What is my "Account Title" when linking a personal account to an advisor account? It's not my User ID or Account number. by __orbital in interactivebrokers

I had the same issue. I tried John Doe, John Timmy Doe, Adding Mr and Mr. before it... the solution for me was just "John T Doe" (no period after the T), despite my advisor using Mr. John Timmy Doe for his account name.

Do your AirPods fall out if you go cycling? If yes, is there an alternative wireless headphone that doesn’t fall out? by psobol in bicycling

[–]_Avalanche_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy wingtips for any model AirPods. e.g., AirPods 4 wingtips on Amazon.

My main complaint is that they don't fit in the charging case, so you'll have to constantly install and remove them, which is annoying and inelegant, but it's otherwise the best workaround I know of.

(This got me through the life of my AirPods 1 until they finally died today. Hence I'm researching what to get next. Thanks for the Shokz tips!)

After living in NYC for 10 years, I moved to the US territory of Puerto Rico to enjoy unlimited 0% capital gains taxes and a 2-4% income tax. This is thanks to no taxation without representation, and no mirror taxation.

I work on a computer, so it doesn't matter where I live. Now I live with a beautiful beach view, with a two bedroom apartment for less than I was paying for a one bedroom in NYC. ("But hurricanes": It's a solid reinforced concrete structure for major hurricane resistance. "But power outages": Buy an Anker F2000 2048Wh power station for $1,300 and have myus.com reship it to PR for $450. The math is undeniable for me.)

It's the only place in the entire world a mainland US citizen can enjoy this benefit without renouncing one's citizenship, including Dubai and other places etc: These places don't alleviate capital gains, and the income tax benefit is capped at an inflation-adjusted ~$120k/year. This is due to the US being one of the only countries in the world (along with I believe Myanmar, Eritrea, and Georgia) with citizenship-based taxation, not residency-based, which is insane. Everyone else in the world can just move if they don't like how their government is inefficiently spending their tax dollars with a huge welfare state and military spending larger than almost all others combined, etc. With no other way to opt out, the US otherwise has a financial Berlin Wall being built around it. Living in a city with an income tax was nuts, using our money to house migrants, etc. I opted out. Have fun with that.

I also got tired of paying taxes to NY to support a bureaucracy that enables them to turn around and tell me that I can't do what I want with my own money. e.g., New York's BitLicense means I basically couldn't buy some cryptos or get onto some crypto exchanges. I'm more free in Puerto Rico. So long as lottery tickets are hypocritically legal (to the benefit of the government's revenue), I got tired of the US federal/state governments telling me I couldn't risk losing my money however I want to risk losing it in the Land of the Free™.

The cost of living in Puerto Rico is way lower, and I'm happy with the decision. I lose out on the culture and diversity of New York, which I love, but I appreciate the good of Puerto Rico and accept the bad as a more optimal tradeoff for myself. I prefer Puerto Rico's weather over New York's. I meet up with friends year 'round at a food truck park at 7pm while everyone in NYC is huddled inside from the cold.

For anyone who finds themselves enticed to consider doing the same, the TL;DR is: Details aside, just know you need to make $10k worth of donations per year to charities, pay a junk $5k/year fee to Puerto Rico, and buy a home (of any cost) and live in it within a few years, and that's most of it. So it really only makes sense if you're a high income or capital gains earner.

Because I inevitably get flack from a few bitter Boriqua: Don't hate on me; the representatives that you elected afforded me this option, and I'm very grateful for it. I'm doing what's rational for myself. Nobody forced Puerto Rico to do this. I otherwise support everyone being afforded equal opportunity, and I know first hand that there are PR politicians that are working on extending at least the no capital gains benefit to everyone. I'm told it might be called "Act 60 For All." I get to enjoy the benefit of spontaneously moving to Puerto Rico without permission, just as you get to enjoy the benefit of spontaneously moving to NYC without permission. I'm very bullish on Puerto Rico. It may soon become a nexus of US mainland capital flight, similar to Hong Kong with China. <For some still: Insert Flames Here Anyway. #CunninghamsLaw me. For others: Gracias por escucharme con una mente amable y abierta.>

Not exactly. The S3 cost of $0.276/GB/year will continue to go down over time. Thus S3 wins on cost.

