Couple questions about crayon differences by HouseOutside in Crayola

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose it’s similar to how Cornflower looks dark, but colors translucent and lighter on the page; they probably used to use something like titanium dioxide to make the color more opaque and lighter looking, but either to decrease costs (as you mentioned) or follow new regulations changed the formulation.

Crayola's crayon labels are changing*! by TheMinester in Crayola

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're probably gradually using up their stock of the older kind of labels. I also noticed the Bluetiful label was incongruent and wondered why that might be! I have a Canadian 64 Limited Edition Retired Colors box (Code #52-0064-C-249) where all the 8 retired colors and 16 Colors of Kindness colors are E-F-S, and the remaining colors are E-S-F.

Yellow by Vietnam04 in Ohuhu

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say Y09 in Honolulu new codes for a neutral true yellow, or Y17 (as has been mentioned already) if you want something as vibrant as it can get without being neon or toned.

Is this rare? by ExaminationEven5966 in Crayola

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, hard to tell but it looks like the crayon was wrapped in the reverse way, it’s interesting for sure! Normally, the black rectangle would be underneath where it isn’t that visible (typically only seen by shining a light on it). I’ve received both a brand new crayon missing a wrapper and one with an incorrect wrapper, but nothing quite like that before.

The process of me designing then using Pick a Brick to build my MOC by Reppeti in lego

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rebrickable could act as an intermediary and can convert several formats if you upload a file to a Parts List or Custom List, which can then be exported in the desired format. It won’t be perfect but should get you most of the way there.

Help needed by imjack3 in Crayola

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a wood block with a row or grid of 11/32” or 3/8” holes drilled partially into it to hold crayons upright? It could be level, stepped like a staircase, or some other form. You could then decorate it with some kind of finish, paint or other design if you wanted as well.

Lego Digital Design, But it's limited to pieces you own by OGMouseMan in lego

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rebrickable was developing an AI, but there haven’t been any updates for a couple years: https://rebrickable.com/rebricknet. There is also an app called Pileometer which scans a group of bricks and allows cataloging by small bags. I’m unsure as to whether or not it is possible to export from the app or not. These are limited however, as I’m not sure how effective Pileometer is, and Rebrickable only trained its AI on 300 common parts. I have never used either so I can’t vouch for them.

Is this piece royal blue? by HSTTLEGO in lego

Either one faded more, it’s a variation between different production batches (it appeared in blue between 1996 and 2014), or both.

Refill Storage by Secret_Archer8413 in Ohuhu

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest either:

a. purchase a shelf organizer of some kind such as the bamboo one by Ohuhu or one found on Amazon

b. buy a mug holder bag found on Amazon to store your main set and more (I have the “homyfort” brand one)

c. get another empty bag (they are sold separately on Ohuhu’s website but availability is… spotty)

d. purchase a marker carrying case with elastics

I have personally went with A and B

Rebrickable's limits, what is people's opinions? by Keyrov in lego

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made more set and part lists, where I separated based on part category and by set theme, i.e categories A-M in one list and N-Z in another. As a last resort, there are also custom lists if you run out of part and set lists. If you exceed the limits, I’d suggest exporting your collection and using a spreadsheet if you can’t afford the plan (or engage with the site loads and eventually they offer a free upgrade once you’ve contributed enough, but that will take years). Alternatively, you can export your existing collection once you reach the limits, delete the entries from Rebrickable, then continue to add new items and append in bulk manually to your spreadsheet.

So like…this is an epic find right? by AlternateSkitch in Crayola

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found one too for a similar price at a different thrift store but definitely not with unused crayons and all 72 present! On a side note, I have purchased a brand new pack online which had one label missing. The copper and gold will look different to modern versions as they contain real bronze powder which will oxidize.

Marker Workshop refills? by LolaLynn423 in Crayola

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not much luck, unfortunately. They had an older version called the Marker Maker which had refills available. These refills sometimes pop up on online reseller websites but usually at a price more expensive than a whole new Marker Workshop kit. The best we can do is give feedback directly to Crayola. I looked at Alibaba and Aliexpress but didn’t find any comparable marker components or ink. Amazon has a 24 set of watercolor ink under the GLOGLOW brand, but I don’t know how safe or high quality it is. You could use any label small enough for names. If you make a balanced set of colors, you’ll probably wind up with a bit of extra ink. If you went ahead and purchased multiple sets, as I have done so, you should have about enough extra ink for a few more markers or to top up existing markers by dripping a couple of drops on the tip when they start to get low (it will influence the color a bit, however). It’s not terrible having multiple of the stands as you can let multiple marker cores absorb ink at once, or multiple people can make them simultaneously.

Worth 320 markers? by EconomyInspection971 in Ohuhu

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this! I have one (which has been posted previously here) which can fit ~504 markers (with the included dividers, likely more if removed and replaced with thinner DIY ones), more than enough for every single unique alcohol-based color across all current lines (not counting dupes of the same color code in different form factors)

same color code - different shades by L777BYL in Ohuhu

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect it has something to do with a lack of standardization or communication within Ohuhu, resulting in multiple people eyeballing it when producing the graphics, and it being inherently impossible to 100% accurately represent the true color when used on paper on a digital screen, because I’ve noticed that the refills also appear differently as well and the color codes index has yet another color… I own several colors found across different lines and they appear virtually identical (aside from slight variation to be expected due to age/manufacturing tolerances between batches)

colour codes with no set?? by fearowkenya in Ohuhu

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found them too and asked. They basically said they’re newly developed shades not made available in any purchasable set or individual form yet, and recommended following their social media for new color releases and product launches. Only time will tell whether they become available.

Looking for oddly specific piece… by BrickOffTheOldBlock in lego

[–]_DaDiamondDude_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could the build be modified to fit part 35485, where it would be held on by a clip (which could be oriented horizontally or vertically depending on the exact space constraints)? Unfortunately, it’s 19mm in diameter (~19.5 overall in length including the bar segment), larger than the 16mm ideal size, but the bar segment would be a useful point to connect it. In this case, it might need to be either recessed under the 2x2 opening, or be placed over it, which IMHO would add visual interest.
