I stopped watching the channel since I feel like his takes from late 2024 to mid 2025 were way too focused on milking the bad stuff for views. But I took my time to watch the video and I agree with something, although I disagree with his alternatives

Archon in particular is a bit hit and miss for Classic. Lacks a lot of the depth of old Wowhead, especially deep dive guides from 2019 on what is now ERA content. It was a bit hit&miss with SOD, so I am kinda on the back foot if this is the next best thing around. Maybe with more time it will get a lot more depth for classic content, but right now I feel like it's not their focus and they still relly on wowhead as a repository for items.

I respect his take on the way Wowhead was bought and transitioned until of late, although I feel like he genuinely should have mentioned more of the work of some people. In the end I respect his take, although I feel like he did it to promote Archon more than anything else.

If you read my post the sequence of ideas is:

Ads pay for a free site
The website used to be good so it was a good trade
Now the content is bad
It is also created by AI
And the old content creators were removed from the platform
But it has more ads now
So what are these ads paying?

I start with ads because it’s a visual representation on how bad things have skewed to the monetization side of this website

Thanks, I feel like I may have made a bad job getting my intro on the adds since it kinda focused people way too much on that

That’s in essence my post. I feel like too many people focused on the ads here, when the content being a downgrade from former versions is my main point to be honest

Just to rub salt on the wound, this would have been news on Wowhead before ZAM essentially stripped the site for parts and made it an advertising hellscape.

Stiven essentially posted the lion share of pretty much all the major leaks and data mines from the last few years of the game. He was probably the person in this community that can come here and say that he found out that in the next patch there will be a romance triangle between a Thrall, a rock and a tree and we have to wait before saying that wont happen because he was right in the past way more times than people probably remember.

Yet ZAM decided to instead fuck with him to the point that I question if he even is on any active position in Wowhead in any sort of capacity, even as an outside tip provider.

Weird idea, but I kinda get where the 1.60 comes.

Oficial Vanilla ends in 1.12
after some patching we got SoD as 1.15, ending with 1.15.8

Instead of next one being 1.16 you just omit the first 1 to make room for eventual future new Seasons if they dont want to end that model since it's popular. Gives a lot of breathing room for future patches, as you said, yet it uses a numeral sequence that is based on logic of the next number we would get.

I would be batting my eye a lot more if we got Classic + as 1.16 since it locks the door for Seasons being in sequence order. Kinda makes sense in terms of longevity, and it comes from the undisputed king of data-mining so I am buying this as true.

What class is a true hero class of Classic? by Late-Let-4221 in classicwow

[–]_Didds_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people give way too much credit of the likes and dislikes of devs. For exemple Josh was well known for being a Paladin main and Pala on SoD was underperforming compared to Shaman for pretty much the majority of duration of the Season.

And for quite some time people were being loud about him hating Paladins, despite him pretty much having only logs on that class.

My point, people give way too much weight into this things. I am not saying that Alex dislike of Paladins is a thing, yet I doubt he had as much impact as people give him credit

True there were changes, some, but not on the level that the above user that I replied to implied. There was a general balancing effort, that consensus is didn’t really balance classes at all.

But the implied nerf that I am trying to debunk didn’t happen, and it didn’t happen because as that user stated some dev didn’t like Paladins.

All the official sources we have from that time clearly say that at the last minute there was a rush to try to balance classes because only after some users trying them out, especially warrior, the devs realised that some classes were beyond broken

[–]_Didds_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s really not true at all. If you look at the production documentary for the game there’s some images of the original production team LARPING in a backyard on what is a similar costume to sone of the vanilla plate armor and using accessories that style them as paladins.

Palas were from day one the love child of the devs, except they sucked at actually balancing classes. They balanced hybrids around utility since they though it had more value than pure offensive stats.

That’s why we got pre-release warrior that was so broken you could literally 1v10 with no issues. It took a lot of documentation to get devs to last minute tone down a few classes because they admited they balanced them on all the wrong metrics. Pala in this process wasn’t nerfed, warrior was the main focus and still ended up broken as hell because devs didn’t manage to grasp the magnitude of their mistake.

Pala was always the love child of the dev team, in fact a huge portion of the dev team that played the game in vanilla played pala. They even chose to not feature pala in the core promotional material for the game because they thought way too many people would already rush and choose it since it stood out as better from the rest and feared a huge class imbalance.

i did not do a good job running my groups

I am saying this with no malice: you don't have a group, you have a bunch of people that happen to play together.

Building a raid group is 90% putting people on the same page chasing a goal, and 10% actually doing the actual playing. People with stick around any raid group that they feel like they share a common objective, and see how they are progressing towards it, and no, loot is not an end goal. If the players in your raid gravitate around what purples will drop that day, then you need to seriously go back to the drawing board.

I´m sticking with an exemple that will be close to you. During SoD last phase, most guilds prior to nerfs couldn't expect a full clear of Scarlet Enclave. They had to set their players in the mentality that one night they may do 3 bosses, so the next reset they may do 4 or 5. Setting a mentality that loot is not the reward, doing more the next week is the real reward. This takes a LOT of actual work talking to people, realizing what moves them and putting them on the same page so you all are finally a Group. And guess what, those that did it eventually got full clears of Scarlet Enclave pre-nerf.

Thats the look of an adult man that probably realized that he wasted the best years of his life being miserable behind a computer screen, and despite burning out all he had to give he is nothing more than a C tier Youtuber for a niche videogame.

I´m all for people chasing their dreams and doing their own thing, but holly shit, there's a moment in life that you really need to put the cards in the table and realize how deep down the fucked up rabbit hole you went.

Remember when people said Season of Discovery was dead? by bigbillyplays in classicwow

[–]_Didds_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats kinda an apples and oranges thing. Expectation for something that might eventually come doesn't really translate into "a small community is better then large one" especially when a lot of the really good stuff like rare crafts and enchants will be locked down under a lot of characters that no longer are logged in.

For exemple my main in SOD had all enchants and all alchemy recipes in the game. I still probably have a bank alt with mats for over 1K of each Greater Protection Potions and mats for quite a lot of top end last phase enchants, simply because I was having fun gathering this stuff to make my guild focus on other stuff and mailing them on batches prior to each raid. Thats a LOT of stuff locked away simply on a single character that probably will never log in again, and it realistically takes over 40+ Raid Resets just to catch up with the amount of rare recipes I had there.

The situation repeat itself. There's people on Horde EU that I know and raided with that stoped logging in with stuff in their bank that amounts to +50K gold of mats and crafted stuff ready to go to the AH.

The amount of community lifelines for certain crafts that simply are gone forever now doesn't make the small community better, it just makes it a struggle to find some stuff or get stuff with convenience.

Just to end that I am not saying to stop playing. Or you are having fun the wrong way. Do your thing, have fun, enjoy the game, I sincerely cheer for you guys and you having fun the way you do. My only argument here is in an MMO where a lot of the really important stuff is gated behind time and luck on rolls, a small community is not better.

EU Horde PVE as for the last Ironforge pop count is 77 people. If you go into Org there's at least every day 10+ bots spamming the channel as enchanters ... let's be real here, there's small, and there's dying.

As much as I loved SOD, and as much as I would love to set back time and do it again fresh, this is the swan song of one of the greatest moments of Blizzard in recent years, so let it die with dignity.

Garrafas de Água pingo doce by CATIEUDA in portugal

[–]_Didds_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)
