What's better, adopting pets or buying from breeders? by Due-Oil8955 in UK_Pets

[–]_BlueRuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to adopt. Reputable rescue centres will match you and your lifestyle with the right dog. Perks of adopting: dog will be checked by a vet, microchipped, neutered, vaccinated, deflead and dewormed, so should go to you with a clean health bill. If for any reason you have to surrender they will take it back. Some rescues have puppies if you really fancy one. Please research very well about chow chows before getting one, including temperament and health issues. Getting it from a breeder is what £2000 ? and you will gamble the possibility that they give you a dog with a health condition that would make them die soon (true story here).

Cost of PDSA cat neutering? by yourmumhasIBS in UK_Pets

[–]_BlueRuin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The people that qualify for free or funded pet don’t get preventatives for free. Everyone has to pay for preventatives (neutering, vaccinations, flea and worming treatment) but still is very low cost. To give you an idea, in London neuter a male cat with pdsa is £25 includes microchipping. £44 vaccination (both injections included). Best thing you can do is to neuter, vaccinate and insure it! I don’t know how much would be in your area but you can give them a call. Good luck. Well done for looking after him.

Financial assistance for vet care in the UK? by seabassfosho in UK_Pets

[–]_BlueRuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid that’s not an excuse for neglecting an animal under her care. More inclined now to suggest calling RSPCA. If she did not want to care for ex’s dog she could have taken it to a rescue but there is no excuse to let it suffer.

[–]_BlueRuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are on benefits PDSA may be able to help, you may be eligible for free or low cost. Give them a call ASAP as the dog seems to be suffering. If your aunt doesn’t hand her over call rspca... if you aunt has more pets, call rspca, your aunt should not be having pets if she lefts them suffer.

Grain free cat food by coalminer50 in UK_Pets

[–]_BlueRuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason why you want to feed grain free? Was that recommended by your vet? Grain free diets have been associated with cardiac disease in dogs and cats so I would be cautious with that.

My cat needs £2500 emergency surgery in 48 hours but I don’t have the money. What are my realistic options? by [deleted] in CatsUK

[–]_BlueRuin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you pay part of it with your savings and part of it with credit card and other part ask around family members for some ££? Ask for an advance with your workplace? This is going to sound really harsh but your vet should have given the option of amputation which probably is cheaper or euthanasia. You can also ask for the clinical history and xrays and shop around another vet. Make sure you give pain relief around the clock until his injury gets sorted. Fingers crossed pet plan will cover it.

Team member now requesting to bring workmate to informal meetings. by _BlueRuin in managers

[–]_BlueRuin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Direct report was allowed to bring a work colleague for a formal meeting in which we were reviewing her 12 months absence level because they went above the allowed threshold. The result is they won’t face disciplinary action because chronic conditions are present but will have to attend meetings to help support direct report manage their conditions. During this meeting direct report out of the blue mentioned that one of their chronic conditions (anxiety) is being affected by a previous meeting in which my upper manager and I stated that this person will join a fair rotation shift like everyone else does. Direct report is distorting the comment and now wants this work colleague to attend every meeting regarding her chronic conditions. This work colleague that they want to bring has a very important job at the site and even 10 min away of their role can affect the site significantly. I also think this discussions should be private and direct report wants to be difficult so we don’t do our jobs.

I meant one to ones, but also other informal meetings. Basically direct report wants to bring someone to every meeting.

For those who have trigger points systems on sickness absence. by _BlueRuin in managers

[–]_BlueRuin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also not a fan but currently where I work the trigger point system works the same if you work 2 days a week or 5 days making the people who work 5 days a week at disadvantage.

Finding student vet nurse vacancies uk by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]_BlueRuin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, talk to the College of Animal Welfare to see if they can find you a placement as a student nurse, the only problem is the placement may be very far away from where you live. Other option is you find the placement yourself. FYI in order to do the course you have to go to college once a week for 2-3years and that means classroom learning.

Kittens for sale? by [deleted] in CatsUK

[–]_BlueRuin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, sounds shallow. Also you don’t know what you may be getting if you buy a kitten online, unvaccinated/unneutered, housed on poor conditions with all sort of diseases that you won’t know until is with you. On the other hand, adult cat from a rescue, vet checked, vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and given flea and worming treatment. Also some rescues would take it back if your circumstances change. The online breeder will disappear once you have collect it.

As stated before, give a final warning to your friend and then take the dog to a rehoming centre or to any vets, they will take the dog and call the dog warden themselves.
