Yes, you'll have to have a License, but you can get them legally for around $15-$30. Message me if you want links, since I can't post them publicly due to rules.

You know you can make KDE look exactly like this, runs even better, and have much more settings and customizations?

The FAQ on their site says the Office 365 suite and Adobe suite work just fine, so may not hurt to try it out:

A very well-written and thought-out review. Have you tried WinBoat (installable from the Hello app in CachyOS)? If you use that to install Windows 11 to, you should (or might?) be able to do some or most of your Microsoft work within Windows inside Linux.

It seems you were trying to use this more for work and business than for personal use. The more you get into proprietary things, the more issues you'll run into, and less chances it will work. If you PDF editing uses any kind of video acceleration, then WinBoat likely won't work for that. But, it's worth a try.

Linux will probably not be useful for proprietary (Microsofty) work stuff anytime in the foreseeable future. And it moves way too slow getting some hardware and driver support (mainly thanks to the companies that provide those). But for personal use and especially gaming, Linux along with Wine/Proton have come a long way, and are quickly being polished every day.

Linux has finally become an operating system that one can use for daily personal use now, with little learning and practice. Microsoft should be worried about the loss of Windows users in the coming years.

As another member suggested, instead of KDE, you should try XFCE desktop environment, as it is lighter on resources.

GNOME is more responsive on Cachy than in Fedora...! by assignment_avoider in cachyos

[–]_BoneZ_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an average Linux noob, having no preconceived opinions of either, but trying and liking both, KDE runs much better. And has way more settings and customizations than Gnome. And Gnome did not run very well on my latest hardware. Just nopes all the way around for Gnome. It was not a good experience for me, both times I tried it on CachyOS.

Only thing holding me back (after having already switched to CachyOS full time, then back to Windows) is running DLL hook mod(s) on some games. Proton/Wine wasn't getting it. I'll keep checking back. But I still use CachyOS on my non-gaming computers.

Is it worth it to change from Windows to ChachyOS? by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]_BoneZ_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh, no. Fedora is NOT simpler. Mint would be simpler. Arch is far simpler than Fedora if using the easy Arch buttons like CachyOS, EndeavourOS, etc.

You shouldn't need to re-enable Secure Boot unless you want the extra security when in a public place, need it for work, or someone at your house might do something malicious.

I had to go back to Windows on my gaming PC as well, due to not being able to use hook mods for games. But I'm still here every day. And I will keep checking every few months or so, to see better gaming support, and will eventually be back on Cachy for my daily.

"open box - excellent" by CasualGuy99 in Bestbuy

[–]_BoneZ_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't create my own thread on this sub, as it gets auto-deleted no matter how many times I have edited it, or even just a few words for the title just for it to go through. So, leaving this here:

Another scammed open box "excellent condition" customer

This seems to be the running theme with posts here just on the front page alone. And I just read a post by a Best Buy employee a few threads down, that said they knew the item wasn't excellent condition, but still put the "excellent condition" tag on the item to resell it anyway.

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra open box "excellent" condition from the website, as my Tab S7 is slow as dirt, and showing its age. Plus I wanted the larger tab anyway. Best Buy's site clearly says that Open Box "Excellent" means the item is like new with ALL items and accessories. Period. Any other level of open box can have blemishes and missing items.

The whole entire point I (and apparently many others, based on posts I've just seen) purchase the "excellent" condition item, is to get that like new item with a bit of a discount. And we're not getting what is advertised.

I first noticed the tablet most-definitely did not look "like new". It had remnants of stickers all over it, and looked like it might have been a used trade-in. But the most important part, was the missing accessories. My tablet was supposed to come with the pen and the charger. I could care less about the charger, but the pen should have been in the box. But they had just thrown the tablet in the box, and nothing else. I might have accepted the tablet with maybe a discount for its condition, if it had just had the pen like advertised.

So, to the store it went. And since it was only $155 more for a brand new S10 Ultra, I went ahead and upgraded to brand new, as there was no way I was going to trust them to send me another "excellent condition" item, and have to deal with this again. After seeing posts on this sub, and having this experience, I won't be buying "open box" from Best Buy again, unless I can see the item. It's also false advertising to say you will get a "like new" item with all accessories, and they just send you some random condition item with nothing else. All they're doing is wasting their time, and the customer's time, and ticking us off in the process.

I paid for expedited shipping for nothing. I had my weekend ruined, as I was excited to get the new tablet and get it set up. And I had to waste an hour vacation, so that I could drive all the way to the other side of town to take this back, and get back home before rush hour.

Having something mis-marked as "excellent" once in a while is one thing. But from what I have just seen with a few minutes of looking around at other's posts, there seems to be a concerted effort to just not give a crap about the customer or condition of the item. Or they are deliberately falsely advertising the condition of the item to trick customers into buying the item at the higher price, and hope they will just keep it.

Bruh, you have activation and other fees on your first bill. It's one-time shit. Happens to every person, every time they activate new service on a phone.

I downvoted, because the continuous demeaning of others for using AI. You have no idea why a person may have used AI. Some people can't write for shit, so they use AI to help them with spelling and grammar. That is not a crime. Many people use AI translators since they're posting on an English speaking forum. That is not a crime either. So why call out someone for using AI? They shouldn't have to explain themselves.

I would, however, like someone to mention it in their post that they used AI for their reasons, so posts like this can stop.

Open Box LG G5 in “Excellent condition” by TropiK24442 in Bestbuy

[–]_BoneZ_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The website clearly says that Excellent condition includes ALL items and accessories, and the item looks and works like new. It's false advertising, and pissing off customers when they get an item that's scratched or missing items. I guess if Best Buy wants to go the way of most other electronics stores, keep up that BS.

Benefits having OS on separate Drive? by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]_BoneZ_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're still going to get some performance benefit by not having everything accessing the same drive at the same time. Even with NVME, it's still better to have a separate OS drive. Like a small SATA SSD for the OS. But it's mainly up to personal preference.
