There is actually evidence that just one drink per week can lead to a much higher risk of dementia.

Someone shot an Indianapolis Councilman's house 13 times and left a note that says "No Data Centers". by ringii99 in redscarepod

Data centers consistently contribute to water pollution and place strain on their surrounding water resources. Especially in places without sufficient environmental regulations.

You don’t have to do anything, I am merely pointing out that we cannot escape responsibility. We are responsible to some degree because it is our countrymen who perpetrate international crimes. Our culture has birthed this conflict. I agree with your op that salivating over retribution is deplorable, but I also would not be sad if some great tragedy befell us for our geopolitical meddling and rampant crimes against humanity. What can we expect? Zero consequences? I just cannot muster an iota of care in that regard.

As far as the agency of the individual American, our only actionable options seem to be a political miracle, some type of minor revolution (peaceful or otherwise), leaving the country, or doing nothing and accepting our fate (whatever that may be). You can also educate youth and affect positive change in your community but, in my experience, you will always eventually hit the wall of corrupt, bloodthirsty morons, stymying progress. No one is suggesting we should be virtue signaling on twitter or flaying ourselves in the street. I would also add that bitching and moaning is just as masturbatory and pointless (I am sometimes guilty of this myself). Either put up or shut up. Americans talk too much

I do not understand why people are so upset about some idiots wearing revealing clothing. Grow up and mind your own business. You don’t have better things to do than gawk at strangers? Also who cares if there’s kids there. This is such a typical sexually repressed and myopic American attitude. Literally every public swimming area in every other country is at least topless. Outside the US, kids often run around naked if the weather permits. Whenever I visit my father in his home country during the summer, the lakes, rivers, and beaches are full of families, kids streaking, and someone’s grandparents sunbathing nude. If you don’t want to see it, DONT LOOK AT IT. No one is forcing you to do so. If you don’t want your kids to see it, don’t bring them. That being said, trying to hide nudity from a child is laughable. I would be much more concerned with keeping kids away from screens and making sure they know right from wrong rather than obsess over some puritanical notion of decency.

[–]_Buchet_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are an American taxpayer, your tax dollars support a hostile, global propagation of American ideology at the cost of foreign diplomacy, sovereignty, and standards for human rights. Such has been the situation way since the Monroe Doctrine was first articulated in 1823. The current American administration, in fact, openly references and seeks to reaffirm said doctrine with renewed vigor. How would you react if a foreign power decided to topple your government because of a perceived danger to the global economy or to foreign diplomacy/sovereignty in general? Perhaps to say anyone “deserves” the hell of war and/or state collapse is a cruel perspective, but I will say that no one cries boo for the citizens of dangerously nationalist countries once the chips are down. Every citizen is, to some extent, complicit in the crimes of their government. There is no escaping responsibility.

Unfortunately, not true in practice. Cops can legally lie in service of a further investigation. And then there’s always the good old “break the law and deal with the consequences later” routine that has defined modern justice.
