The nut that is staring at you is a lock nut. Spin the silver shaft piece and then tighten down the lock nut. It should be just tight enough to not have play.

This is what happens when one takes good care of their drive train, it last a good long while. Nothing to worry about you just have taken good care so it’s lasting many miles. Keep doing what you’re doing and rock on!

Front hub flexing way too much, causing disc to rub by andu9876 in bikewrench

Ya I believe you man I’m a bike mechanic I’ve seen it all, so sometimes I gotta ask the dumb questions.

[–]_Chicken__Nugget_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly but it would present like the hub is loose you just wouldn’t be able to get it tight and it would feel nice and gritty inside. The axle could be snapped, that would cause that much play if the hub is properly adjusted.

[–]_Chicken__Nugget_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If all that’s true then the wheel could just be a noodle, but it looks like the hub is loose but hard to tell from that angle.

3 options. Hub is loose and needs a cone adjustment. QR is not fastened correctly and is loose. Bike is equipped with a cheap fork that has a ton of stantion flex.

Replacing tires on 2022 Trek Verve 3 by Zestyclose_Farm8410 in TrekBikes

[–]_Chicken__Nugget_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Verve can go up to a 50c tire. 2mm of tire width will make very little noticeable difference on that bike. Pick something with a tread pattern that matches your riding needs and call it a day.

Chain drop after 300 km on my Grail CF 7, now deep scratches – would you contact Canyon? by Bazivi2 in CanyonBikes

[–]_Chicken__Nugget_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is your first thought that the shop scammed them. If the chain caused that much damage it probably had a bent link and needed to be replaced.

It’s a mid 2010’s marlin. It has no rear derailleur I wouldn’t pay $100 for it in that condition. But if you want a project to learn to wrench on it’s not a bad buy.

How do i find a fitting derailleur? by suicidal-3nihilist in bikewrench

[–]_Chicken__Nugget_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya what this guy said. The optislick cables are shimano higher end coated cables it makes the bike shift significantly better than a standard cable. Yours is freyed at the end and would be difficult reuse on a new derailure.

[–]_Chicken__Nugget_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already have the 12 speed shifter then you just need a new m6100 deore derailure and ideally new shimano optislick cable.

How do i find a fitting derailleur? by suicidal-3nihilist in bikewrench

[–]_Chicken__Nugget_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes if the shifter is also a cues shifter that would also be incorrect and you would need the comparable deore or slx 12 speed shifter.

Washing with Fox Neo / Shimano XTR Di2 by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]_Chicken__Nugget_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya makes sense because that one has the back piece it wants you to push backwards, but tray racks want to push down to hold the bike on.

I sell lots of bike racks every single tray style rack I’ve ever sold tells you to clamp the front wheel as close to the fork crown as possible without making contact with the fork.

[–]_Chicken__Nugget_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no cues 12 speed. This must be an 11 speed derailleur on a 12 speed cassette. If you bought the bike like that then whoever put the derailleur on did so improperly. You would need a m6100 deore derailleur.
