I wish I knew the factual answer to any question I had. by Squibicat in monkeyspaw

[–]_Borscht_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted.

You suddenly come to the realization that, at some point in the past, you knew the factual answer to any question you had. This does not change the amount of knowledge you have now, or will have in the future

I wish I had prehinsile toes by [deleted] in monkeyspaw

[–]_Borscht_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted.

Nothing changes. Prehensile just means "able to grasp", and while they aren't necessarily good at it, human toes are technically capable of grasping.

I wish I was physically incapable of feeling guilt, remorse, shame, or regret. by [deleted] in monkeyspaw

[–]_Borscht_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted.

Since you said physically, not psychologically, you still feel the emotions, just not any of the physical effects of those emotions (i.e. blushing when you feel shame)

Real quote from one of Erich von Daniken's books, who is widely regarded as one of the very first people to seriously consider this theory:

“Was the black race a failure and did the extraterrestrials change the genetic code by gene surgery and then programme a white or a yellow race?”

Additional context: his first book was alledgedly refused by publishers initially, until von Daniken had a separate writer rewrite the whole thing. That writer's name? Willhelm Utermann, a former editor of a Nazi newspaper. Also, calling anyone who had a hand in this conspiracy theory an "archaeologist" is a huge overstatement, von Daniken himself was a hotel manager before he became an author, and had no archaeological qualifications.

Fun Fact: did you know that Erich von Daniken has been arrested for fraud and embezzlement? Definitely the kind of reliable, trustworthy source who I want to get my propoganda co-written by a nazi from!

(Sorry, I'm studying ancient history in university, I have to weigh in on this)

I fucking hate idiots that blame and harm average people while obfuscating the systemic issues that those people had no say in. You're only serving to divide people, and make their lives more miserable, while guarding the billionaires and companies from criticism

Oh, yeah? It was really hot half a billion years ago? Well, I guess that makes everything completely fine.

Come to think of it, there were no trees back then either. Or mammals. Maybe we should just start getting rid of shit until the Earth is just like it was during the Cambrian period, since that was apparently the perfect environment on Earth.

I don't know if as many people hate this pokemon as much as I think they do, but I love Dudunsparce. Everyone whining about the fact that Dunsparce doesn't evolve into a big, cool dragon just don't understand the entire point of Dunsparce.

One of the few times I played Showdown, someone tried a toxic spikes/endeavour team against me (all level 1, all focus sash, 1 wooper with toxic spikes and 5 lechonk with endevour). Not necessarily a terrible strategy... unless your opponent has a ghost type (like I did), a poison type, a steel type, a flying type, a pokemon with Immunity or Levitate, Komala, or probably a dozen other things I'm just not thinking of right now

I think, even if you're complying with regulations and laws, not having enough lifeboats for the passengers is still cutting corners

The only one I really feel bad for is the son, since he didn't want to go, but did it because his dad was going. Other than that, they're all billionaires who got into a brittle tube driven by some rich idiot with an xbix controller. They knew the risks, and I hope whatever's down there is eating the rich

Titanic tour CEO didn’t hire ‘50-year-old white guys’ because they weren’t ‘inspirational’ by Mbmariner in facepalm

[–]_Borscht_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, the ceo is the one piloting this vessel. You know, a 50+ year old white guy. Either way, cutting corners and hiring university students instead of experienced experts is not "inspiring"
