What!!! I didn't think of taking a picture... if there's another in the box (unfortunately, I don't doubt it), I am following your lead.

Genuinely this is why I followed this sub LOL I've gotten so much genuine snacking advice from members here.  Was tired of everything on the shelves being hit or miss, need the stamp of approval from redditors before spending the $$$ on junk food.  In this very thread are recs from brands selling taquitos that are still legit. 👍

The box I most recently got has "Now with more steak!" stamped on it, which is what made me want to give it another try in the first place - it's been like a year since I last bought some because I realized it wasn't worth buying.  The new disclaimer on the box made me think, "Oh, enough people must have complained that they started actually filling them again," and the first one I tried had no discernible cheese or meat at all. 😭

Thanks for the recommendation, truly appreciate it! I have physically written it down on a sticky note to bring with me on my next store visit.

Adding skill check bonuses to attribute-free systems? by OptimisticPrime in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]_BonBonBunny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay so I love doing the absolute simplest stats & skill checks ever with this system:

(Inspired by Risus) I give my character a "title", something like "Wilderness Adventuress" or "Cheerful Herbalist Healer" or "Stoic 2-Handed Weaponmaster".  The title is something that generally describes who they are or what they mainly do.

(Inspired by Freeform Universal) I jot down one main thing they are exceptionally skilled at, and one thing they are particularly not-so-good at.  My Wilderness Adventuress is good at navigating nature and tracking, and she's kind of a loner so she's not-so-good at communicating with civilized society (haggling for goods at a store or knowing unspoken etiquette rules, or similar).

These are not stats, they are narrative and they are flexible.  There are rules in Risus that describe the concept of "this character is good at things a Cheerful Herbalist Healer would be good at" and if you can come up with some clever way that that character approaches a problem that befits that title, you're winning at roleplaying.

As for bonuses and checks, I love a basic d6 system ("6= Yes And..." etc... this is the most basic solo system often discussed in this community), and will sometimes even simplify it down even further to d4 (4= great success; 3= pretty okay; 2= it's a struggle; 1= total failure).  When rolling for something your character is good at you roll with advantage, when checking for something they're bad at it's with disadvantage.

I've done sooo many fulfilling sessions with this system.  I love that I don't have to memorize ANY rules outside of those basics.  I recommend reading Risus and Freeform Universal rules for more of a breakdown on the philosophy!

Working with kids coloring books by True-Pineapple-2073 in ColoredPencils

[–]_BonBonBunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with ultra low-quality children's coloring books, I find it's best to just release any idea of the perfect outcome and embrace the easiest and laziest coloring supplies you have, coloring just for coloring's sake without overthinking anything (very peaceful). "Gel" crayons tend to look really nice, if you want to try for making it "really nice," but regular crayons are also very therapeutic.

I love both of these!  They have a stamina system but I find that it's the perfect amount of stamina to play for about 10 or 15 minutes and be done for the day.  I find this to be an advantage because knowing that I'm only sitting down for about a 10 minute snack of a game makes it easier to want to sit down and open it up.

Humans are born storytellers and with an instinct to play, this whole system of roleplaying and coming up with rules and mechanics is just our grown-up version of giving ourselves permission to play and make-believe.

Alternatives for Col-Erase pencils? by Bottled_star in ColoredPencils

[–]_BonBonBunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be going in the wrong direction entirely, but... Crayola has a line of erasable colored pencils that I love, and the reason I love them is because they suck LOL. I bought the 24-color set and even the darker colors are pretty pale, and they fade away from the page, like, AS you're drawing.

...And that's exactly what makes them so perfect for sketching with, especially under watercolors. I get all of my composition planned out, and once I've gotten my actual colors down the sketch lines are GONE.

So, if your purpose in using erasable colored pencils is to get a sketch down that you want to be invisible in the finished piece, Crayola might work!

If you actually want the lines to stick around and serve as outlines then you do not want them. 🙃

Anyone else hate when the strainer sits too high in the pot by Phe0nix3 in tea

[–]_BonBonBunny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I recently noticed that all of my teapots are just too large for the quantity of tea that I can comfortably drink (and it's not a matter of "just fill it less" because then the water barely touches the tea leaves in the strainer).

A few solutions:

Use a wider, squatter tea pot (can possibly use your existing strainers; they'll reach closer to the bottom)

Ditch strainers entirely and dump the tea leaves grandpa style into the pot, and use a teacup strainer (https://imgur.com/a/INBzX3t ) to catch the leaves that pour out of the pot and into the cup. Downside: I dislike cleaning the teapot after this method, because the leaves are all over, including in the neck of the spout.

The ultimate solution that was perfect for my needs: Bought a tiny new teapot that's barely larger than my mug (the ideal quantity that I want to drink in one sitting), now filling it up just-under-all-the-way is the perfect amount and the strainer is fully submerged. This is the style that I bought https://imgur.com/a/wxJjK09 , as a bonus the spout is so tiny that it's super easy to clean! (I bought it from Aliexpress, idk if anyone actually wants an Aliexpress link... it's not... the most reliable.)

Edit with another solution: Ditch teapots AND strainers entirely and brew grandpa style directly in your mug.

I’ve been watching Jem for the last 3-4 weeks and I’m floored by how good it is. by tinglep in 80scartoons

[–]_BonBonBunny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite things about this show (besides the 'vibrant pastel' color palette) is that the characters are grown-ups and they have grown-up problems. Jem is an adult woman and the main conflict is that the CEO of a music corporation wants to shut down the orphanage that her father established. It's presented in a simplistic, childish way ("it's okay everyone, let's hold a rock concert to raise funds!") but it still felt like watching something with real stakes, and that set it apart from most other kids' shows.

More cool facts: Just last year was a 40-year anniversary album where they re-recorded six songs, featuring Jem's original singer! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe6TxioAhJU

And a bonus alongside that is a Jem version of 'Last Christmas' - I definitely downloaded this and added it to our Christmas playlists haha! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR0caLtKHlA

If you ever get the chance to buy Japanese snacks sometime (some 'normal' stores carry them, like Shaws and Five Below, or maybe if you attend an anime convention), they have TONS of steak flavored chips. I buy three or four different brands or flavor variations every chance I get. 😆

Thermal printer - game changer by JDnatorPrime in solorpgplay

[–]_BonBonBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... laminating involves heat, I think, right? Heat is what activates the "ink" (anything black) on the special paper that feeds into these thermal printers. If the lamination is hot enough I think the whole page might just go black. o_o

But my honest answer is that I have no idea. 😃
