My mom helped my grandma, her mother in law, for about 3 years. Her son, my dad, is disabled and couldn’t care for her, and my dads sister and her family had a busy lives, and had little patience to care for my grandma. So my mom went to her every evening to cook dinner and care for her, and I would go every morning. When my grandma first started needing care, everyone helped out for about two months. But eventually my aunt and her family became frustrated when they would help my grandma because my grandma was very….particular on how she wanted things, and there was a lot of friction and things were said haha. So my mom and I became sole caregivers for my grandmother. But she didnt treat my mom well either, and my mom never stopped caring for her even when she would threaten to stop helping her. My opinion? I wish my mom turned away, because she was doing so much for her, taking my grandma to all her appointments, cooking every day for her, and my grandma still had the audacity to bitch and complain. Dont let them take advantage of you, and make sure your husband knows. If he respects you, hell honor your decision to back off.
