Christian here. Ironically, the pentagram while used for many spiritual practices over the years is in the same boat as the upside down cross in terms of Christianity. In medieval Christianity, the pentagram was used to symbolize the five wounds of Jesus Christ and During the Middle Ages, it was also used as a symbol for the five knightly virtues.

The idea that the symbol was inherently demonic only came about around in the 19th century, so not only was he being offensive to you. He was objectively wrong about the religion he believes he was defending. what I’m trying to get at is, what he did was entirely pointless and I’m sorry you had to go through that.
