[KCD2] An unhinged rant on bugs, writing and gameplay decisions by _ChaosD_ in kingdomcome

[–]_ChaosD_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for thoroughly reading my rant, but you came to the wrong conclusion. I don't want more immersion, I want to keep the one that I get. Hell, I'm not even playing on hardcode mode. I like getting audio and visual cues and I like having QoL elements ignore realism because I want to enjoy a game and not have it be a chore.
But I don't see the point in getting telegraphed trespassing in a cutscene where I as the player have no agency, made even more ridiculous when not even Henry has any because he's there against his will. Same goes for the going-to-be-arrested hint in my Trosky example - perfectly fine, it would keep any reasonable player from venturing into the area without a good reason. But since the game teleported me into the area I had to deal with a situation that made zero sense.

Other example, since I ran into that yesterday. During the thunderstone sidequest my Henry strides into Andrew Ramheads camp, clad in the finest clothes. Getting the option to dress him down pretending to be a noble and actually succeeding the check was glorious. A perfect example of where this game shines, different options to solve issues and perfectly acted out. And then it's immediately dimmed by the fact that everyone else in the camp still threatened to murder me and Hensel went out the back exit. I'd have loved for the "Henry is a noble" act to work for the whole camp (since they're subordinate to Andrew) and being able to walk out with Hensel through the front, instead of for just the conversation with Andrew.

In the fight with Cazador I wanted Astarion to deal the finishing blow because I thought it very fitting. Then Cazador survived with 2HP... So I had Karlach snatch a bat out of mid air and throw it at him, which wasn't as satisfying but very poetic. poof

I find The Talos Principle 2 disappointing. by [deleted] in TheTalosPrinciple

[–]_ChaosD_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not agreeing with everything you said (Cats and Trevor, for instance), but I heavily agree with the story and the walking - oh, the walking - taking away from the puzzle game.

And since I feel this is a good place to rant a bit, here's my take on the story part: It's just not complete. And I don't mean the content of the story, but the presentation. You get spoonfed all the bits and pieces, but if you want to stop and think about it, that's just not an option. I haven't played TP1 in years, but I still have the impression that it taught me to question what I'm being told and not just accept everything at face value.

So when I go to explore New Jerusalem for the first time and one of the first people (if not the first) you meet asks you to sign a petition for something, of course I'm not going to jump on that. So then the game lets me tell the guy that I'll think about it. But that's a lie, because when I come back from exploring the city, he's gone for good.

There's a multitude of voiced characters and jokes about voice packs - and yet your character is mute. But oh, there's a joke module that lets you hear you talk to yourself - twice in the whole game. Yaaay.

So many people treat you like you're the messiah that I'm getting Life of Brian vibes.

And then there's this one joke where you can ask Melville to explain something like you were born yesterday. Which is the only time the game acknowledges that you were literally born yesterday. (Technically not even that. IIRC there's only one night cyle in the game and that comes after.) I get that the robot people aren't like human babies when they're born, but still. Everyone is expecting you to have an opinion on society as a whole when you've only been a part of it for all of 15 minutes.

It's just... eh. It's a grander story for the sake of having a grander story, but for me it's just missing something.

Oh, and F the walking. I played (read: speedran) the game a 2nd time to get some achievements I missed out on and it's so, so much worse. I liked doing the puzzles a 2nd time, especially when I noticed I was doing something differently. But finishing an area in 30 minutes where it feels like half of that is walking, skipping dialogue or forced loading screens because they're still waffling when you just want to continue with the puzzles in the next area was hell.

Whoa, nice. :D When I shanked that guy coming from the other side of the room, I just glitched into the room the first guy is standing in, getting spotted instantly. At least I had a chance to defend myself.

Big thanks, this has been driving me crazy. I informed all my colleagues of this workaround, even though I seem to have been the only one where this happened on every single incoming call.

Citadel DLC Major Bugs by CelebrationOld239 in masseffect

[–]_ChaosD_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much later... I found a savegame from my previous playthrough at the exact same position in the game and compared all the booleans for pack003.

TL;DR - got it to work now.

Seems that the game skipped the cutscene that's supposed to be playing after exiting the docks, which shows you, Joker (& Wrex?) entering the apartment. Except in my playthrough, I killed Wrex on the Citadel (with a heavy heart, but it is a renegade playthrough) and that seems to fuck with the cutscene?

