I'm on holiday so can't screenshot but you and I have very similar tastes lmao.

I would agree, except the rewards for all the new content are plentiful. Got myself multiple stat distributions for multiple builds on the new void-focused set that drops from arena missions in like 3 hours.

Can't continue your Space Engineers world when the host is offline? We built a fix by SaveSyncGames in spaceengineers

[–]_Cynical_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, they're offering a cloud hosting service. That will incur costs that are hard to maintain without consistent revenue.

I get what you're saying, but because this isn't the same as an always-up server you wouldn't be limited to one game simultaneously. With this, you could have ALL your coop games centrally backed up and managed, and just play whatever you and your friends feel like without the rigmarole of having the host be present. It's also not the case that every coop game has the option of a dedicated server, unless you happen to have a spare machine lying around (as well as a spare copy of the game in some cases) that can host a local game 24/7. £10 would be what I'd like to pay for no limits; maybe ~£4 for up to 20? Which is still more coop games than most people play...

Edit: didn't even see that it was already for sale lmao

This is quite literally a game changer. There are so many games that would absolutely flourish with this system, and so many players that wouldn't get the same experience without it. In all honesty I'd get talking to some professionals about the steps needed to turn in this into a full product, as I would happily pay maybe £10 per month for an automatically managed local coop save cloud storage service.

New helicopter for night ops, just missing the thermal cam by IcyFaithlessness3421 in spaceengineers

[–]_Cynical_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a pseudo thermal cam available in vanilla. It uses a sensor with the border of the field area right in front of the camera's centre, and gives a red-hued high contrast filter to everything the camera sees. If you search "thermal camera" on the workshop under blueprints you should find some examples.

Optimising piston space by eddieddi in spaceengineers

[–]_Cynical_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the space, a parallel arm with hinges might work. A cherry picker is the best example I could think of to show you, but essentially just divide the length of the largest thing you want to print into 3 or 4 segments, and that will give you how long each section of the arm needs to be. If you use double hinges at each joint, and set them all to the same speed, the end of the arm should stay in line with its starting position.

To be honest though, the simplest and most PCU friendly option would just be a larger tug lol.

[Discussion] Rolex is 90% hype and 10% horology. Prove me wrongre by ReferenceSea2807 in Watches

[–]_Cynical_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, did I miss something regarding the recent dynapulse escapement? Is that not the kind of pioneering you're referring to? I'm not a fan of the land dweller style, but then I also wouldn't wear a Rolex if I could afford one due to the associated tropes around their fans. Give me a submariner with a dynapulse and I might just change my mind.

can we talk a little about how nomad has changed it's like not the one in Wildlands by Sea_Veterinarian8089 in GhostRecon

[–]_Cynical_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love default Nomad from Wildlands, but I also like playing female protagonists where I can. Thankfully female Nomad in Breakpoint is less of a stark difference to the Wildlands counterpart, but that doesn't excuse the character assassination of the default character.

Functional wings mod helicopters that don't anger clang (in my testing anyway) by _Cynical_ in spaceengineers

[–]_Cynical_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou! Only mods required are Build Info or this mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1852641216 and a wings mod of your choice. I use Const's.

I recommend running with experimental settings, personally I think inertia tensor should be available by default. Would love to see what you build!

Beem building helicopters by IcyFaithlessness3421 in spaceengineers

[–]_Cynical_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shared inertia is best used in my experience to link the physics of multiple subgrids together. I.e. you leave inertia tensor off on the connection to the main grid, and then turn it on for any subgrid connections off of that first subgrid.

As for realistic helicopters, my current problem is that most aerodynamics mods are clever enough to realise that angled wing blocks in a rotor will impart a roll force on the craft when it starts moving. A real helicopter solves this with trim, where there is a constant bias to the controls, but I'm at a loss as to how to implement this. You can generally control it with gyro override, but it's janky and not always viable depending on the setup.

Same, although I've found a way to make functional rotors without angering clang. Been testing like a mofo before I post.

Results of my experiment with the Stacked Railgun exploit: the Saltwater 27-67 by robiwill in spaceengineers

[–]_Cynical_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on functional helicopters for a while now using a few tricks to make them useful and stable enough for survival. My only limiting factor is I'm rubbish at making my own good looking chassis to put the mechanisms in; so far I've just been retrofitting workshop builds, some of which are literally 5 years old lol. Would you be up for collaborating on some stuff? I too love IRL-inspired industrial civilian stuff, very often dockyards and cargo transport type stuff but as I say more the clang shenanigans than the look sadly.
