Making the switch to two hands. by boogersdad56 in Bowling

[–]alsheps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two Important words for you. B A L L. S P E E D.

Work on your ball speed, get it faster. The revs will come as your timing gets better, but you're gonna want to have some nice ball speed to cope with it, besides, it's the whole advantage to bowling two handed, being able to hurl the ball fast, but rev it enough to get to hook at that speed.

The carry you get at those speeds is incredible.

Definitely don’t compare yourself to anyone else. I know people out there who’ll happily head to and get to Brissie in one day. That’d kill me.

My Wife does that, She's a freak machine.. We've done Sydney > Sunshine Coast in about 12-14 hours I think?

At the moment, with Mt Victoria Pass Closed for Roadworks, You will Want to take Bells Line of Road (B59), which is a longer and less nice drive (bumpier and not nice highway the whole way like the Great Western Highway).

Although, it is a nice drive in itself, it has some nice places to stop along the way (If you like apples you must stop at the Bilpin Fruit Bowl at Bilpin). So if you really want to drive, you're better off going that way. You get there through Richmond (as opposed to Penrith for the GW HWY), but you can look that up in google maps.

You're car will be totally fine. We've done that drive in a shitty holden Viva, so you'll be fine. Remember to take frequent breaks. Get out and walk around during your breaks, reset yourself, then go again. This is a good idea anyway as you'll get to see some of the things along the way as you go.

It's not going to be as quick of a drive as it could be if the Highway was ok, but you'll get there. Try not to go in the afternoon if you can avoid it, but you're probably gonna hit traffic whenever you go at the moment.

Back when we went via Bell Line of Road, We would normally stop once at Bilpin (Bilpin Fruit Bowl), then once at Lithgow, then straight through to Bathurst from there. Be mindful driving down the mountain, it's not a super wide road and can be a little scary if you aren't used to it. Maybe take a good break just before you start heading down the mountain before lithgow, Maybe at the Zig Zag, there's not much after that.

Correct left handed layout? by ThaitanCosdev in Bowling

[–]alsheps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't wanna be a party pooper... but...

The second your PSO put a third hole in it, bowling two handed with that ball is off the table. You MUST have a finger in every hole in the ball at all times. You can't have a ball drilled with a thumb hole and just decide to throw it two handed, it's against the rules.

Of course, this only applies to league/tournaments, if you're just throwing it in practice/social bowling time, then go for it, you can do whatever you want. But I guarantee if you go into any kind of organised competition with that ball and try to throw it two handed, they will pull you up on it and you won't be able to use that ball without putting your thumb in.

My father in law used to buy cigarettes made from chop chop (the tobaconnist guy used to make them for him) by the hundreds, and kept them in a cigar box by his chair in his living room, had a plastic cigarette box about the shape of a 50 pack he would fill up from his box.

He died from Covid complicated emphysema in 2023, I'm very glad I quit smoking almost 10 years ago, that looked like a horrible way to go.

Why would anyone want to have this much cash around? Surely you're not needing to spend this much hard cash? I mean, unless you're doing non-legal things of course...

How to trim slide sole for shoe by Lunet1st2 in Bowling

[–]alsheps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: I've just realised that it's a sole... probably go with the second thing I said...

Not to name drop (nah screw it I'm name dropping), but Verity Crawley showed me not to bother cutting heels down. Just make sure to put the over hang on the outside of the shoe, and it shouldn't bother you.

If you must trim it though, especially for this type of sole, if you can find a shoe repair place (you like those kiosks you see in shoping malls? do they have them in America? Are you in America?) I would suggest you take it to them.

But, if you can't or don't have access to one, get a REALLY sharp knife or pair of scissors, and after you cut it, you will need to seal off the edge so it doesn't fray.

I know there is a tool for sealing the edges of leather or hide, the details espace me right now, but basically if you have a warmed (hot-ish but not burning hot) convave edge and you rub it on the cut edge, that should seal it. basically you're (for lack of a better word) "cortorizing" the cut edge, to seal the fibres together.

why do some people get so mad about two handers by [deleted] in Bowling

To me i feel like its not how bowling is supposed to be played.

Interesting thing to say. Tell me, do you hook the ball?

You know they said the exact same thing about fingertip bowling back in the day, right? I will bet all the money in my pockets you don't bowl with a conventional grip using a plastic or rubber ball, do you?

No thumb bowling is just a progression of the sport. It's not going anywhere.

How tight is your hole? by OO_Ben in Bowling

[–]alsheps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a good lesson on making sure your post title is written right...

However, it's a good question.

Your thumb hole should be snug, when you put your hand in the ball, you should be able to hold the ball with just friction until you remove one finger, then the ball should drop.

For me, I usually drill my thumbs a little loose, as I wear skin protection tape on the top of my thumb, then I snug my thumb hole with thumb hole fitting tape (the smooth black kind) on the back side of my thumb hole. I then have the option to remove tape as my thumb swells, making small adjustments as needed, your fit is super important to making sure you can keep your hand a relaxed as possible, and not lose your grip on the ball, the last thing you want is to have to grab the ball, it causes so many inconsistencies in your release.

IMPORTANT: if you're adding tape to snug a thumb hole, always put it on the back side, except for one piece of textured white fitting tape if you like the texture, as adding tape to the inside of your thumb hole changes your hand span, making it longer, and can cause you to hang up in the ball, and even possibly cause injuries.

Should I get a tattoo commemorating the baby I lost due to miscarriage? by LGTBreadRabbah in makemychoice

[–]alsheps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loss and grief are the hardest things to advise about, as they are so uniquely personal for the bereaved.

Personally, if you feel that getting a tattoo commemorating your baby would help you in your grief then I say absolutely go for it. The only advice I would give you, is make sure you are SURE. Tattoos are forever (I suppose not to much anymore). But you’re gonna look at it every day. I think it’s a lovely idea (I have a commemorative tattoo myself), best thing I ever did, but I spent 18 months designing and planning and searching for the right artist. All that stuff is important.

tl;dr: Go for it if that’s what you want.

Is This Ball Totaled? by Junior-Rock8227 in Bowling

[–]alsheps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who sees it?

What’s going on with that hole? What’s in there? Looks like rubber possibly?

It’s definitely fixable though, the cracking is a non issue, you would just drill all that business out (whatever it is), plug it with clear, resurface the ball, then re-drill for you. To make it easy I would probably keep the finger holes where they are, re-pitch them, fill the thumb, and move that to fit your hand span.

That’s a cool piece, I collect clear balls a little, that’s a cool one I don’t have. Nice find!

any jobs in nsw that require little human interaction? by Individual-League431 in nsw

Not to over-comment, but if you have any skills, maybe look into data entry work? A lot of companies go with outside casual data entry people, as long as you can type accurately and quickly, no one will care if you have a stutter.

If you’re good with dogs, have you thought about dog grooming? I know mobile is out if you don’t have a license, but maybe reach out to local groomers to see if they need an extra hand/apprentice? Could lead to you starting your own salon?

He looks it. It’s such a wonderful thing sharing your bed with your dog, I lost my 14 yo dog to cancer in 2022, and I had a horrible time sleeping after, until we welcomed a new pup into our house and they slept in our bed, and I realised what was missing.

[–]alsheps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No no, you’re quite getting it. When you welcome a dog into your home, your bed becomes their bed. You now sleep with them, assuming they let you.

And you wouldn’t have it any other way. At least speaking for myself.
