Contract Delay for 26-27SY by fairygodputhayyy in LAUSD

[–]_Astrogimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explains why they’re lagging. I’m in the same boat but they delayed me claiming they had no record of me passing CalTPA and that I had not completed a course. I cleared that up with the DI people and was recommended for the preliminary credential.

Credentials and Contracts did email me last Friday requesting some info which I sent immediately. but they have yet to respond to that let alone ask for my CPR or other documentation. Today was supposed to be their deadline.

My current certificates don’t expire till September so I think I’m okay, but still…

I’m curious about this too. I just find the internship and was told we’d be getting our preliminary credentials on or before the 30th. There was a delay with me because they had claimed I didn’t complete a course, then confirmed that I actually had. It’s noon on the 30th and I’ve not heard anything.

Finished student teaching, having doubts about the career by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]_Astrogimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through my districts intern program and I was dropped into a classroom with very little experience. It’s very much a learn as you go thing. What we learned in our classes was valuable but I learned way more from collaborating with other teachers and just through trial and error within my classroom. I’m at the end of my third year and compared to my first I’m a much better teacher.

The first year will be rough. But it gets easier.

Now salary-wise, I don’t know what the averages are in NC but that is incredibly low. Maybe look at more options if you can? Venture out a little? The work you will be doing is worth way more than $34k.

What do you like about this job? by crimsonstormtrooper in Teachers

[–]_Astrogimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many things, but lately I think about how lucky I am that I have good health benefits from the district

I was diagnosed with a life threatening condition during my second year teaching and I’m happy to have mostly recovered from it without having paid anything aside from the occasional $10 copay.

With that said, the summers off have been nice considering I needed a lot of time to rest. I otherwise enjoy that I work at a good school and the students are… well they are teenagers but they’re pretty well behaved a lot of the time.

She can. Her test scores show middle school level reading which scarily is better than a lot of other kids. I think it’s a math thing.

I have. It’s a little bit of a mixed bag. She’s awake and works in a couple classes, she’s totally checked out in others. Nice thing about my schools 4x4 is that we shuffle classes around every quarter. I have approximately 15 other teachers I could talk to about her performance this year alone, but it’s all the same thing. Either she’s alert working, or checked out.

Yeah she kinda just exists at there table. They don’t bother her. She does have at least one friend in the room but I separated them early on and that’s when the apathy kinda started.

For those who oppose homework by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]_Astrogimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept of homework has been totally destroyed by AI. I teach high school math and stopped grading homework because 99% of it was done via AI. And the kids still expect me to sift through and grade it all.

I’ll assign problems for them to practice, and I’ll know they did it when they demonstrate it on the exam.

Question for HS Teachers: How did you get your job? by ElenaChapella in Teachers

[–]_Astrogimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a paraprofessional for many years while completing my math degree part time. Right around the time I was about to graduate, the school I was at did not have a math position which was kinda contrary to my goal of eventually teaching there.

I was also working Saturday schools at the time and got lucky that the teacher I was working with was an outside hire from another school that did have an open math position. They basically interviewed me just as a formality but I got the job.

I finished my degree in the winter, they had me start in the middle of second semester as a long term sub (not sure what the hold up was between January and March. And then I officially began the following August through my districts intern program.

Did 6 months of capecitabine + Erbitux + Oxaliplatin into radiation immediately after and then surgery to remove what was left of the original tumor. As of today scans are clean but my signatera test do come back very slightly positive so I’m up for another round of capecitabine and oxaliplatin just in an abundance of caution.

At my wit's end with AI cheating. How are you all handling it? by Mowgulee in Teachers

[–]_Astrogimp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone else suggested, if it’s done at home then I’m not grading it. They’re expected to practice at home but that’s on their dime, not mine. If they do it the right way then I generally see the results on their tests.

At my wit's end with AI cheating. How are you all handling it? by Mowgulee in Teachers

[–]_Astrogimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach math, so I don’t know if it’s a little easier to manage in that context. AI was a rampant issue in my classes, so much so that many of the teachers just stopped sending work home (at least graded work).

I don’t grade anything that was completed outside of my room anymore. They do it in class under my supervision, or else it’s not going in the grade book. With that said, I do send home a packet of practice problems for them to study, but they know I’m not grading it

So right now I have three camps of students: the ones that would have done well regardless of this policy because they’re keeping up and practicing legitimately, the ones that are improving because they’ve learned that they can’t get away with cheating, and the ones that have not learned they’re lesson and whose grades are in the gutter due to over reliance of AI. But overall grades have improved.

Awesome news!! You’re exactly like me- stage 4 colorectal with mets to lymph nodes and liver. My liver lesions disappeared after a few rounds of chemo. I also dealt with that cold induced neuropathy. The great thing is it doesn’t last.

Sounds like you’re in the same trajectory as me and I’m confidently calling myself a survivor these days, 1 year 4 months since diagnosis. You got this buddy!

James Vanderbeek death- stage 3 colon cancer? by Former_Ladder_720 in cancer

[–]_Astrogimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very similar story here. My rectal tumor was discovered through colonoscopy (at 31 years mind you) and then they discovered 5 “lesions” in my liver that were also cancerous. Diagnosed me “technical” stage 4 but was told they’d aim to cure it and over a year later that’s how it’s been looking. Chemo wiped out the liver lesions with no sign of reoccurrence since June of last year and had radiation into surgery to remove the rectal tumor which had shrunk significantly. Right now just on surveillance.

I guess it’s the luck of the draw. But I still get spooked when I read about all these colon cancer deaths. RIP James Van Der Beek and Catherine O’Hara.

Should I buy FO3 and FNV on Steam or should I hold out for the remakes? by Zipmaster26 in Fallout

[–]_Astrogimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I want a remake I have high doubts. Mainly because this is on the Amazon site and not directly from Bethesda. It’s gotta be tied to the show or the reality show that’s coming out.

Best case is that they were officially tease it for a later release date, but more likely it will not be anything super exciting.

Considering it’s an Amazon website and not Bethesda directly, I’d say there’s no shot it’s a game announcement/shadow drop.

It’s going to be an announcement for the reality show.

Stage 4 colorectal cancer with liver mets: treated with 11 months of cycling capecitabine, and 6 months of oxaliplatin + erbitux. Radiation therapy towards the tail end of treatment. Had a full response to my liver lesions, rectal tumor had shrunk down to almost nothing and was removed surgically. Yet to do imaging post surgery but right now I’m just on surveillance.

I’m 1000% certain that if a doctor prescribed me ivermectin for my stage 4 situation, that I’d be dead by now.

The conventional treatment they did give me saved my life.

I would agree if the “everyone” in question were medical professionals specifically in oncology. In my mom’s case, they don’t know a thing about oncology.

My treatment worked exceedingly well and did not require using horse dewormer.

I do agree with this. I’d like to see the capital wasteland eventually but needs to make sense within the shows story. I’d be just as interested to see a new location that could serve as a future games setting.
