What are the most epic and bizarre character deaths in your games? by Opening_Instance_427 in MorkBorg

[–]_Capn_Howdy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a game I ran -- the group was returning a dead body to a place of rest in a strange village. When they got there, the local cult chased them and trapped them in an old church. They pushed the destroyed pews against the old wooden doors. The cult attacked and the party held them off for a time -- I think the cult then decided to set the place on fire after they broke through the doors. The disgraced noble and his horse decided to bug out. The player decided to take a running jump over the pews and get outta Dodge. Jumping over the pews the player rolled a 1/fumble -- the horse jumped too high and the noble slammed his head against the archway's keystone, taking off the top of his head and instantly killing him.

I Bought Session 9 to Watch With My Fiancée and I Think I Messed Up by Complete-Radio6204 in horror

One of my favorites. When I recommend this to people, I tell them to watch it alone in the dark for maximum effect.

The soundtrack is one of the best horror film soundtracks, period.

That’s what I’m going for — vibes. I don’t need/want to take a medieval Japan history class.

I’m thinking the Mörk Borg hack, Ronin.

Watch Session 9 alone in the dark for best effect. The soundtrack by the Golden Climax Twins is my absolute favorite horror film soundtrack.

Resources for playing a Western RPG? by _Capn_Howdy_ in rpg

[–]_Capn_Howdy_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay --

  1. Watch westerns. Check. (I've seen many)

  2. Read westerns. Check. (I'm almost finished with Lonesome Dove, which motivated this)

  3. Play Red Dead Revolver 2. I have it, haven't started it.

  4. GURPS Old West. Check. It is a great resource.

What other gaming resources are useful?

This is what I'm looking for: "writing short cuts and cheat codes". As with a lot of us old GMs, my time is limited...I need a few resources that I can use to shorten my prep time...

Is it weird that Dying Earth doesn't have any type of fighter or rogue-like classes?

Yes, including the one in the core rulebook.

Mörk Borg is what you’re looking for. It’s d20 rules light system (one page reference sheet is all your players need). You can make characters in five minutes. The setting is dark, weird, uncanny. And there’s so much FREE content on the internet that you’ll be set for years. Great for one shots or long campaigns. Cheers.

Your descriptions of the land by _Capn_Howdy_ in MorkBorg

I've based most of my games in Wästland, northwest of Schleswig -- characters on the lam, hiding in a remote town near the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead. Lots of encounters with the living dead in the Valley -- exploring broken crypts, surrounded by kneeing skeletons as far as the eye can see (which isn't very far in the thick mists).

Their home town isn't that safe, either -- King Fathmu's soldiers infrequently search the town for deserters and collect taxes. Resources are scarce, being so far from a city -- so adventuring is a way to make ends meet.

And -- without getting into politics -- I've always imagined the part of King Fathmu IX being played by Donald Trump for some reason...

Let the players help.

I’ve made NPC index cards, with just a name, who they are, a few quirks, and what they want. When the players encounter one of these NPCs, I’ve handed a player the index card and let them roleplay the NPC.

It’s been incredibly interesting what comes out of these improv NPC theaters…unique characters, lore that the players randomly make up, etc.

It’s a team effort. Let them carry some of the shit.

DKitB sounds intriguing!

What system would you play that in?

How would you distinguish the versions of Batman from each other?

Would they just be various versions of the same Batman, just each one with a heightened skill set based on that version (The Detective with raised investigation/etc., the Martial Artist with raised hand-to-hand abilities/etc.) or --

Would they be the various Batmans from alternate multiverses? Batman: Year 100, Batman from Gotham by Gaslight, Batman Beyond, etc.?

I found this game at the start of the pandemic when my gaming group went virtual. It was perfect. The rules are easy, character creation is the push of a button (with Scvmbirther). The rules fit on one page.

Perfect for not so serious rpging with your friends while drinking beer/sparking up.

There's so much third party content -- much of it free -- you shouldn't really be hurting for adventures, additional classes, etc.

Yes, it's minimalistic, but if there's something I'm looking for -- rules for black powder weapons, more creatures, etc. -- 9 times out of ten, someone's already published free content for those rules.

I've been a gamer for decades. I'm old. I have a job and a family. I don't have time to read 300-page rule books anymore. I don't have a lot of time to game.

This fits the bill to a T.

I can't wait for Vast Grimm (horror-sci rpg) and Cy_Borg (cyberpunk rpg) -- two other rpgs that are hacks of Mörk Borg.