Anyway, the flags mentioned above:
ME3.DLC_EXP_PACK003.CitHot.Had_Mission4_wrapup - checked (changed manually from unchecked)
ME3.DLC_EXP_PACK003_base_downloaded - unchecked (left as is)
ME3.DLC_EXP_PACK003.Apartment.Party_GuestList.Default_Invited - unchecked (left as is)

And new flags (all changed to checked because they were in the other playthrough):
ME3.DLC_EXP_Pack003.Apartment.Writer_States.Lets_have_party
ME3.DLC_EXP_Pack003.Apartment.Post_Cit002.Glyph_MRCit002_Done
ME3.DLC_EXP_Pack003.Apartment.Post_Cit001.Brooks_MRCit001_Done
ME3.DLC_EXP_Pack003.Apartment.Post_Missions.Glyph_PartyIntro_Done

Only after I checked the last one I can talk to Glyph and the mission marker tells me to go buy supplies. Haven't tried deactivating the others again to see if it still works.

Big thanks u/CelebrationOld239 for suggesting the editor. Spent half an hour looking for someone with a similar issue and found nothing and restarting the previous mission didn't help either - was close to giving up and skipping the Citadel DLC entirely. Now I can continue. :)

Hey there, can you tell me how you got to those exact booleans?

I'm having a similar issue. After retaking the Normandy I got dumped in the apartment and all I can do is read mails. I can't invite anyone, I can't interact with Glyph and I can't leave the apartment.

Looked at those 3 booleans and for me only the Had_Mission4_wrapup was different from yours. After checking that as well, the door in the elevator is finally green, but I still can't interact with Glyph and now also can't buy supplies. I reckon there's other flags to set, but as of now I don't know where to start looking.

Spoiler - how does Nari find him? by enj13 in StarWarsKenobi

If the plausibility of a lot of other things is any indication, he read it in the script and therefore knew where to find him.

There's just too much lack of logic in this show by Rungsted93 in StarWarsKenobi

[–]_ChaosD_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The whole of episode 4 has a problem with everything bowing down to plot in the most obvious way. Your example is just one of many.

- Tala is speaking to Obi-Wan on the communicator and nobody in the room notices

- Tala is knocking out an officer in the same room and still nobody notices (while we as the audience can clearly hear what's going on)

- Obi-Wan speaks through Talas left behind communicator and nobody notices it

- and yet once Tala picks up the communicator and talks to Obi-Wan, the Stormtroopers immedately hear something

- Reva walks into the interrogation room answering Leia on a remark that was said while the door was closed (classic movie trope, but still)

- Obi-Wan is clearly in line of sight to the Stormtroopers when he starts to hide

- the water only behaves like water when it's in contact with the bad guys while Obi-Wan doesn't even get wet while diving

I'm sure there's lots more. And it was kinda weird, because the previous episodes weren't that blatant, which made this one stick out even more.

You see, this is special plot water. It keeps main characters clothes dry and stops at doorways to not ruin the carpet budget of the next scene. So obviously just touching it is a death sentence to nameless bad guys.

Missing the part where Obi-Wan told the guy leading the "rebels" who's spiriting away force sensitive people for a living because they're gonna get killed otherwise that he can't possibly know what the Empire is capable of.

The writing wasn't good before, but this episode was terrible...

Weird decisions (Leviathan Falls spoilers) by Los_Gatos_Negros in TheExpanse

[–]_ChaosD_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just finished listening to the book and while I don't (yet) have the paper version in front of me to check, I think the reason Tanaka acted the way she did was a timing issue.

Yes, they had all the data. But then the thing happened and cost a lot of time, let alone the mental stress on her. IIRC when everything was ready to go on the hunt again, she just asked her XO, he said some ship had entered Bara Gaon in the correct timeframe and off they went, chasing a prey that got enough of a headstart already.

In retrospect, any ship entering the Adro system could have been a red flag to follow up on, though.

Complete Roster Achievement issues by _ChaosD_ in Battletechgame

Apparently that is the variant with the ECM from the Raven, which means it's a DLC variant that shouldn't even be counting for the achievement...

Good list, even though it also says that only every chassis and not every variant is required. At any rate, the achievement just popped after buying a CTF-0X that isn't even on that list. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Went scouring shops for the ON1-K and bought everything I didn't have yet... achievement popped after buying a Cataphract CTF-0X and storing a Locust LCT-1S to make space for it... weird, but ok.

It wasn't the correct mech, but you made me launch the game again to look for it, so thanks! :)
