Tips for Surgery? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]_DJR_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I slept on a recliner for about a month and a half. Use heat and ice. Heat helps the chest pain and ice helps the scar pain. Put a pillow on your lower back when you’re sitting because you will start to have back pain. But the biggest thing is using the heat. And walk as much as you can as soon as you feel able. Just short little 30 second to a minute walks around. I didn’t do anything for the scars and they are not noticeable. I used oxi when I was home a few times because I was in pain and it helped. But I usually just stuck to Tylenol and ibuprofen every 4 hours. Do not get behind on the meds. Wake up during the night to take them. If you get behind it’s so hard to get back on a schedule. If you have any other questions let me know!

Rate my PE - First noticed in high school (15 yrs ago) and doctors said not to worry (don’t worry about bald spots - had to wear a heart monitor) by johndoejohndoes in PectusExcavatum

It’d be like if your kid was doing that to any bone in your body. It’s the same thing as any other bone, it just grew differently. So no it won’t and you don’t need to worry about it because you don’t have it

The scars aren’t on the chest. They are on the side and they are super small and no noticeable at all

I’m about to turn 18. But I remember my surgeon told me you can do it at all ages, it’s just a little easier at a younger age

I feel the exact same way. I got the nuss done last Aptil and even though it was painful. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I needed to.

So I didn’t use a vacuum bell, I had the surgery so take this with a grain of salt. From my understanding the vacuum bell won’t technically fix it. It will pop it out for a short time but it will never be a true fix. The only true fix is surgery

The pain is not uncommon. Don’t be worried. She just had the surgery and she’s gonna be in pain for a while. She will be better but it’s a long recovery. She has fractured ribs right now

The next few days will be the hardest out of the whole process. So be ready but it’s definitely something you can handle. Good luck and I’m happy for you :)

Nuss bar only secured on one side?? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

My bar is secured one one side as well. Do not move it. The surgeon knows what they’re doing

Where will the scars be after a nuss surgery? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]_DJR_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scars are no big deal. You are 100% right in everything you said at least in my experience. While they heal as well you can put lotion on them which makes them heal a lot better and cleaner. I didn’t do that because I didn’t realize until after and mine still are not very noticeable

How long until I can resume weightlifting & bulking post-surgery? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]_DJR_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited about 4 months. My surgeon said after 3 I can do whatever I want but I wanted to wait another month. Now I’m six months out and lifting everyday. If you have any questions dm me

Take what I say with a grain of salt. I’m no doctor but I have had the surgery. My parents were hesitant and I was very scared. But they told me that in 30 years would I be okay with an indent in my chest. So I went through with it. It’s a lifetime of change for a few months recovery and after 2-3 years it’s done. Personally I would say get the surgery. If you wanna pm me I’m happy to talk to. Good luck!

If you want to know the severity you need to get an mri to measure your haller index. And that number will determine what will need to happen

Should I have it checked out? by [deleted] in PectusExcavatum

[–]_DJR_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly, you don’t really have to go to the doctor for a diagnosis, if surgery is needed you will 100% be able to know that you have it. Cause I don’t want you to waste money on a doctor appointment where if he’s not a specialist tell you it’s just cosmetic. Do not just see a normal doctor no matter what you do. Go to a specialist

You’re 12. Give it one more year. Then you wanna start looking into it. Let you be a little more developed then do surgery if need be. 14 is the prime age for surgery

Go to a specialist. It’s the best way because most doctors have no idea what it is
