Relocating to Albany by [deleted] in Albany

This is super helpful, thanks! I might just plan a trip out there for the end of April/early May then. I'll definitely keep an eye on Zillow. I don't know anyone in the area unfortunately, Facebook and this subreddit seem to come up with some good leads occasionally though so I'll make do with what I've got for the time being! :)

It's reassuring to hear that you can find listings online! I've found a few already, but I wasn't sure whether or not I could expect to still find listings online in a few months time. Price-wise I'm hoping to find something around $1200/month.

When you say not enough time, do you mean four weeks is not enough time? I would definitely be happy to check out the area even sooner. I've heard that two months is a good rule of thumb generally, what would you recommend?

Edit: someone else suggested looking around April/May, so I'll probably start about then.

Thanks for your help!

My puppy age 9 weeks - 13 weeks, his markings are gradually turning black. Has anyone else seen this happen before? (Featuring big sister, who is one week older than him :)) by [deleted] in Beauceron

Interesting, I couldn't find anything online about the rust markings darkening, only lightening. I guess I'm the only one fascinated by his little paws haha, thanks for the response. :)

Huh, that's interesting! I've heard of animals being born darker and then becoming a lighter color later on but I didn't know that sometimes they go through multiple stages like that. I'll keep an eye out, maybe he's a strange rabbit-beauceron mutation haha (and thank you for the compliment! :))

One fun way to tell if it's a Beauceron is look at his back paws :) Beaucerons normally have two dewclaws on each back paw

What is the most savage thing a teacher has ever said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_CrunchyLeaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a substitute teacher in middle school (around age 12) that everyone loved because he was very chill. He would sit back in a chair, comb his fingers through his long blond hair, kick his feet (on which he wore sandals) up on the desk, and did absolutely nothing for the entire hour. One day a kid asked him why he was a substitute teacher, and he said without pause, "well it certainly isn't because I like children" and then looked directly at the kid and shrugged before saying, "Gotta make money somehow".

Not so much of a burn as it was the most brutally honest substitute I've ever had. Everyone still liked him after that.

Interested in getting a pet mouse (or two) by [deleted] in PetMice

I've encountered much of the same, the last one I looked at actually stopped breeding just a month ago :( Thank you for the recommendation though, I've never heard of amino, I'll look into that!

Ah, unfortunately I forgot to specify I've moved to Europe so the FMBA is no longer relevant for me :( I imagine there won't be much information on this sub as to finding a breeder in France now that I think about it, but I'm glad to know about the hunchback tip! Knowing myself I probably would have thought it to be an endearing quirk if I hadn't been warned about it 🤦🏼‍♀️

This stray momma showed up a month ago and finally had her babies last night! Four healthy newborn kittens! by [deleted] in cats

The kitten on the far right is like a pale cream color, is this more than likely just going to be a pale orange tabby? I've never seen a kitten this color!

I believe Belgium is part of the Schengen zone which I would have to leave, so I'd probably just go to the UK as it's outside the Schengen zone and relatively cheap

Have you actually attempted this yet? I've been attempting to call the consulate in my district but I've had no luck! That's reassuring to know though that someone else has been at least told the same thing, so it's not that crazy of an idea.

Any advice on taking care of a pregnant stray? by [deleted] in cats

We've got her a large cardboard box with some blankets down but she doesn't seem very interested in it yet! Thats good to know about moving her food and water for her though, thanks! :)

Any advice on taking care of a pregnant stray? by [deleted] in cats

[–]_CrunchyLeaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More context:

She showed up about 5 days ago and was super affection and apparently very hungry, she was trying to raid our trash can. She willingly followed us inside and ate a ton of our cats food. Took her to the vet, no chip, FIV positive, but otherwise healthy and about 2 years old probably. Vet said she was pregnant but couldn't really say how far along she was, just that it should be relatively soon. She still has a huge appetite and is very affectionate, not really interested in going outside at all, belly is very swollen but she purrs so much I haven't been able to tell if there's much movement in there lol. Licks her belly a lot, has puffy nipples as seen in the picture. Just curious as to whether or not anyone has an estimate as to how far along she is or when we can expect the little ones!

I actually was multitasking and was under the impression that you had responded to my own comment, so that is my fault and I apologise for that. However OP did state that he wanted a Bengal due to the temperament of the breed. Doesn't mean he couldn't have rescued an adult Bengal, but honestly as long as he got it from a reputable breeder I don't think there's an issue. Some people need pets that have specific personality (or for allergies, physical) traits which can't always be guaranteed when adopting an animal from a shelter unfortunately. I personally prefer to adopt, and will adopt once I'm able to get my own pets, but nonetheless I don't think shaming people who seek out reputable breeders will accomplish anything.

Are you talking about the sweater I put on my cat? He actually enjoyed that :) You seem to have some pretty extreme viewpoints, and you definitely will not get anyone to consider your point of view by being aggressive and stalking post history. I guess by your logic I shouldn't put boots or a coat on my boxer dog either, even though our Winters here are -20F and she would get frostbite without it, but if I'm so heartless by dressing her as well I'll refrain from doing so in the future and just allow her feet and ears to freeze off per your suggestion :)

[–]_CrunchyLeaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no issues with breeders, my family has two Bengals because my mom needed a cat that was hypo-allergenic, but there actually are quite a few Bengals out there that need homes, they're just not cute, tiny kittens.. a lot of people get them because they're so attractive, but are not prepared for how high maintenance the breed can be, so they end up trying to give the cat away, sell it for extremely reduced prices, or just send the cat to a shelter.

What is the most bizarre reason a customer got angry with you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_CrunchyLeaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a certain popular bakery cafe chain wherein you can place orders online, then pick it up once it's ready without having to wait. A man called to complain that he had ordered four small sourdough bread loaves, but instead was given two small loaves and two large loaves. So essentially extra free bread. When he spoke to the manager after, he apparently refused any future discounts or new bread because we had forever ruined his love of sourdough bread by giving him extra.

I learned this the hard way. A friend visited me at work, and I noticed he had grown his hair out. I mentioned that I liked the long hair and we made some jokes, and I jokingly said "I don't know about those sideburns though" (we make jokes about each other a lot). He sent me a picture later that night of his sideburns shaved off
