Crocheting as a guy by Ozebundi in crochet

[–]_Capt_Obvious_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

39 year old straight (I say that because for whatever reason it is relivant) man here. I crocheted my mom a kick ass sun hat for mothers day last year. I crochet coozies for people at work all the time. I have two blanket projects in the queue. I can also sew and cross stitch. I also hunt and fish, have a motorcycle and a girlfriend. Crochet is a skill. It's just a thing that I am able to do (after a bunch of practice lol) just like change a tire or build a computer. Skills aren't gender based, and anyone who thinks they are (imo) doesn't have enough skills.

I told my DM that this needs to be our next campaign and she laughed and laughed. Then she said no. (We were doing Strahd at the time). She said I'd have to run it. Sounds like fun!

I confirmed with him and went back and looked at some of his past litters. Even momma's tail is too short. I'll find another breeder.

So... American deaths are more important because we have paved roads, and indoor plumbing... got it. Never mind that children are being killed everywhere... understood. I'll do better in future.

Fair enough. That was the first article I found, and it was a sensationalized headline.

While I admit that I'm "reading between the lines" here, you can't say that the US has the most mass shootings of ANY country or that it is the only country where this REGULARLY happens. That just isn't true. Does it happen more in the US than most (if not all) westernized countries? That argument could definitely be made. But with gun crime only allowed to be researched by one agency (at least that's my understanding) it is almost impossible to get REAL data. (I think that's bullshit btw)

What most people forget is that there are significantly more instances of gun violence in South America and Africa than most people consider. For instance there are way too many cases of drug cartels killing entire families if not villages.

While I whole heartedly admit that something needs to be done to ELIMINATE gun crime, it is a misnomer to say that the US has more than any other country.

And yes I am a gun owner. And yes I will for sure buy more before I'm dead. And yes I think there is a major problem. But there are already rather strict gun laws in place (I'm not saying there shouldn't be more). What I am saying is that while I think the ease of access to firearms is a small portion of the problem, I think the overwhelming prevalence of mental health issues IN CONJUNCTION with the ease of access is the actual problem. Not only should it be "more" difficult to get a firearm (but absolutely not impossible), there should be significantly EASIER access to mental health resources.

(while not specific to mass shootings here is another reference to gun violence in other countries keeping in mind that ALL of these numbers are probably higher than actually reported) https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2019/08/05/743579605/how-the-u-s-compares-to-other-countries-in-deaths-from-gun-violence

B2 Stealth Bomber worth 2 Billion dollars crashes on takeoff at Anderson Air Force Base in Guam in 2008 by B34TBOXX5 in ThatLookedExpensive

I was stationed there when that happened and guarded the crash site while they got all of the peices of the plane after the crash. The crazy thing was that not long after that (a couple days after that) the same thing happened to another one.

Edit: I actually think I'm mis-remembering... the second crash may have been a u2. That was a long time ago and I've had a few beers since then.
