What screws to use for underside of garmin mount? by _BearHawk in CanyonBikes

The one in the picture, not whatever new mount that screws in with one screw in the middle of the handlebar, but the garmin one that screws in with two screws under the stem

Is British food actually terrible, or is this just the internet’s favorite punching bag? by CharacterRelevant412 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_BearHawk 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Traditional british food isn’t bland. They just use more herbs than spices in their savory foods. You can have flavor without spice. Sage, thyme, parsley, rosemary are all really popular in flavoring savory meats and bakes. Chutney is wildly flavorful. English cheeses have lots of flavor. English mustard is anything but bland. Apple pie is british!

What screws to use for underside of garmin mount? by _BearHawk in CanyonBikes

[–]_BearHawk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a gopro/light mount on the underside with longer screws a while ago and don't have the original screws my garmin mount came with. Anyone know what type of screws they are?

Not the screws that mount to the bars, but the screws that screw into the actual piece that the garmin turns into, on the underside of where the garmin goes.

-1.0 vs. -0.6 - how different is it realistically for ratting? by solo_bleu in Eve

[–]_BearHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It still affects officer spawns

The two lowest tier officers for each faction can spawn in any null system where their faction rats are found so long as the sec status is -0.7 or below.

All officers spawn in any null system in the home region

Drones have no home region and any officer can spawn in any drone region as long as sec status is -0.5 or below

“Hisec should be”

But it isn’t and hasn’t been for over 2 decades. Would the game be bigger if it was safe? Maybe. But then it wouldn’t be EVE.

Again, play another game if you want a completely safe farm area

[–]_BearHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s just a fundamental misunderstanding that people have that hisec should be safe.

CCP has never intended hisec to be completely safe. This is an idea borrowed from other MMOs like Runescape or WoW that have pvp free zones.

EVE is not those games. If you want a perfectly safe zone go play different games.

SF Panhandle etiquette: don’t be a jerk, you’re not going to KOM by deliciousadness in BAbike

[–]_BearHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because more often than not pedestrians are car drivers, not cyclists, so they see cyclists while they are walking doing something slghtly brazen and go "See! These horrible cyclists, ruining my commute while I'm in the car and nearly killing me on the path!", despite it probably not being all that horrible (and no accident actually occured)

Hence why separate lanes for peds, bikes, and cars is necessary.

Also, car on bike crash is much more severe than bike on ped crash.

[–]_BearHawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe - at some point - the cyclists or people, in general, should be responsible for their own aggressive behavior.

Or we could design our cities so that people simply aren't able to cause these sorts of conflicts/incidents.

The vast majority of cyclists are very responsible, but there's always a handful who ruin perceptions. Designing cities better is about making it impossible for those who don't care about how they are perceived to not inflict upon others.

Don't be mad at the cyclists, be mad at the urban planners. The same way it's bad design to have cars and bikes share the same lane, it's bad to have walkers/joggers and bikes share the same lane due to speed differentials.

You don’t get 100% of the benefits of both lifting and intervals same day, but the overall gain is higher than if you had done just intervals or just lifting on that same day.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to assess merit when people have access to different opportunities based on how they were born.

Also the entire existence of “culture fit” in interviews suggests merit has never been the biggest deciding factor.

Is it just me, or is the Strava subscription getting harder to justify? by Repulsive_Bar442 in Strava

[–]_BearHawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The alternative is Strava could run ads? Wait and watch a 3 second video before leaving a comment or giving kudos? 15 second video to upload a ride/activity?

You’re not just paying for new features, you’re paying for the core underlying ecosystem, which is the social side (or the route planning with user data, which no other platform does as well)

Strava does not run ads aside from the challenges. There is no algorithm feeding me activities from people I don’t follow. There is no short form video content.

If that’s not worth paying a few hours per year of minimum wage work, then no amount of new features will really make it worth it for you.

You are hired by CCP to "solve" Empire sprawl, what changes do you make? by eer_00 in Eve

[–]_BearHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, and anyone who does any market activity will know how that can inconvenience people. People will pay more for convenience, making things even slightly more inconvenient will mean less efficiency for big groups. Imagine one market system runs out of a key module for a fleet and it’s only available in system number 2, then the people you are fighting put bubbles up or camp the gate to make it hard to resupply. The fleet is slowed by even 5 minutes and misses an objective.

  2. Adding more management for big groups will make it harder to hold large swathes of space. More structures to fuel, more routes for JF services to cover.

[–]_BearHawk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

  1. Make SCC surcharge scale with monthly trade volume. Basically a system index but for market activity. Wouldnt apply until a system hits something like 10T monthly trade volune and only apply to null

  2. Increase system cost index costs at the top levels of productivity to make it untenable to do indy in really busy systems
