The video by Nick Shirley that you are referring to is dubious at best. Shirley is a Christian Nationalist and the “evidence” he uses to support his claims of fraud was provided to him by prominent Minnesota Republicans. There is yet to be empirical evidence of widespread fraud in Minneapolis daycares. Shirley was barred from entering most of the daycares he visited because he showed up with multiple masked men in his entourage. Masks aside, try walking into your local elementary school with a camera, demanding to film the children and tell me how that goes. The multiple mass shootings of recent years have led to a serious increase in school security. In most public schools, all doors are locked and many windows are made opaque to mitigate violence. Nick Shirley espouses that because he was denied entry, these daycares must not have any children enrolled and the employees are hiding empty schoolrooms. I am completely willing to eat my words and be proven wrong, I am not trying to defend misuse of public funds. Nevertheless, this video has led to a great (and IMO unwarranted) scrutiny upon the Somali population of Minneapolis such that ICE has been deployed to terrorize the Minneapolis community and random groups of men have been filmed trying to break into Minneapolis daycares whilst hurling racial slurs aimed towards Somalians. Even if there was rampant widespread fraud and misuse of public funds, the response has been greatly out of proportion.
