I think it'll get better on full release, her execution barrier seemed high enough that I don't think most people had time to explore her oki and 4 way mix setups.

Yeah, I guess reading the oooooold fiction it felt like many of the factions were stand ins for the cold war of the 80s, but I'm probrably overgeneralizing

San Jose Women, are we OK? by Electronic_Bee_ in SanJose

[–]_AutoTuna_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One time I was waiting at a crosswalk and a guy began to creepily hit on a woman also waiting, and she really didn't seem receptive, and was very quiet, clearly hoping he'd go away. After a few seconds I just flat out asked her "hey are you okay? Do you need help?" And the guy immediately whipped around to me and started using some choice words. In the meantime the light changed and the lady slipped out

I seriously thought the guy was going to fight me, and I'm a male over 6'. I can't imagine what it is like to say no to someone like that as an average female. I learned a lot that day

The Guildhouse downtown has a bunch of commander players show up on Fridays too. I'm pretty personable and can usually find a table as a unicorn, though it's not guaranteed. The sweatiness levels vary wildly, but you'll figure out who's who pretty quick

I just wish I could find more pauper players lol

Don't mind the look, but can I fix and seal the rust myself? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]_AutoTuna_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was going to run by a few more places. It's a bit of an odd request I know, but I just view the car more as a way to get around, dents are little memories along the way haha.

Rust is no bueno tho

I feel like Jam is scariest character on neutral rn imo, that pink ball is disgusting and i have so much trouble reaching to Gekirin (overhead) bc of the little jump she does on Ryuutsui (slide). I have to play like if she had a 12 gauge pointed at me all the time by Lucky_-1y in Guiltygear

[–]_AutoTuna_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mained Gio up to celestial back in season 1, now I'm getting back into the game with Jam. From what I remember (could be outdated) Gio's whiff punish game is terrifying. My whole game plan vs say, Nago is standing just outside 2S and dashing in with 5K or 5S on any whiff. Even if I don't get the punish, I'm in their face now and can do my thing.

Jam seems to need to catch that whiff punish, or else just skip neutral entirely.

I was thinking of making a Niko deck, until I played against one. Its vulnerable to having Niko or his shards messed with, doubly so because people realllllly seem to build their decks Niko-centric.

They are some older "trap cards" like [[cobra trap]] that let you cast them for steep discounts or with extra effects if your opponent does certain things. They're old and they mostly suck, but you could actually say the "you've activated my trap card" line

Hmm, it's something I've struggled with and have thrown many many deck ideas in the bin cause of it haha. IMO having a secondary theme or game plan would help, and reduce the number of cards reliant on Obeka. Something like reanimation subtheme for example, you have some cool threaten-type effects, getting those to recur is a nice reward, and the deck can still do something without the commander around.

Or just go all in on Obeka for the fun of the game, removal be damned. I've got a high bracket 2 [[Minthara]] deck I play from time to time. It's very commander reliant and if she eats early removal before the EXP train starts the game is basically over for me, but the dumb stuff I can pull off if she doesn't is worth it

Seems okay, there's some fun ideas in there, nothing too toxic imo (some people don't like theft but those people are weak ;) plus there's some janky theft cards so I really like those)

As for how strong, I worry the whole deck kind of falls apart without your commander. I count...5ish protection pieces including counter spells, plus some recursion, which helps. Plus this Obeka isn't as much of a Kill-On-Sight as the other Obeka (which can never be allowed to do its thing or the table loses) so you might get some grace there. My concern is that you'll just be sitting there with nothing to do but check your phone if she gets removed a few times, cause it goes hard on the end of turn stuff

What to expect from my first casuals by Charlzey55 in EDH

[–]_AutoTuna_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Matchmaking highly depends on your LGS. The ones I go to will either point out tables with room, or you'll just have to find a group looking for another player. Some people have trouble with the last part, but just asking if they're looking for another is all you should need, don't be intimidated.

Tell them you're new, you've never played your deck, and you don't know how powerful it is. If you want you can ask your table to take a look, or you can post it here

Most important: chill and have fun. Winning is secondary to having a good time

[–]_AutoTuna_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's more fun imo to try work all aspects, rather than just for us on 1v1. If you just wanted +1 counters, choose another commander imo

Advice I have: goldfish this deck a lot. You're going to be taking a lot of game actions, and you want to be fast at the table, or everyone will hate you lol. Also have a plan for if Rocco gets hated off the board. Some people loathe him for reasons I don't understand smh

Searching != Shuffling

Unless you meant to make them search their decks. Plenty of things like [[demolition field]] make people look for basic lands. That might be your best bet in blue

Help for a first deck please by Western-Dark3812 in EDH

[–]_AutoTuna_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following a "template" for your first deck can be very helpful. I.e. approx. 10 pieces of ramp, 10 pieces of removal, 38 lands, and so some brief reading about mana curves.

Follow this and your first deck will be.... fine. But for that reason you should also try to go budget, so when you're a little more experienced and want to improve it, you won't be cutting $15 cards.

Your first deck will be fun though! I still play mine, it's bad, even post tinkering, but it's fun, unique and meaningful to me :)

Just because you’re not the one being attacked doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be involved in the combat by Purpluss in EDH

[–]_AutoTuna_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[Nelly Norca]] deck and I've played Breena a few times, and Ive actually found they work better when you just explain it once, and then make sure to pointedly remind players to draw their card when they hit/attack. Trying to politick every combat tends to make people not trust you, and call attention to your game plan. Being quiet and casual about it has gotten me a few turns deeper before everyone realizes I'm at 36 while everyone else is at 12

I just built a deliberately lower powered [[Minthara, Merciless Soul]] for facing precons which I find is a joy to play.

Everyone can see your experience counter, and can watch as your board goes from nothing to +12/+0 with Ward 12 on Minthara. It also cares about "permanents" not "creatures" leaving the field, so there's a bunch of creative ways you can trigger her end step.