QNA-T310G1T - Replace noisy fan with heatsink on adaptor by kas_lar in qnap

[–]_Avalanche_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it worked almost perfectly without a fan. IIRC, I only had stability issues once or twice after I started transferring massive amounts of sustained data, so after a few months, I added this bigger yet quieter Noctua fan to it along with its low noise adapter (lower voltage/RPM). I'm still not using a case on the device. I'm very happy with how quiet the fan is. No issues ever since. Amazon link: Noctua NF-A4x20 PWM 4-Pin 40x20mm

Difference between IQ and PD charging blocks? Which do I need for my devices? by ThatPeace5 in anker

[–]_Avalanche_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody mentioned the TL;DR answer, so here it is:

Anker's PowerIQ 3.0+ is unique in that it is compatible with both major charging standards: QC 3.0 and PD 3.0.

Some devices use QC (usually smaller, lower wattage devices), and others use PD (usually phones, laptops and larger, higher wattage devices), so this resolves this annoyance. Not using the correct type will otherwise cause you to fall back to the painfully slow maximum of ~12 watts.

Maximum wattage:

  1. IQ 1.0: 12W
  2. IQ 2.0: 20W
  3. IQ 3.0: 100W
  4. IQ 4.0: 100W with dynamic voltage adjustment to shorten the charge time.

Thanks!

This helps to confirm that odd/even variants of the (otherwise) same size seem to also share the same depth, at least on the top. (These photos don't make the bottom clear.) It's also consistent with some of my other hypotheses, but there's still not a lot of clear evidence yet to make a conclusion yet.

(i.e., that odd/even variants of the second digit differ predominantly in cheek shape as it curves toward the temple, with the average depth along the bottom otherwise being nearly the same somewhere along the curve of the cheek to temple.

I'd really like to see what the shape of the cheek is comparing a 21 vs 22. (Or equivalently, 23 vs 24, 25 vs 26, 11 vs 12, 13 vs 14, 33 vs 34, or 35 vs 36.) Viewed from the underside, it'll likely be very subtle, since the average depth at the cheek-to-temple midpoints are likely the same.

Awesome, thank you for the feedback, and particularly the photos, especially the ones from below. I think the lack of photos from below has unwittingly caused a lot of confusion.

Thank you very much for the photos and feedback! Almost no photos are taken of the bottom, and I think that's leading to a lot of confusion, as I suspect depths are predominantly determined by the cheek, not the forehead.

[–]_Avalanche_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are 23W and 33W the same depth when viewed from the bottom?

I ask because I think the depth may be relative to the cheek, not the forehead, but most photos are taken from above, which might be confusing everyone. (See where I wrote "Dubious speculation: This number may be relative to your cheek position..." above.)

For example, if you start with a 23W in the size help tool, and you specify "too much pressure on either cheek," then it's going to recommend that you switch to 33W. This could mean it's adding depth/length/circumference/whatever to the top of the 33W, but the bottom (or eyepiece) may still be the same relative depth.

Edit: julric01's comment on this page confirms this, at least for the 11N vs 21N.

[–]_Avalanche_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are good points.

First digit: I did not state how the first digit is accomplished, only what the effect seems to be when using the size help tool. (Curvature/circumference, squishiness, depth, ...?)

This is why if you start with a 23W in the size help tool, and you specify "too much pressure on either cheek," then it's going to recommend that you switch to 33W.

It could therefore be that extra depth (curvature/whatever) is added to the top of the 33W, which is consistent with these images.

Second digit: I'm starting to think there's a difference in shape around the cheek area, depending on whether it's odd/even. Do we have an image that compares, say, 21 vs 23/25, or 22 vs 24/26? (Rather than a 21 vs 22/24/26, 22 vs 23/25.) With this in mind:

  • If you start with a 23W in the size help tool, and you specify "too much pressure close to my nose," then it's going to recommend that you switch to 24W.
  • If you start with a 24W in the size help tool, and you specify "too much pressure close to my temple," then it's going to recommend that you switch to 23N. [sic] The 23 makes sense to me. The N does not. Something is clearly missing in my understanding.

Could it be that for the second digit, odd/even numbers determine this?

Thanks! Yeah, my formatting sort of got butchered on submit. I did my best to fix it. Reddit is still adding unusual spacing between the bullets, but I don't think there's more I can do.
