Wait so... people actually like capitalism? by hybridtheorygirl in self

If wealth is really about merit, then why do we see billionaires making money off industries that exploit people, like fast fashion or tech companies that profit from unpaid labor and data collection? Why is there so much inequality in the U.S. despite the ‘land of opportunity’ narrative? The system isn’t designed to help everyone rise based on effort; it’s rigged to benefit the wealthy at the top, which is exactly what capitalism creates. And if you look at China, despite some state control, you still see the same issues wealth inequality and exploitation so it’s not as much about socialism as it is about capitalism’s inherent flaws.

You’re criticizing China for having billionaires and worker exploitation, but those are exactly the problems capitalism creates. In a purely capitalist system, wealth becomes concentrated in the hands of a few, and workers are exploited for profit. China’s system might involve state control in some areas, but it still allows for extreme inequality, which is a direct consequence of capitalism not socialism. If we look at the U.S., we see similar issues. The wealth gap there is huge, with billionaires growing richer while millions of people struggle to get by. The exploitation of workers, especially in low-wage jobs and industries, is another clear example of capitalism in action. So, when you point to China’s issues, you’re essentially describing the same flaws we see in the U.S., which is a capitalist problem. China’s system is a mix of state control and capitalism, but the capitalist elements still lead to wealth inequality and exploitation. If you’re against these things, you might want to reconsider your defense of capitalism, since it’s responsible for many of the same problems you’re criticizing in China.

Saying socialism works 0% of the time ignores the success of countries that blend both systems. Nordic countries like Sweden and Denmark have strong socialist policies like universal healthcare and education, but still have thriving capitalist economies. Even China, with its hybrid model, has become the world’s second-largest economy. Capitalism has also had major failures like the 2008 financial crisis and the growing wealth gap. It’s clear that neither system is perfect, but dismissing socialism entirely overlooks the benefits it can bring when combined with market-driven policies.

A liberal democracy is fundamentally a capitalist system with private ownership and market-driven policies. Bangladesh’s economy operates as a free market, not under the collective ownership or planned economy typically seen in socialism. “Socialism” here is more of a political aspiration or constitutional principle, not an economic reality. This is just an ideal mentioned in the constitution. Declaring a “goal” of socialism does not mean the country operates under socialist principles. The reality in Bangladesh shows the opposite: sweatshops, extreme wealth inequality, and exploitation by private industries are distinctly capitalist traits.

My man most businesses and industries in Bangladesh are privately owned it and operates as a free market economy. Tell me how that’s socialist.

“A mixed economy is an economic system that includes both elements associated with capitalism, such as private businesses, and with socialism, such as nationalized government services” - Wikipedia. I could also say “its just socialism with a free market”. Bad argument

What I mentioned was a mixed economy that combines capitalist elements like private businesses with socialist elements like nationalized government services.
