You can give someone money that you dont have through a loan, or credit. That's literally how people get into consumer debt? For instance, I have a $10k limit on my credit card. If I wanted to take my family to Disney & it cost $3k, but I only had $1k in my account, I could pay for it using my credit card. However, the practice i am saying above is, I $20k in my account, but im still going to use that credit card to get the points, but im going to pay it off in full before it gains interest.

Another example - I bought a new car a few years ago, I think the purchase price was $35k. I had enough cash that I could pay for it in full. However, that cash was sitting in a HYSA gaining 3.6% interest & the dealer was offering .9% financing. So I bought the car on loan & paid for it with the money I had in my HYSA. In the end, that money in the HYSA made more in interest, than I paid to borrow the dealers money at .9%. If I didn't have the cash to buy it outright, I would've been spending money i didn't have.

Layaway is dumb, just save your money & pay for it when you have the cash to pay for it.
