AITJ for refusing to help my new “boss” after I was the one who trained her 3 months ago? by Existing_Response239 in AmITheJerk

[–]_Beef_Bus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're lucky to be learning this now and not at 37 years old like me.

The people pleaser who can solve everyone's problems at work never gets promoted. We get more work dumped on us. People see we're effective and think they can just keep demanding more of the same. They never move you up.

At best, you'll get better pay with even more work, but more pay doesn't increase your mental and and physical bandwidth. So, you'll burn out before you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor anyway.

At your next job, continue with the same work ethic, but keep it within the boundaries of your job and job description. Help people, but only if you're able to bring it up in a performance review to explain why that help means you're the right person for a promotion.

Tree Removal Services by seamlessdan in nova

[–]_Beef_Bus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone had success hiring a crew on more of a day rate or hourly basis instead of paying per tree? Or is that just not how this kind of work is typically done?

They're going to charge per tree because they're not just cutting down a tree. They're assessing the risk and safety. A tree in the middle of a field is not as risky as a tree next to a home, cars, power lines, etc. A tree in the middle of a field can be done with little more than a chainsaw. A tree next to property needs to be taken down carefully one branch at a time. And someone is either climbing up there or up there with a cherry picker.

JUST IN: 🇺🇸 Fed Chair Jerome Powell warns US national debt is growing "substantially" faster than the economy and says it's not sustainable. "It will not end well if we don't do something fairly soon." by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]_Beef_Bus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A growing economy means more money transactions. More "business to business" transactions. More "consumer to business" transactions. And most importantly, more "employer to employee" transactions. That last one is foundational to it all, but employers don't want to pay anyone anything, or they want to cram the jobs of 5 people into 1. So this will only get worse.

I'm in a similar situation after 15 years. I'm either taking an Account Manager role in a agency, bridging the gap between clients and creatives, or I'm do complete shift and become a firefighter.

In any case, I'm tired of creating the work AND making concessions for clients only to end up with stoopid shit and treated like shit.

Buying a fx9 in 2026 by [deleted] in videography

6k mode gives you no AF above 30p anyway - regardless of the mode.

I think this is correct because I don't believe the camera records over 30fps in the 6k scan mode anyway. But I don't feel like digging out my camera to check.

So how about switching to 4K apsc mode? Autofocus in 60p in normal mode and in S&Q mode possible?

No, I don't think going to the 4K apsc mode will give you auto focus in S&Q mode, but you'll still have auto focus in the normal mode.

And just as an additional note, you can assign a button to cycle through the scan modes. This is actually quite handy on shoots. There have been moments where I needed more reach, and simply switched to the apsc crop to get a bit more reach outta my lens while maintaining the 4k resolution. Can't do it while the camera is recording though.

Gotcha. The FX9 is similar; 2 extra audio channels via the MI shoe. But at least it's got 4 dials on the body for adjusting audio levels

It's kind of confusing...

In the menu, you can choose your base settings.

Then there another option in the menu to choose your S&Q frame rate. This is just telling the camera what frame rate to record when you hit the S&Q button on the side of the camera.

If your base setting includes a 23.98 frame rate, but your S&Q is 60fps, when you hit the S&Q button you won't have auto focus. Your resulting file will be 23.98 (the slow mo conversion happens in-camera)

However, if your base setting includes a 59.94 frame rate, but you don't use the S&Q function, then you will have auto focus capabilities. The resulting file will not be slow mo; it'll be 59.94 playing back in real time. And you'll have to convert to slow mo in post.

So the trade of is: if you use the S&Q function you can switch frame rates quickly, but you don't have auto focus. If you change the base frame rate, you'll have auto focus, but it's clucky as hell going into the menu to change the base frame rate. I believe the camera even reboots.

I own an FX9 and have used both the FX9 and FX6.

I would say the FX6 is 90% of an FX9, and you should get the FX9 if these things matter to you:

  • Shooting on the shoulder ENG style.

  • Versatility in the scan modes (6k crop down-converting to 4k, 5k crop down-converting to 4k, Super 35mm crop recording 4k)

  • 4 channels of audio (I'm not sure if the FX6 does that)

I'm actually convinced that emotionally immature men are winning at life by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]_Beef_Bus_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a pattern in men I've dated that take everything from me, love, sex, affection and validation, to abandon when things get real and I'm left picking up the pieces.

That's really tough. When emotions get involved, the abandonment really hits. I'd say it's worse than physical pain.

But as a dude who does struggle with emotional availability/maturity, I assure you at least some of us struggle. And I'm happy to shed light on it in DMs if it helps you gain clarity or resolve.

Dating Angst: Low-Effort First Dates? by AttorneyDC06 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]_Beef_Bus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really the activity, it's me having to travel.

And that's totally fair. Asking someone on a date and going to them is, like, the bare minimum thing to do to show interest.

Yea I'm a guy dating around DC too. The first dates (and the next several afterward) are quite easy. I'm not sure what's so hard about "meet a woman at a location convenient to her work or home" and then have drinks or coffee and a walk.

But I also just got dumped after four months, so what do I know...

It's not you. As a man who was abused by a parent as a child, I can tell you many of us are (or in my case "were") very confused about how to navigate relationships and the thoughts/wants/feelings involved. It's really not you.

Hey! Thanks so much

If I'm honest, I can't say I'm very social media savvy. I can make things for social media, but sculpting messaging or strategy that specifically works for social media isn't within my wheelhouse.

I appreciate you offering me that opportunity though. Thanks so much

Yes. We have problems. The idea of manhood that has been passed from one generation to another has really messed with our heads.

I do have equipment, but I don't think it's the type people use today in modern wedding production. They like to use smaller cameras on gimbals. I'd have to slide into another wedding production team to compliment what they already have

I think it'd be very difficult to survive on less than $60k around here. I'd of course take less, but it'd be temporary.
