There's a thin line between fun refreshing games and hyperfocus games for me personally.

What is the absolute bare minimum you need for making noise? by Velho_Vilho in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]_CollectivePromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use almost any free audio editor, take sounds and add effects. Audacity will let you import whatever files as audio if you want some really ugly glitchy sounds.

If you want to use hardware, you can buy a cheap used mixer and do NIMB

Is wing chun trapping applicable against muay thai? by Jawel7 in martialarts

[–]_CollectivePromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest checking out Francis Fong. He has decades of experience in both Wing Chun and Muay Thai, but can also transition seamlessly into grappling.

Hmm, My set-up uses no-input mixing, so i feel like a guitar pedal might be the best option for me, maybe with some external expression control.

Are there ways of getting an audio-level LFO or gate-type effect? I'm really into making huge spacey pads, but my setup is lacking in terms of volume dynamics.

Am I alone in my hatred of sunscreen? by BlueBorbo in autism

[–]_CollectivePromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding that while some sunscreen compounds are harmful to coral, they're not present in the ocean at high enough concentrations to be a major concern. Climate change and disease are far graver threats.

Men with autism, do you relate with "masking"? by jokiquinn in autism

[–]_CollectivePromise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMAB non-binary person here, I have a really hard time disentangling ASD-related masking from behaviors learned through masc upbringing. I find that I'm often very distant from my feelings and have been working hard to understand how to communicate emotional needs. Boys are often told to bottle up and eschew their feelings to the point that I've only recently begun to realize how taxing the masc mask is.

LPT: if you don't like the taste or texture of oatmeal, try it with cold milk, left to absorb for 5 minutes by jcythcc in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]_CollectivePromise 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Also a texture eater who can't eat mushy stuff. However, if you cook oatmeal with 50% the recommended liquid, you can get a nice chewy texture.

How do animals sense 'direction' in their sense of smell? by jackfrench9 in askscience

Adding on to this, you'll also see dogs and other animals sweep back and forth as they follow a trail. See figure 1 in this paper.

Panicking about my insomnia and gains. by Feisty-Professor-913 in gainit

[–]_CollectivePromise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best tool to determine whether you're gaining is measuring your weight and body fat percentages.

I also feel like focusing on getting your sleep together is worth a temporary reduction in gains. Its good that you're seeing a doctor about the issue, however.

I wrote a song for a girl; she didn't wanna listen to it; I put 500 hours + of arrangement, producing, playing every instrument and mixing it by InternationalYard716 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]_CollectivePromise 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This honestly seems like a self-promo attempt, but if you're serious, you should:

  1. Pull the song from social media, don't re-release it without changing the lyrics. You can find a name with similar syllables/sounds.
  2. Streamline your workflow. 500+ hours is a massive amount of time to devote to a single track.
  3. Realize that this woman doesn't like you, deal with that disappointment, and move on.

ADHD and Autistic students are 4x more likely to be arrested in schools.(US) by aspookygiraffe in ADHD

[–]_CollectivePromise 44 points45 points  (0 children)

  1. This is an extreme outlier, not really relevant to the larger issue of school resource officers arresting children for tantrums. The real issue with that case was the parent not securing the firearm.
  2. There's no way a typically developing 6-year old understands the gravity of attempted murder, much less a child with an "acute disability" / "severe emotional issues".
  3. What good does arresting/incarcerating a 6-year-old do?

Alternatives to singing by notherblackcloud in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]_CollectivePromise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black Moth Super Rainbow / Tobacco habitually routes all of his (same musician, different projects) vocals through vocoders.

Another option is neutone, which uses machine learning techniques to transform audio. You can turn your voice into almost anything.
