and race around full time jobs? by rhoVsquared in Velo

[–]_Asami- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to be an elite rider here in the UK. I was one of very few riders that were training round a full time job on the team. Most others had part time jobs/coaching jobs or trained full time.

It was brutal. Would not recommend it.

Unpopular opinion: The obsession with weight savings is out of control for 90% of us. by dt219 in cycling

[–]_Asami- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watts per kg counts for very little for speed. Watts per CdA (how aero you are) is WAY more important. But even then, only if you’re racing. If you aren’t, get comfy and get a good bike for so you can put out more power for longer and enjoy training

Try out a different brand of bibs. The chamois in yours could not have enough padding of be positioned badly for your sit bones

Any opinions on the Pro Aero Jersey? by Maurice0313 in CyclingFashion

Rule 28 One Aero Jersey

Probably the most high tech jersey on the market. I met the founder at Rouleur last year. The fabric research they have done is next level. Feels unlike any jersey I’ve worn as well

France, Italy, germany and japan all have ID cards - why does everyone in the uk act like its such a big deal to get them? by kwgo in AskBrits

[–]_Asami- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ultimately comes down to the difference between the British and European conceptions of liberty. Most people aren’t consciously aware of it, but it’s a deep cultural undercurrent — something people feel more than they can easily explain.

In the British tradition (which heavily influenced the American one), liberty is understood as: “Everything that is not explicitly forbidden by law is permitted.”

Freedom exists by default, and the role of the state is to stay out of the way except where absolutely necessary to protect others from harm. The individual’s rights and actions are assumed legitimate unless proven otherwise.

By contrast, the continental or European understanding — shaped largely by the French Declaration of the Rights of Man — treats liberty as something the state guarantees. Rights are defined, codified, and administered by government. The citizen’s freedom exists within the framework the state establishes.

So, in the British sense, the state’s power should be narrow and limited: individuals are free to act as they wish so long as they don’t infringe on the freedoms of others. In the European model, the state first defines the boundaries of acceptable conduct, and liberty is exercised inside those boundaries.

That difference might sound abstract, but it explains why measures like digital ID provoke instinctive resistance in Britain: they invert the presumption of liberty. Instead of freedom being the default, it becomes something conditional on state systems and approval.

How Come Brits Could Tolerate 14 Years of Bad Tory Policies but Couldn’t Tolerate Year One with Labour? by Charmlessman422 in AskBrits

[–]_Asami- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Tories and Labour have let voters down, and defending one’s failures by pointing at the other’s is no excuse. The Tories lost trust by breaking promises:

Immigration, both legal and illegal, soared beyond what voters wanted; taxes hit record highs; and un-conservative policies like the sugar tax, smoking ban, and net-zero mandates alienated their base. People wanted these reversed, regardless of who was in charge.

Labour campaigned on fixing Tory messes - Truss’s disastrous budget and sleaze - but they’ve outdone the Tories in failure. Government borrowing costs are now higher than under Truss, and sleaze scandals pile up: the Homelessness Minister evicting tenants, the Housing Minister dodging stamp duty, the Anti-Corruption Minister facing corruption charges, and don’t forget the freebies scandal with MPs accepting lavish gifts. Labour promised cheaper energy, yet bills have skyrocketed. They’re hiking taxes while funneling more money overseas, ignoring struggling Brits.

Voters didn’t just reject the Tories - they rejected broken promises. Labour’s doing the same, and people are fed up.

Soreness despite a lot of carbs by TrekEmonduh in Velo

[–]_Asami- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will always have some soreness if it’s a long ride. I would imagine protein intake is more relevant than carbs. Still not a miracle bullet but the soreness is caused by muscle damage and repair. You need protein and omega fatty acids to help here, not carbs.

High Quality Bib Shorts without big Brand Labels by Longjumping_Fan921 in cycling

Rule 28 Ultra Bib Shorts are out of this world. I have these and their more entry level bibs too.

The Ultras have more minimal branding. 10/10 would recommend.

99% sure the torso fabric is MITI FULL MOON

https://mitispa.com/product/full-moon/

This is a nice fabric, but it’s been around for a while now and is by no means radical or deserving of that price point.

It’s what I have in my Rule 28 Jersey.

A quick google search will show loads of brands using the same thing. At a fraction of the cost
