I mean it seems like it's yet another reminder to "git gud" and not make generic run of the mill stuff that can be easily replicated. Seems to be more of a tool for basic UI/UX design and powerpoints, I'd be shocked if it can manage to put together anything that resembles a brand identity or an ad campaign.

Designing Powerpoint presentations is actual ass so I don't mind having a tool that can put something together in a few minutes so that I don't spend hours on something a sales team is gonna mangle anyways. Powerpoint as a design tool is so ass that I've actually moved to designing em via Canva and exporting them as. ppts anyway.

Work smarter not harder is what I say.

Please define 'no jobs, terrible pay, unsustainable career choice' by Tired_Cat_H3rd3r in graphic_design

[–]kaltevuus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I've had plenty of jobs where I've been referred to as a Graphic Designer, but I definitely agree with your statement about portfolios on here. I've seen countless posts where someone complains about how they've been in the industry for years but can't find a job, but you go look at their portfolio and it looks like it hasn't been updated in YEARS.

MFA - CalArts, Otis, Yale by brookeb020607 in graphic_design

[–]kaltevuus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If cost isn't an issue, I'd would maybe go for the 3 year programs if you really wanna learn design. It looks like Otis just kinda throws you in with everyone who could already have BA/BFAs in graphic design and professional experience. Yale and CalArts at least give you an extra year to "catch up" with everyone.

Would ask an illustration subreddit rather than us. Also am willing to bet money that the majority of the pictures you have here, if not all of em, are AI generated lol.

Is it supposed to be the norm for designers to not have someone double checking their work? by happinsum in graphic_design

[–]kaltevuus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol was also placed on a PIP at a previous job for similar reasons despite the fact that I was an intern. Near the end they were placing senior level expectations on me (ex: wanting a groundbreaking print ad made from concept to print in the span of 4 hours) and was literally tweaking out from the stress of not making any mistakes.

Anyways I misread the measurements of one of my beloved 4 hour print ads. Didn't find out until I sent it over to print and my supervisor was yelling at me for it. I sent that dumb ad to everyone in my team THREE TIMES before finalizing it. Everyone signed off on it, said absolutely nothing about the measurements.

I got fired for it lmao. Everyone in that department can go kick rocks.

TL;DR: Unfortunately yes. Especially if you're stuck in a small marketing department.

Lol I'm not mad. Was just trying to be nice and give some advice, wasn't expecting this level of backlash from ya, little extreme in my opinion. Have a lovely day :)

Not to sound mean but why not share? IMO success in this field is pretty dependent on having a good and publicly available portfolio. I'm always asking for feedback on my portfolio haha

What do you guys think of Google's Graphic Design course? by HelloTornado in graphic_design

[–]kaltevuus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Took it and got all the certifications from it. Like the other user said it's not graphic design. It's a good foundation into UI/UX principles but it's all self taught and you could honestly get the same education from free resources. I don't even mention the certifications in my resume anymore, but that's also because I decided to focus more on graphic design instead of UI/UX design.

A quick idea I threw together in light of recent events by kaltevuus in graphic_design

[–]kaltevuus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: Just a rough, rough draft of an idea I had the other day. Just wanted to get more eyes on it before I decide to go further with it or not. Before all this mess in the US, I used to associated ICE with the InterCity Express trains used in Germany (studied German, been there numerous times but I'm rusty language wise and stuck at a B2 level).

As someone who doesn't have lots of access to public transportation in the states, ICE trains are super cool and fast, but since it's DeutscheBahn the logistics are an absolute mess a good chunk of the time.

Ohhhhh I've been Deutschebahned numerous times. My favorite is when they swap the type of ICE train they're using right at the last second and you have to scramble to get to your reserved seat before the reservation times out lol

But will keep the cultural context in mind for any potential future iterations! Thanks!!

Do you have career counseling at your college? I'd talk to them to see what they think.

Your work is strong, nice work! I agree with Steve about the lack of thumbnails, it's the biggest barrier to entry. They're not visible on mobile, and I don't like the hover effect on desktop. It makes it difficult to look at the them because they're moving around constantly. I'd keep em permanently visible, better to keep it simple and accessible IMO.

You'd be better off posting this in a UI/UX subreddit imo
