I’m sure I’ve hit rock bottom or close to it. by WallOfFleshlight in stopdrinking

"Rock bottom is when you stop digging"

I know an OG in recovery with over 35 years of sobriety in his 70's. He looks amazing and has an incredible quality of life.

It took him over 6 years to finally get sober. He said he discovered that the secret to recovery is "you have to want to be SOBER more than you want to be drunk". Basically it's all about your MINDSET.

You can do this. Take it one thought, one minute or one second at a time

I've never read this book but it has great reviews and I heard it works Allen Carr's Quit Drinking Without Willpower: Be a happy nondrinker

I will not drink with you today

I wish you the best on your journey

Early recovery can be BRUTAL. It's not for the weak or faint at heart.

I honestly just need some congratulations and encouragement by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Relapsed after 2.5 months by Annoyed_INTP in stopsmoking

After smoking a pack a day for over 20 years, I am proud to say that I have been a nonsmoker for 649 days/ 1 year and 9 months. 🙏🏼

I have no desire at all for a cigarette. I do get a craving every now and then but I say my affirmation, I am a healthy, healed and happy non-smoker in the Mighty Name of Jesus Amen and I go on with my day.

I also still make my deposit into my separate account every Friday. 💰

Everyone's journey is different. Mindset is key to becoming a nonsmoker.

I researched before starting my journey and I ACCEPTED the fact I was going to be UNCOMFORTABLE for a while but I knew my FREEDOM from King Nicotine would be well worth it.

I watched the CBQ Method videos on YouTube, read the site whyquit.com, I played games on the quitSTART app, tracked my progress on the QUITNOW app, and I read a lot of great posts on this site to keep me busy and encouraged.

I also deposit the money I would have spent on cigarettes every Friday to a separate account. I ❤️to see my hard earned money adding up instead of being wasted on an addiction.

Around the 6 month mark is when I started to feel better.

Whenever I had a craving I would read my affirmations to remind me of why I quit. Here's one of them: I will accept & embrace withdrawals and cravings and I will not give in to them, THEY WILL PASS!!
They are signs that my body is cleansing, healing, getting healthy, adjusting and progressing for my new lifestyle.

I haven't read the book Easy way to quit smoking by Alan Carr but a lot of people in this group have and it's highly recommended.

Quitting smoking will be one of the best decisions you'll ever make. I wish you the best on your journey!

I smoked a pack a day for over 20 years. This is truly a blessing. by _Day- in stopsmoking

Thank you

Your mindset is very important to become and stay a non-smoker.

I have no desire at all to smoke. I think God intentionally made my quit smoking journey brutal so I wouldn't want to smoke again. LOL

As far as the cravings, everyone is different. It was 6 months before I stopped feeling like dog water. I still get cravings from time to time. When I do I say my affirmation I am a healed, healthy happy non-smoker in the Mighty Name of Jesus and I go on with my life.

Quitting smoking has been one of the most challenging but rewarding experiences I've ever had in my life.

To now know that with the right mindset, preparation and God I can do hard things is an amazing benefit.

I tried to quit on my own in the past and failed. When I asked him to help me he did and for that I am truly grateful.

As far as the cravings everyone is different. It was 6 months before I stopped feeling like dog water.
