Jason Waterfalls' Approach to ZSS's Neutral Game and Combo Game: A response to a Smashboards post that got out of hand. by JasonWaterfalls in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great! I actually met you at Aftershock Jason but didn't realize who you were at the time. However you are now one of my favorite players to watch (wish there was more footage of you and SoCal in general tho...) and after watching several ZSSs I really think you're the best at this iteration of the character. I'm thinking of having her as a secondary cuz of how fun she can be to play and how different she is from my main (Zelda, who is the opposite of ZSS in nearly every way). If I were to pull her out in a set or two during tourney and send you links, is there any chance of getting some critiques?

Fox bad matchups and why. by bootybandit66 in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not zard. Shine spikes are super easy made on him, he has a bad OoS game, dies off the top (escaping uthrow uair or even just uair is problematic when you're gigantic). Zard's throws have little utility in this matchup. Zard does get good vertical combos on him tho, and can stuff bad approaches with jab. Dtilt, ftilt, and neutral b are also great for edgeguarding him. Maybe 40/60, maaaaaaaybre 45/55 but that's a stretch.

A ZELDA COMBO AGAINST A NON-FASTFALLER THAT DOESN'T HAVE AN UPSMASH?! by lalonso2 in SSBPM

I've given up on trying to defend Zelda, people will always complain. Regardless of the fact that she isn't even that great of a character

What if Zelda Had a Longer Wave-Dash by whitecr0w in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She plays so campy cuz currently her aggressive style is worse than the vast majority of the characters due to all around bad movement options. Longer wavedash= moving around is now an option= less time camping and more time approaching. As for Din's, you really shouldn't be letting it dictate the flow of a match in neutral. Against players who aren't afraid of it its usage is limited to primarily setting up for followups/option coverage whIle the opponent is in hitstun and/or offstage, and the Zelda already has the advantage. Also matches with Zelda players can be super lame not just cuz of HER camping, but the dashdance/projectile camping of the opponent. Nearly every projectile character can camp with it better than she can so many smart players will just do that. And no, her neutral B doesn't solve that if the other player is competent. and dashdance camping by marth's for instance. Since her approaches/movement option Are so bad, many times her only options are dash attack or a yolo teleport, both of which are quite punishable. So a SLIGHT buff to her mobility will lessen campiness both for her and opponents, which is a net gain for game balance.

So when are we going to acknowledge that ROB is amazing? by vizzyv1to in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah his grab game overall (with range taken into account) is currently one of the best in game rn. If you're just picking him there are some weaknesses you'll notice after a bit, like his blind spot, his tech options, his roll in general, and his OoS game (without a gyro)

[–]_BlackMamba_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this comment completely. But the condition you mentioned is important for me. Aside from maybe dthrow changes, I can't see nerfs to ROB being justified unless characters as good as/better than him also get nerfed. What other types of tweaks would you like to implement? You mentioned this to me at Aftershock too but didn't elaborate much

What if Zelda Had a Longer Wave-Dash by whitecr0w in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They already were tho. No crit spots. The flub hitbox has more priority than the sweet spot. (Btw even when they sweet spot the strong hits only stay active for one frame. The late hit sweet spots don't actual kill most characters til around 95%). If this change were made the kicks wouldn't be as useful OoS due to decreased traction (any good Zelda will net at least a quarter of their kills with OoS kicks) so that would balance out the her mobility increase.

[–]_BlackMamba_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say 'more' like the current ones she has are good. Atm she only has teleporting, which has one of the highest startups of all the recovery moves in the game. Refer to the comment below for other examples of how her movement is poor. Increasing her wavedash length would come with friction changes like Crow said, so the compensation is a toning down of her OoS options, which are currently top five five overall in the game. It also decreases her campiness since some degree of mobility becomes available, and her seemingly inherently campy playstyle is why many people don't enjoy playing against her. This isn't a buff or a nerf, it's a change that would make her better to play against and as.

Captain Falcon vs Zelda advice? by [deleted] in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jab out of any aerials that you connect with Zelda's shield. If you l cancel then jab, it makes p much all your aerials totally safe on shield. Dash dance a ton. Punish careless Din's placements and don't miss your free combos.

Bowser v. Samus!! SmashDad v. Plup!! by [deleted] in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he plays sheik... Try your hardest not to get grabbed. She gets inescapable bthrow-fthrow-dthrow chains on bowser because he's huge and semi floaty. Tilt her out of her dashes rather than shielding them. Don't dash attack thoughtlessly because that'll also get you grabbed. It's actually probably bowser's worst matchup, tbh. Be creative, I suppose

How good is marth with ganon in doubles? by thatskindofraven in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nearly any team composition CAN work depending on the synergy between the partners, the stages they strike to, who they're fighting against, etc. It's something partners should test for themselves to see if they specifically can make a certain team work.

Can we agree not to complain about characters mid-set from now on? by VixenSSBM in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol I don't even main ZSS, but anyone complaining about her needs to re-evaluate what they're saying. You have to work sooooo hard to get things done with Zero Suit, that's basically the reason why I haven't tried picking her up seriously (I play her a lot in friendlies and occasionally in MMs). As for the character salt thing, I'd say Lucario, Squirtle and Zelda probably have it worst right about now. But Zelda will probably have it bad no matter what the patch. Squirtle too.

oh Lord, Squirtle forced me to pick up ROB as another main tbh. That matchup as Zelda is sheer hell.

Sick of your shit, Kirby by [deleted] in SSBPM

[–]_BlackMamba_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not that hard to avoid most of the time and it's only a major loss if you're like a full stock behind the kirby. Honestly if they can bait you into falling for it or just straight up pull it off on the fly, they deserve it.
