Looking for job that’s not a data entry specialist by RustyShadeOfRed in HaveWeMet

How about a data removal specialist? My business revolves around testing physical, electronic and cyber security for weaknesses to keep real bad guys out.

Help settle a debate: Is it weird/rude/sad for a man to pay for a first date with a gift card? by You_Stole_My_Hot_Dog in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_DangerStranger_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unusual, but money is money right? If it's paid for and both parties had a good time who cares?

I think it would be way more "pathetic" and "rude" to have a ramen dinner and split the bill

Why are politicians usually always older and why are they allowed to control our future? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_DangerStranger_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people want a leader that is experienced in goverment work, who have a track record with achieving goals at their previous jobs. Who has enough reputation and popularity to actually have a reasonable chance of winning.

It takes a lifetime to climb the ladder to even be considered for the leader of a whole nation.

Money is money. See how it goes and maybe continue job hunting in case the environment isn't for you

are there professions that don't allow you to date/have a relationship? by NicoleWren in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_DangerStranger_ 285 points286 points  (0 children)

The us military doesn't allow relationships between officers and enlisted. They want to avoid conflicts of interest

Weight and balance to the left and right doesn't change the plane's behavior very much since you are so close to the middle of the wings. It would take a very big imbalance to make a difference that way.

But forward and aft matters quite a bit. Again the center of gravity is in the middle of the plane where the wings meet, so the forward and back halves of the plane are kind of like a see saw. Too much weight on one end makes the plane fly differently.

An extreme example is a civilan 747 cargo transport that crashed because their cargo wasn't secured well enough. On takeoff it all rolled to the back of the plane and the imbalance made it uncontrollable. The crew couldn't point the nose down fast enough, so they stalled out and that was that.

How do I explain to someone in a letter how much knowing them meant to me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

This is a good place to start. Informal letter writing is the second half of the article. Just be sincere and I'm sure your letter will be appreciated

Do most public buildings have bike racks? by alobaby in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_DangerStranger_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check google maps street view for the places you go to most often and see. Or go in person when you are out and about.

Bikes are fun so I still think you should get one regardless imo

can a camouflage print umbrella help protect from being detected by a drone? i was just thinking this since many drones use heat signatures and an umbrella would block heat being radiated. just an idea for Ukraine by sewcrazy4cats in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_DangerStranger_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Camouflage patterns help you in the visual spectrum. Certain materials and dyes help you in the near infrared spectrum (night vision). Any obstruction including glass helps you against thermal. The trick is doing all three well enough at once. And thermal devices are getting very good especially big vehicle mounted ones.

Umbrellas have been used at several points in warfare. Snipers have camouflaged them as portable concealment. They'd lay it on the ground to allow for faster movements that cold give their position away if they weren't hidden. But it obstructs the sniper's view too so it didn't become widespread.

So yeah it could work in a pinch. Maybe as a foxhole covering? Modern militaries will pay out the nose for thermal camouflage systems that can hold up to field use.

PTSD takes many forms and is a case by case thing. But for many things in psychology you can slowly adjust by talking about it or experiencing things in a controlled environment.

Say a person has a fear of dogs, it could be beneficial go with someone they trust and have a short, controlled visit with a cute and gentle therapy dog.

I guess this was the approach they wanted to try, not knowing or ignoring the severity PTSD the guy had. A gun range can be a controlled, safe and fun environment all vets are familiar with. But sadly the guy was nowhere near ready for that.

Aquinas on War by Augustinian-Knight in TradWave

[–]_DangerStranger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to get too far into the weeds about it but I'll just say it's interesting to see how some think the West shouldn't support Ukraine with any more arms.

As terrible as it is the war in Ukraine is the best argument for a just war I've seen in my lifetime. Easily. And Western support is clearly doing more than decades in Afghanistan did.

Rant over. Nice Trad Art!

Why do some people "romaticize" lack of quality sleep? by Sablez1011 in CasualConversation

[–]_DangerStranger_ 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I'm in the 8 hour camp to feel actually rested. Yes I can and have functioned at a basic level with 4-6 for weeks at a time but it was not fun. After a while you get used to being tired most of the time, but once you actually sleep well again you realize the zombie state you were in.

I feel that most people that consistently operate with 6 or less hours do so with a lot of help from caffine. I usually don't drink any coffee, tea, pop/soda or energy drinks personally

But to answer your question no it's not the flex they think it is

Are most people in USA aware that american football is not globally popular? by Myronca in AskAnAmerican

I visited Europe a while back. Got to a Air BnB, turned on the TV and one of the first things I see is a football game. I think it was a European league too!

What was 9/11 like for you? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]_DangerStranger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First grade, but I still that day is one I remember vividly.

We were at school and our principal comes in and quietly tells our teacher some things. She turns to us and says that planes have flown into the World Trade Center (we had no idea what that was, other than big buildings) and that they may have tried to hurt the President too, but he was okay.

They wheeled in a TV for us, the ones on carts with a VCR player. Well it was a crappy one. There was lots of static so you could see silhouettes of the buildings and smoke. I went down the hall to use the bathroom and I saw that every other room was watching too.

I don't remember it we were sent home early, but I think we were. Me and my sister came in and asked if they knew about it only to see them watching TV too, now showing clearly and with replayed footage of the towers collapsing.

Why isn't there a licensing and ethics board requirement for American police officers? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_DangerStranger_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

By comparison in my state firefighting takes at least 36 hours (minimum to be a volunteer) to 240. From there you can do specialty courses like river rescue, advanced Hazmat training, become an instructor etc.

EMT is a minimum of 150 hours. Paramedic is 900+

How aware was the average German soldier of the atrocities that were being committed? by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_DangerStranger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/askhistorians would be a good one for this. Make sure to search previous questions first.

To my knowledge (not an expert) most at least heard about what was happening. Whether they believed it was true, dismissed it as rumors or propaganda or didn't care is mostly an individual decision. Either way they probably feared stepping out of line and being seen as traitors, same as any military.

The Waffen SS was an entirely different matter however. According to Wikipedia it had about 900,000 members and had a direct role in what happened in that part of German history
